We hope you enjoy our reproducing of the Genesis 1978 Mirrors tour for the album And Then There Were Three. We used both fan filmed amateur footage from all over the world (mainly of very good to excellent quality! and old professionally shot footage from Japan, France, & Knebworth to recreate a typical 1978 Mirrors/And Then There Were Three tour. Virtually no stills or animation is used. This concert is practically all video footage. Lots of great shots, concert runs excellent and we are confident you will enjoy this one. I find a warm "movie" picture setting for your TV is best for optimal viewing. Audio is A+ Soundboard from Chicago, October 13, 1978.

WOW, awesome video!!! I saw this tour three times and it's one of the best concerts seen. Those mirrors were incredible and the band sounded great. Thank you for all the work that you put into this, I'm sure many will enjoy it. Was at the famous Uptown show in Chicago when they played Dance with the Moonlit Knight. Would like to see the Musicalbox try and duplicate this show!

thank you so much for this. I've been telling friends about the Mirrors show and no one believes me. Now they will.

This audio sounds like 10/13/78 -Chicago. All the 1978 In the Cage are great, but this version might be the best In the cage ever!

This was 1978. Last concert tour in which Phil sang very well without scratching his throat. Plus on the instrumental section of Cage he was on congas.

I am trying to find video from one of the tours I was at. In Detroit (Cobo) All three nights. During that tour the Mirrors were used and they also used green lasers. During in the cage, Phil actually was encaged by laser bars floor to ceiling. But most memorable was Los Endos when the mirrors went into overdrive and the lasers bounced off the mirrors all over the arena. I heard an interview years later with Phil saying they stopped using the lasers that way because of the potential danger. Has anyone seen video of this?

Does anyone know what brand of drums Chester is playing here? His drums always sounded amazing.

I think he played Pearl drums 1977-78.

Any person with good ears can hear how this music gives the roots of thrash and even black metal. Just change the singing style and add some dabel bass and there you have it :)

The best version of In the Cage and Phil nails it..I love Gabriel but Phil's better as the front man for Genesis.

This concert WAS NOT in 1978. I saw this interim plan for mobile lights in Houston in early 1976. The mirrors were replaced in mid-'76 for "Wind and Wuthering" with 747 landing lights, then in 1984 with state-of-the-art "Varilites," mobile lighting technology developed with Genesis money through the efforts of "ShowCo" (Dallas, TX)...the people who had put the late '75- early '76 "mirror show" together. Genesis may have released this material in '78, but it recorded earlier.

In 1980, Showco engineer Jim Bornhorst[3][4] discovered that twisting dichroic filters alters the frequencies of light filtered, resulting in an apparent color change. The company exploited this discovery by constructing a fixture equipped with two motors to move the light.[5] An initial prototype of a fully automated lighting system, featuring a General Electric Marc 350 projector, was built in twelve weeks.[6] Showco representatives demonstrated the prototype-known today as the VL-Zero-to members of the British band Genesis, having programmed it to enact two simple cues. Genesis, already a regular Showco client, immediately invested $1 million in the new technology, although a working model, later known as the VL1, would not be available until the band embarked on its Abacab tour. Showco used the capital to develop the control console, power distribution, and digital data transmission equipment required to implement the sound system

You are incorrect. I saw the ATTWT tour twice, both in Chicago, at Chicago Stadium (since replaced by United Center). Both shows were in '78 and both had the mirrors.

Footage is definitely 1978. Phil has no beard, and they didn't play In the cage in 1976 or 1977. Also Daryl Stuermer is on guitar here. 100% - this is 10/13/78 - Chicago audio with random 1978 footage.

Vari*lites were used on the Abacab tour of 1981, well before 1984.

Well I saw them in Paris (Second's out takes)... But I really don't like the miss of Steve Hackett...Phil sang very well ... But the guitar is really poor !
@guyaustin309

Although Hackett really helped define the Genesis sound with those lovely extended high notes and the brilliant solos on Firth of Fifth etc this is the one song where Daryl S changed the feel for the better and added a manic intensity. Compare the studio version from the Lamb which lacks that spiralling guitar in the final minute or so. (DS in the line-up proves this was 78, not earlier as some have suggested).

@@guyaustin309 yeah, that last minute of shredding really fits the song for some reason. I feel that Hacketts aproach to this song was a bit too defensive, Daryl's fast, agressive playing fits In The Cage really well!
