nonono that is exactly the wrong thing to focus on, by this mindset you are adding to the problem, you should be focusing on the part "and not enough love to go around" and by your love to your fellow man, you will solve all problems.
@@jokerguycz yeah and you are one of those guys, who go to a war with a knife... People like you are the fn problem!!! If someone is causing problems, tell em! But I guess that could offend or hurt feelings... -.-
if anything the world is infinitely dumber (smart phones make stupid people) and the current crop of baddies are a joke compared to the past, yet we act like and buy into it being the worst of times. Humanity is so fucking stupid.
I will never forget when I saw this video in 1986, but I never imagined that in april 2024 we would live in a Land of Confusion, this masterpiece came true..
Finding myself listening to this song again these days. Scary how accurate the lyrics are even so many years later and especially during the last days!
"There's too many men, too many people making too many problems, and not much love to go round..." So very right!!! Thirty-six years on...sadly the lyrics still make sense.
just heard it on radio after years no listening to it , up loud i was pretty impressed by the drum programming and oomf the sounds have . hope it was phil collins himself doing the drum programming , would be cool , the kick drum is very cool
It's also a massive problem when people think they know how to make it right but it just creates more issues when they try to force others to comply. Current culture wars come to mind.
Phil Collins' generation is still alive but as long as there's bad people it'll never be put right I think that every generation has at one time or another say that line
Heard this for first time since I was a kid in about 1990, and THAT line was the one that really stood out to me too. But at least there was hope back then - there's none right now, and aww man do we need a 'hero' to come along...
You and me both. Same age, and I was really disturbed by this video when I was a kid. I always thought maybe when I grew up, it wouldn't be so scary. Now I can laugh about it, but it's still scary.
I'd argue that this era of Genesis was part of the decline of the group. This is a pop song by Phil Collins and band. Although a big fan of Genesis including 4 post-Gabriel albums, I walked out of the Invisible Touch tour gig at Wembley when it dawned on me how dire the music was becoming - not all of it, but most tracks. The subsequent album was worse. More worthless than timeless, IMO.
One of the most iconic music videos of all time, right up there with Smooth Criminal and Thriller and spitting image was one of the best things on tv back then.
Such excellent, iconic 80's imagery. Miss those times so much it hurts. Nothing like the 1980's. ......and Prince eating his own tongue like a hotdog is pure art.
Yep, I remember the first time I watched this video I was recovering from a nose surgery, it was so disturbing that I actually thought it had been some kind of hallucination produced by the anesthesia. I love this song, I love Phil Collins' voice but I truly hate this video.
I‘m so thankful that I grow up in the 80‘s with this powerful music! At this time i thought, music like this is normal and it will go on like this forever. Now i know, that this were special times with very special, everlasting music.
As a kid in the 80’s, the design of the puppets always scared me. Today, I absolutely friggin love this song, the arrangement is fantastic as well as the lyrics. Truly love Phil Collins.
Teenager here, funny how this song is so true today I also have no clue how todays kids don’t like this music and judge my music taste for liking this stuff, it’s bloody awesome and so much better than most of the mainstream trash today.
Is it? I don't see how. Seems to me more about like, the media and politicians are lying to the people, saying things are better when they're not; and that it's time for the people to rise up and force change to happen. That the world won't improve until we make it better. I suppose that's kinda close to what you described.
It's actually the opposite, which makes it more depressing. They make it very clear that this is meant to be the turning point. That their "generation will make it right" and that they aren't making empty promises. 35 years later and we see now they instead got absorbed by the machine and let things get worse. In retrospect its' a song about stasis, how nothing changes. But at the time, I don't think that was the intention.
@@Crawver No, I'm prety sure this was meant to be timeless not just for Generation X. If that generation fails, its up to the next one, if that generation fails, so forth and so forth. Names changes, identity changes, actors change...but the aspects of ego, greed and what i like to call "sport mentality" is pretty much constant and can take any form. You're not gonna turn this entire rock around, but its still important to strive. We can't knock of every dictator, strongman and autocrat of the planet(exceptions are called for with all the good and bad that follows). But if we get enough people to stop putting "Supermen" on pedestals, then at the very least we won't make it worse. So...nothing changes?...not true...it could be worse.
Lyrics: I must've dreamed a thousand dreams Been haunted by a million screams But I can hear the marching feet They're moving into the street Now did you read the news today? They say the danger's gone away But I can see the fire's still alight Burning into the night There's too many men Too many people Making too many problems And not much love to go 'round Can't you see this is a land of confusion? Ooh this is the world we live in (Oh-oh-oh) And these are the hands we're given (Oh-oh-oh) Use them and let's start trying (Oh-oh-oh) To make it a place worth living in Ooh Superman, where are you now? When everything's gone wrong somehow The men of steel, men of power Are losing control by the hour This is the time, this is the place So we look for the future But there's not much love to go 'round Tell me why, this is a land of confusion This is the world we live in (Oh-oh-oh) And these are the hands we're given (Oh-oh-oh) Use them and let's start trying (Oh-oh-oh) To make it a place worth living in I remember long ago Ooh, when the sun was shining Yes and the stars were bright All through the night And the sound of your laughter As I held you tight So long ago I won't be coming home tonight My generation will put it right We're not just making promises That we know, we'll never keep Too many men There's too many people Making too many problems And not much love to go 'round Can't you see this is a land of confusion? Now this is the world we live in (Oh-oh-oh) And these are the hands we're given (Oh-oh-oh) Use them and let's start trying (Oh-oh-oh) To make it a place worth fighting for This is the world we live in (Oh-oh-oh) And these are the names we're given (Oh-oh-oh) Stand up and let's start showing (Oh-oh-oh) Just where our lives are going to
The story I heard was that the spitting image lot had to make a new puppet out of phil Collins because the old puppet didn't have eyes, because the old phil puppet was always crying into his arms and was "so sad". Then they thought, well we already have the old puppet might as well have him pop up in the background and have him do a bit of drumming where the audience can't notice that the puppet don't have eyes.
I liked the part where the guy is putting ketcup on his tongue and Reagan gets hit on the head by Nancy. Today's politicians are more dangerous than the 80's ones were.
@@borinakoune1803 I like that scene as well. I think the puppet was the artist "Prince". I never got if that scene had any deeper meaning, "we are eating our own words" Todays politicians are not more dangerous than the 80's ones were, their evils are just more out in the open and the peoples outrage is nonexistant. We have 24-7 news which makes secrets impossible, but makes the people in a constant state of blasèd jadedness. Believe you me the evils of most politicians in the 80's is still 30-35 years later the main cause of our troubles.
@@borinakoune1803 i wouldn't consider them more dangerous, it's that everyone as a whole moved more to the right Today's democrats are yesterdays Republicans
I totally agree with you, I'm glad I'm not the only one that can see that, I wish more people would speak out, it's like a conspiracy of silence nowadays, nobody wants to tell it like it is, this society we live in is an even bigger confused and directionless mess now than it was in the 1980's when this was in the charts, at least back then we still had some semblance of a plot, now it's like the plot has been thrown in the bin. The only thing that is saving society from going under and into total anarchy today is the technology, mobiles, internet etc, which even the poorest can afford, unlike decades ago when such technology was something you had to be a Yuppie or very wealthy in some other way to afford, having access to this greater technology is helping us to cope with all the even bigger complications we face nowadays, although I suspect that this technology is a double edged sword and can work just as much against us as for us.
John, the technology is the reason why the powerful ones are pulling our strings and making us deaf and blind. Anarchy is the only way to save human kind.

Come on, the puppetry in this is goddamn outstanding. So many different puppets, so geniusly designed, and decently animated. The number of those puppets I think is what amazes me the most. These aren't drawings, you can't easily come up with them on the spot according to necessity, you gotta draw them, build them, perform, and some of them are only on screen for fractions of a second.
To be fair, only two of these puppets had to be made for this video specifically (two of the band members), the rest was taken from the Spitting Image show
The visuals aren't too disturbing to me. For those who aren't aware, the video was made by the producers of a British satirical show called Spitting Image - which used latex puppets to mock politicians and celebrities of the time. It was a running joke that Reagan was so 'out of it' that he could hit the 'nuke' button by mistake at any time.
Unfortunally, their times were better than ours. This legends lived in a much promissing times....Today we are lost in our endless political problems.... people are divided alot
Their times borrowed happines from ours. We gotta tell our kids their grandparents burned the planet so they would have better quarterly reports anc cheap petrol....
37 years and almost nothing changed in this regard. Including the hopes of the current generation that they will do it right, but they won't. I hate being experienced and bitter.
Then again it's so easy to sit back, fault pick, offer no solutions just sing about problems. Meanwhile raking in cash by the million, sitting in their Ivory Tower(s), offering nothing but cynicism.
Temazo de 1986, como siempre phill con su voz espectacular y junto a genesis hicieron esta melodia que a mi juicio es una de las mejores de la decada de los 80s.

I just saw that Genesis retired, yesterday (26/03/22) Genesis played their last show in London. I love Genesis and this song so much!! We're in a land of confusion!! Thank you Genesis for all.
Pan Tutaj The puppets are taken from the old British TV show "Spitting Image". It was a very controversial political satire show, which makes it all the more fitting for the song.
Grow up you fucking pansy. Women and Children were killed by machete's in Africa in living memory and this clip scares you?. How about a clip that shows a woman being stoned to death because she dared to have an opinion and is murdered in the name of Religion?...Guess you couldn't cope with that either. I was going to watch this clip, but read your pasty remark and it made so so sick, decided it wasn't worth the effort.
Sorry but no, it is not the ´land of insanity´. The problem is that people are sane. They are just idiots. Sane idiots. So when before you had ´land of confusion´, now you have land of idiocy, stupidity, intolerance and ignorance. In a word, morons! And this applies to both sides of the political spectrum, mind you. I´m not biased to any side, I´m an equal opportunity ´retard´ caller.
@Octavian I think it went downhill after the Kennedy and Martin Luther King assassinations. What this planet needs is a good old fashion planetary disaster, that wipes out 80% of the population. That way the survivors can start fresh, free of all the bad blood, and with a new sense of unity. I hope Apophis hits. Fuck this shit!
