Rightly or wrongly, most of the world still remembers his name with with awe and respect near on a thousand years later. True legend

I am Mongolian and have seen many documentaries about Chinggis Khaan including the BBC-made one but this one is far better and portrayed Chinggis Khaan as a relatable human being as compared to what the popular art portrays. I think it is because this documentary made by the Secret Nature is based on the expert advice from the Mongolian Academy of Sciences.

I first met Mongolian people 4 years ago when I traveled to Hungary to do my doctoral studies. Believe me! The most amazing, friendly, social and helpful foreign people I have ever met in my life. I love their culture and lifestyle.

I find incredible how much people valued their honor and reputation in the past days... Is something we have completely lost these days

Aside the senseless killing that often frequented back then, theirs was truly the best life any adventurous soul could have asked for. Every day new pastures, different horizons, fresh lands. Free from properties, lifeless things or a specific land taking ownership of one's life. Follow the heart, the wind and the sun ever onwards, grateful and in harmony with nature and the elements. Proudly bearing the name "NOMAD." The grassland my matress and the open star lit sky, my roof. Oh How I Wish!!!

You know it's gonna be a well made documentary when they actually got a freaking newborn baby to portray a scene of Temujin's birth.

The life of the Mongols, much like the Huns before them, was predicated on their horses. Obviously they weren’t the first empire or first people to ever ride and utilize horses, by any stretch of the imagination, but they were the best at getting the most out of horses and using them to their advantage to travel great distances in a short amount of time, not succumb to hunger, conduct swift raids, and become masters of mounted archery. It was integral to their nomadic lifestyle, and set them apart from the rest, allowing them to conquer and rule the largest stretch of land in human history, among other things.

Great video. The Mongolian Empire is the most fascinating empire of all time. Genghis is the greatest general in history.

Please understand this beautiful documentary has focused only on Genghis Khans 'war or militarily life' and thus makes us feel that everything was so bloody. This must have been hardly 5% of the Mongolian history. If we see or read the rest 95% about this wonderful Nation, which is well suppressed by its neighbours - the Chinese and European forums, our outlook will definitely change..!!

a mild documentary of Genghis Khan. some versions depict him as a very cruel person, others, not so much. for me it doesn't matter, i just like to see Docs' of famous people, and Genghis Khan was one of my favorites and he conquered a large land mass, and armies that wasn't prepared for his type of fighting.

Europe got very lucky Ogedei Khan died when he did and the Mongol Empire decided to halt it's expansion into Europe. At the point of Ogedei's death, Europe was in serious trouble.

Khan is a charismatic leader.

Very interesting documentary. It shows throughout time nothing changed when it comes to world domination. From Mongols to Alexander the Great and from Romans to USA. It's still the same. Have to say that in the times where communication was very basic (No internet, phone, telly, radar, etc etc) the leaders showed sheer brilliance in organizing and community building, but always failed on over-confidence and the power trip. Tho in present day world dominance is still looked for (USA), it will still not work out. In despite, or actually thanks to, technology etc, world dominance remains an utopia. And that is good. Earth created different cultures for a reason. And it's not to destroy it. Them who will try will fail! Nature stops it. Too much power will finally be balanced by time. But.... The Mongol era, was very impressive. Somehow terrifying and overwhelming.... And only imagination can go where time stopped history. Nice and thnx for the Documentary :)

Genghis and his successors constant wars were at the end a disaster for Mongol people. When in XVI century few hundred Russian Cossack came, there was not many left to oppose them and Siberia fell to the Russians. By the way Russian defense minister Shoigu comes from Tuva tribe, same as the greatest Mongol strategist Subutai in Genghis times.

Sure, I can see me sitting around thinking, you know dry, brittle, inflexible wood makes a terrible bow... so what this highly flexible wood I'm using to make these bows with really needs is.... some extremely inflexible, brittle, dry bone strapped to it.... Yeah, I can see me inventing that bow. -in like NEVER. They say what makes man special is his capacity to invent. I say, - so what makes billions upon billions of us special, is an ability almost NONE of us possess? In Koreans record of Genghis Khan's Mongolian Empire, they controlled over Huns and Turks of Asia and Eurasia's horse back tribes. Either they joined the Empire or faced extinction. Very simple and was real. Korea was only able to hold them back because their composite bows were better reflex bows than Mongols reflex bows. And their arrow tips were stronger because Koreans mixed seashells(calcium and carbon) with iron which made iron into steel. Their records, head on battles proved Mongol's mounted army was well experienced and seasoned warriors. Korea was only effective holding their positions in mountainous castles for minimum casualties. Korea were in very bad shape during 30 years of war with Mongols. But when Genghis Khan had died war broke out between their sons. If that didn't happened Korean race could have been only as history like many many tribes and small nations who went against Mongol Empire. Korea was last nation of Asia offered choice between join or face extinction like others by Mongol Empire. Korea chose war and they fought for 30 years. Mongol Empire lost their best army the real Mongolian main army on the way to Japan in ships. They met angry sea and submerged. Their remains were found in 80's in bottom of sea, all wrecks leaned heavily to 1 direction which looked like unusually strong sea current in sea between Korea and Japan. Because the ships could only sail to Japan in certain seasons they set sail with their best army , the real Mongolian army and they all sank. Then Mongolian Empire lost control over Huns and Turks because they lost the main army that had fear over the other army of Huns and Turks and that eventually led to fall of the empire with works of Chinese corruptions.

His name was not "Ghengis Khan" that was his title. His name was Temugyn.

It is true that the Mongols allowed everyone to believe in any religion. When they went South-West (from Mongolia) they accepted Islam (and 'Khans' became Muslims). When they went North (Russia) they accepted Christianity. When they went East they accepted Buddhism (maybe Confuciusim also) and when they went South (Nepal & India) they accepted Hinduism. I guess they were like a ‘wild forest bush-fire’ which seems to destroy everything but ultimately becomes cause for creating a new life…!

Not sure if the extras in the video are native Mongolians, but we can still see clear ethnic resemblances with the American Indians which confirms the Indians indeed emigrated from Eastern Asia once. Only they never reached the greatness and everlasteing epicness as their Mongolian cousins
