The Lincoln is faster than listed here, went to the track and ran 13.4@106 (older Camaro's and Mustang's did not like seeing my tailights), I didn't like how the side trim was off kilter in the on on this video, I've never seen that before. I love the car, if you can keep your foot out of the twin turbos you get good mpg as well.

I’d say Lincoln priced the Continentals just right for the segment and the amount you get from either engine and the optional AWD along with the tech and infotainment. It’s priced right there at the sweet spot and gives the competition a run for their money. You can’t beat real wood grain and a million way adjustable seats.

They turned things around in 2009 with the Genesis sedan then the Equus (G90) in 2011 which also had a really quiet interior, power reclining rear seat, rear controls, a fridge, a V8 engine, etc. when the competition would charge 2-3x as much for those things. Hopefully they can keep the momentum going even when electric cars become more common.

Lincoln is by far the winner for me! This is the car that has convinced me the American market has turned around at long last. I actually like the fact that the Continental has subdued styling. It looks classy and not overbearing. It epitomizes the "stealth wealth" philosophy. I desperately wish for the luxury market to not surrender to the German and Japanese monoliths.

Nice comparison review, RoadShow! I recently got the chance to review the Genesis G90, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much it offered (as STANDARD equipment). Also, the cabin was remarkably comfortable, and offered more than enough space for my 5'11" height (in both the front and rear). Unfortunately, I haven't been able to review the Volvo S90, nor have I been able to get my hands on the new Lincoln Continental... But, once I do, I will happily report back on my findings. Thanks again for this entertaining comparison review between 3 unexpectedly amazing premium luxury sedans. From one car reviewer to another, keep up the great work! 👍🏽

I am 6'6''. I sat in the G90, Continental, and S90 at my auto show last spring. The only one I could get comfortable in was the G90. I could even sit behind my driving position in the back! The G90 is the way to go if you are freakishly tall.

I'm liking all 3 cars, but the Genesis tested here was the base model. The V8 model has reclining rear seat and extra controls which the other 2 don't even have as an option, plus over 400hp, like its had since around 2011. I would have liked to know how the sound systems compare since the G90 has some of the best sound around but I've not tested the other two. Overall, it's nice to have competition and great features at a much lower price than BMW/Audi/Merc which have been charging a lot more for much less.
@benjaminsmith2287
@benjaminsmith2287 4 года назад
The Volvo has a superb sound system. Not sure of the Lincoln. I don't see the point in comparing the Volvo s90 to the Genesis G90. The G90 is in the Mercedes S class category, the Volvo is in the Mercedes E class category. G90 is in a higher class category despite its cost.

The volvo 4-cylinders have traditionally been pretty reliable, but where a 4 cylinder truly shines is in the fuel economy. The lincoln and genesis both have 5.4 second 0-60 times, and the volvo has a 5.7 second 0-60. However the genesis and lincoln are 18 mpg city/25 mpg highway compared to volvo's 22mpg city and 31mpg highway. So you are sacrificing a 0.3 second difference in acceleration and you get huge fuel economy benefits.
@TontoGoldstein81
@TontoGoldstein81 6 лет назад
Test drove all three including the CT6 with a friend who was in the same market. I chose the Lincoln because I really like the styling and comfort. My only gripe so far is the fuel economy- I wish it had an 8 or 10 speed transmission, but after a year of ownership, I've come increasingly to appreciate it and the craftsmanship that went into it. The Continental continues to get attention everywhere I go, perhaps necause it's rarely seen in Southern California, but I've been asked about it more than any other car I've owned (though to be honest, this is the most extravagant vehicle I've owned). My friend chose the Volvo mainly because of the looks, and sadly, his ownership experience has been the total opposite. He admits that he actually prefers driving his old Avalon because it's more comfortable. And when test driving the Volvo that was my biggest gripe about. It just didn't feel "luxurious." It felt rather cheap for a 70K car. For example, a BMW feels sporty, but a good quality sporty. The Continental feels absolutely comfortable. The Volvo (along with the G90) falls somewhere in between, but not the good kind, if that makes any sense. It's more "harsh" than sporty and more "bouncy" than comfortable.

In the S90, the air suspension is only on the rear and its only for leveling. It does absolutely nothing about ride quality. The 2018 rides wayyyyy better than the 2017’ for the simple fact that they stretched the wheelbase a few inches.

@@lucashuang10 I agree with that. I said that in a comment myself. The G90 is in a different category to the s90. But the fit and finish of Volvos is excellent.

The s90 is a midsize sedan, competes with 5 series, e class etc.

The surprise winner? Was there any doubt that the G90 wouldn't have won this comparison?? Why is the G90 even compared to a Volvo?

Thank you for being so honest with the shortcomings of the Volvo. I had the same thoughts about the flinty ride, loud and rough engine, etc. I don’t understand why other car reviewers praise the new Volvo’s so highly.

Because they are excellent cars. Get the right tires, don't gun the motor and drive them the way people would drive them, and take a long trip in one. They are extremely solid and relaxing to drive. Just get 18 or 19 inch wheels, don't over inflate them, and the car is smooth and fluid over all but the worst bumps. And I find the interior stylish, but that's subjective.

The G90 is in a different category, a higher one. Volvo will be closest to German in feel. But it competes with the G80 more than G90. I'm not sure about Lincoln. The issue with the Volvo is it has a 4 cylinder engine and some don't want a 4 cylinder car in its class/price point. It is a rather nice car, however and I think the best looking of these three. About the Volvo ride, take 2 pounds of air out of the tires. 19 inch is the best size. The 2018 s90 improved the rear legroom. With the G90, the glossy wood ages it. But this review was done in 2017. I agree that the G90 is the winner, but it is also in a higher category. Watch Genesis for style because the 2021 G80 is one of the most impressive looking sedans I've seen.

All of these are good cars. But i will say. The volvo is down on power and Hyundai couldve done better with those headlamps and the Lincoln is well..... not really any problems there. One thing i think they all should look at is giving them a bit more horse power, but thats just me.

You said you put the S90 in sport mode and found it bumpy in town (believable) and you're also on the 20" wheels and the "wrong" tires. You can't change the tires, but at least put the car in comfort mode and tell us how it drives then.

Volvos are very sensitive to tire pressure. Just take 2 pounds out of it and put it in comfort mode. It'll then feel kind of firm but not "nervous."

The Genesis is WELL known to break down right after its warranty runs out (after 100,000miles). They must have missed that the Lincoln push-buttom transmission has two options of drive, D and S (for sport). If you choose S, it handles and accelerates more like a spoort car and the transmission. The Lincolns also have a huge sunroof. If I had it all to do over however, I'd just get a really nice Honda Accord. I know people who have 450000 miles on their Accords and they're still going strong. Reliability wasn't mentioned much and it is, to me, very important. Volvo is a family car. The genesis isn't reliable if you go online and read customer accounts. The Lincoln wins because its the only 'real' luxury car in this lineup. Nowadays its better to start with reliability.
