Bereshit - “In The Beginning”
Genesis 1:1-6:8
This is the first parsha of the new Torah portion cycle, covering the first few chapters of Genesis and introducing us to the wonder of God’s creation. The portion begins with the epic creation of the heavens and the earth: darkness and light, the division of the waters, the formation of land, the fixing of the lights of the heavens (the sun, moon and stars), the living creatures and finally man in the first six days of creation, the seventh day then set apart as a time of rest from work, the first Shabbat.
Having breathed his Holy Breath into the man, filling his creation with a ‘living soul’, God then places man as the custodian of creation in the Garden of Eden. Shortly afterwards God forms woman as a helper and partner to man, using one of the man’s ribs. In the Garden, the man and woman, Adam and Eve, are told that all fruit-bearing trees are to be food for them, except one: The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. This fruit of this tree was strictly forbidden as it would bring spiritual death upon them, but the evil serpent convinces Eve to eat fruit from this tree, deceiving her by deliberately confusing the ideas of physical and spiritual death. Eve promptly offers it to Adam, bringing the curse of sin and death upon the garden. God pronounces the curses, the consequences of their sin, and banishes them from the Garden, lest they eat of the Tree of Life and thus live forever in a state of corruption.
Adam and Eve produce two children, Cain and Abel, one of whom kills the other in a fit of jealousy, consequently becoming a wanderer of the earth. With Abel killed and Cain wandering, Adam and Eve have a third son, Seth, from whom the bloodline of the patriarchs’ stems, leading ultimately to Noah, the man whose uncorrupted blood in a world full of genetically-distorted abominations and righteousness in a world corrupted by sin would ultimately lead to the salvation of El Shaddai’s creation.

Correction in the teaching* At 26:05 the modern version of the letter tav should be ת and not ב Apologies for the glitch ____ Bereshit - “In The Beginning” Genesis 1:1-6:8 This is the first parsha of the new Torah portion cycle, covering the first few chapters of Genesis and introducing us to the wonder of God’s creation. I’m curious as to your understanding of Genesis 1:27. We know it is not talking about physical image because Elohim is spirit. Do you think He took some of His attributes and placed them in man and other attributes He placed in woman, so together they would possess many of the attributes of Yah, if they were walking perfectly in His ways? I think in Kabbalah they consider the Shekhinah presence to be the divine feminine. I’ve always wondered about this verse.
