Holy crap, was this set just close and hype. Game 5 showed how heavy their thought processes were, whether or not to throw something out or use a defensive option in a game of spacing and patience.
im probably one of the few people chillin in late 2019 watching this vd, but Leo smash 4 cloud is something that just brings back so many memories tbh. Just had a different vibe to it
Top 10 comments not complaining about Bayo? Clean af. Good shit people. lol This set was INDEED hype. Heard so much bitching about Dabuz taking a game from Leo with Bayo and I watch and see the only reason why is because Leo took a really big risk or misinputted a Finishing Touch.
Notice how MKLeo almost exclusively goes for grabs when fighting Bayo. You don't see fair, you don't see jab, you don't see nair. Leo moves around into shield and waits for the Bayo to do something unsafe. And he's patient. And he wins this terrible MU because he outplays you and grabs you 40 times in a row. You see Salem and Dabuz sitting in shield, respecting the sword swing that's never going to come - and then they get grabbed. It's curious because even the best Bayos in the world seem to be completely unable to adapt to Leo's approach, even though it's so simple. EDIT: Referring to the Marth - Bayo matchup specifically. Cloud's approach - and Leo's approach with Cloud - is somewhat different.
He also makes the grab approach even stronger by often punishing true lag/situations that can't be witch timed with melee attacks to add some balance. Even for characters with poor grab follow-ups, it works so well
Pizza Shark watch him vs Salem. Lots more hitboxes and aggressive spacing with his marth. His playstyle vs mistake, dabuz, and Salem is different. He doesn't just play the match up, he plays against each player uniquely. He's just amazing
Leo's play against Salem isn't necessarily more aggressive, it's simply more polarizing. Salem's response to Leo's "strategy" has been the (often ineffective) decision to jump all over the place. On Smashville/FD, Leo's neutral wins will still be coming about 80%(!) from grabs. On Battlefield and DL, grab opportunities are more limited because of Salem's unbridled love for platform camping, so trivially, his grab rate is reduced to 50% - but that's still an absurd value for Marth, the character whose playstyle is farthest removed from grappling in this game. For comparison, Leo's grab rate against Dabuz' Bayo (neutral game) for this set was either 67% or 83%, depending on how you would define a couple situations as either neutral or advantage. Of course Leo is playing the player matchup as well, but although Salem occasionally inspires a few more hitboxes from him, Leo's approach to the matchup is clearly the same grab-heavy style. The values I provide are anecdotal and taken from a few of Leo's more recent sets with Salem. They are not intended to reflect an exhaustive or comprehensive summary of Leo's interactions with Salem in the Marth/Bayo MU.
Pizza Shark yeah. I realize mkleo plays really calculated. Most of the time, mkleo only loses to players who are also very calculated and patient. Genesis 5 top 8 being filled with aggro, unsafe bayo mains was a perfect feast for mkleo.
Can we talk about how Leo narrowly avoided death and immediately retaliated with a brutal Dair of his own at the end? That shit legit made me jump. GO LEO :D!
I think Dabuz messed up with that down air that got him spiked. I'm pretty sure he could have just stood on the edge of the stage and done a short hop down air to spike Leo without going offstage. I was really rooting for Dabuz this time, and he almost had it.
The problem is that Rosa's dair is pretty slow, and Dabuz doesn't have the best reaction time. If Leo up b'd early and Dabuz failed to react while commiting to the dair, Leo makes it back. Alternatively, if he guessed the timing, he'd get the hit about 70% of the time (Rosa's dair has absurd hitbox activity), but Dabuz incorrectly estimated that he could cover all spacings and timings with the dair he chose. To be fair, he could have with proper execution. Dabuz miscalculated, and Leo's recovery was as perfect as it could have been. In the end, Dabuz got the option correct, but his timing was marginally off. Itchy trigger finger.
Yes, he mistimed it, as I said. But Dabuz' lack of confidence in his reactions certainly played a role in his choice of edgeguard. Refer to my previous comment.
pretty weird I don't see hate comments about bayonetta here I don't see people saying that dabuz is getting carried by bayonetta in is matched here It's so funny how people just jumped onto bayonetta mains' throats a few years ago, the hate was so real for literally nothing
@@blueheart9873 why responding to a comment a year ago and why am I responding to a comment responding to a comment a year ago a minute after the comment
At the end, you can see Cloud’s up b clipping through the stage before snapping onto the ledge. It may have been possible that if Dabuz down aired over that part of the stage instead of past the ledge, it might have hit.
I like how on almost every comment section for smash, people make fun of for glory players when they themselves are probably at that level lol. All of you guys do tourneys? Doubt it.
