Steve Hackett is the sweetest guitar hero in the world. I wrote him one Christmas because I was feeling sad and I gushed like a schoolkid. He wrote back an hour later to say, "Thanks so much, K--." We wrote back and forth and got onto the subject of horror stories. I told him I am a horror-SciFi novelist. The next day, he bought one of my horror novels and wrote to tell me about it. Who other world-famous musician would do that for just a fan?

Hackett goes quite frankly on my nerves, there is no doubt he was shortchanged in Genesis mainly from an instrumental point of view, once Gabriel left there was no one around telling Tony to curb his enthusiasm and that keyboards Wall of sound was at times too much. From a songwriting point of view, however, there were plainly better songwriters than him. He has over 20 solo albums under his belt, he should have realised that, considering that these days he has to tour Genesis music if he wants to make a living. The other members, for the most part, have left the bad blood behind them, see Banks and Gabriel, Steve, to this day, in his soft-spoken, passive-agressive way he is still dredging up and harping on stuff. It's harsh I know but I think he should shut up and be thankful he was on that handful of albums, that's way he is still relevant, considering how inconsequential his albums are and by the way I have most of them, because this is the thing, he is a terrific player, I want to like what he does but he's simply not a gifted writer.

It's nice to see Bryan Josh contributing to this documentary. I have a lot of Mostly Autumn's albums and have seen them live many times, but not for a few years now. It's time I did it again ! They are VERY good (nearly as good as Genesis 🤣)and had the pleasure of doing the last ever Classic Rock Society concert (and, yes I was there !).

How odd! at 11.09 he's talking about a keyboard sequencer in Follow You Follow Me. That's actually Mike's riff on guitar. Tony's playing chords over it. What is this chap talking about? Where on Earth is there a sequencer in there? Can someone please put me right if I'm wrong. Thank you.

i feel for Ray Wilson whilst Calling All Stations was labelled by some as un Genesis - when so much material from Duke onwards is Phil + band . i couldn’t see or hear anything particularly un Genesis with the stripped-down part of a Poland show in 1999 when they’re playing the opening of Suppers Ready when compared to Phil belting out one of his lead hit single ballads post 1983. The former sounded more Pete era than Phil singing Against All Odds or Me & Sarah Jane etc etc . i first heard them as a 13 yr old when getting a 2nd hand Foxtrot in feb 1978 so that’s my comment on these wonderful fellows .🐢👍ps & if your version of Genesis is going to play in southern England please tell & we’ll come along ❤️

@@TheStreamHi. I am Trevor Garrard. I was the singer in a genesis tribute band and in some of the above film it is my band Gitc that are playing. We were contracted for a performance in Stratford upon Avon as part of a History of Genesis documentary around 2006 or 2007 We waived our rights to the audio and video at that time. I am contacting you to find out if you have the complete audio and video on file and if so... Is it possible to have access to at least the whole audio performance. It would only be for our own personal use and for our ego haha.

I like that he described turn it on again however he described it wrong. He said the guitar would just be strumming to be and the keyboard would be playing the phrase. It's a two guitar part and yes the keyboard mirrors the guitar. However when they play it live there is no bass guitar it's bass pedal. Mike Rutherford plays the wrif while Darryl strums the b on gtr. He then attributes the credit to Tony Banks when everybody knows this is a Rutherford song for the most part. The extra beat was not there to be clever. Rutherford thought he was writing in 4/4 when he actually was writing in 13/8

Genesis ended when Steve left, Phil agreed that they should have changed their name without a Guitarist. I've followed Steve's career right up until present and he's continued progressing unlike his former bandmates who never managed to write anything like they used to with Steve.

@@stephencox6012 Wrong, they were not Genesis after 1977 and actually had hit singles!,They made lots of money but in artistic terms it's called regression. As we know they fizzled out and are no more. Steve's band however are still progressing with new Music 🎶 and the live shows still play all the Music from the classic Genesis! Many fans are calling Steve's band Genesis and rightly so as he's always honoured the Music as it was originally conceived.
