The Trangia 25 and 27 series cook kits are universally loved, but sometimes you want more fire power to cook with than the spirit burner. Is the original Trangia gas insert worth the money?

My gas burner started leaking gas from a joint-after about 8years. Wrote to Trangia…”oh- that should not happen- we will send you another”…free. That customer service is why you buy Trangia. ❤

I bought one of the Bulin _knock-offs_ about five or six years ago. Cost me £12 ($15) at the time, when a "proper" Trangia gas burner was £50. I've never had a problem with it. Very controllable flame. I don't see the need to spend four times as much, for the same effect. It will boil 500ml of water in two minutes in my #25 kettle. The Trangia burner takes seven minutes. The only problem I have with it is the noise it makes when it's on blast. P.S. The spirit and Bulin gas burner fit inside the #25 kettle together. Best of both worlds.

That would be a great idea to see a comparison video between the original Trangia gas burner and the knock off. I've got the Bulin one and you really made me curious about that "tremendous" difference between the two. I'm okay with the Bulin, it's a great gas adaptor at a good price, but now I'd like to see a head to head comparison. Thanks for this great video!

I have both the Trangia and knock off. Funny enough the knock off version is better in liquid gas mode than the Trangia. Both will do it but the Trangia splutters and flares a bit depending on what gas you’re using.

Tested FB gas burner this morning in a 25. Heat distribution with diffuser very good and easy to manage the heat to avoid burning or damaging the frying pan. Using an anodised pot in the 25 i made hot chocolate with milk, easy to maintain a simmer again with diffuser. With water in the pot it’s possible to simmer with bubbles like champagne continuously Compared to original Trangia burner I could maintain a simmer with the FB more easily and with the Trangia the temperature would slowly climb above a simmer although this took a while. FB will produce a ferocious flame if required for a quick boil, I didn’t do time tests boiling water, both are fast enough. I’m pleased with FB, one could manage with the Original Trangia just a bit harder to maintain low heat.

In Europe, normal quality EN417 gas canisters will be filled with a butane/propane mixture. Only cheap ones will be pure butane - I will only recommend pure butane in warm environments (>15C/59F) and only if you're really on a budget or nothing else is available. The boiling point of butane is -1C/30F, but it doesn't have to be that cold outside before it becomes a problem as the continued evaporation inside the canister will cool the gas during cooking.
@fallyn2920

yeah i love this thing. it makes it a true cooking solution. makes the most sense with the 25 and if you throw in the triangle and leave the spirit burner, you have a dual burner setup that still fits inside itself! Plus, this burner ads the option to throw the omnia oven on top, making it a relatively compact field kitchen indeed. I've had so much fun with that setup while in Denmark.

I was on the fence getting the gas stove, and recently made the purchase. Then browsing to find more info on it I came across this video. I can tell it will be handy and open up options as I already have other stoves that use the same fuel canisters. For me it shouldnt be a waste of money. For a while Ive used the trangia 27 alcohol stove kit for a minimalist cook kit for my jeep trips on the trail or overland camping or traveling to different countries. Ive backpacked with it too, taken it out while hunting to prep a meal haha. Its a good stove. Holds my 2 titanium kettles too (1l and a 650ml kettles. So far its my goto cook kit when I do not need the 2 burner camp stove, 5lb propane bottle 10inch pot and pans lol 👌 saves so much needed space for other gear and cuts down on weight

I love this stove. A con of this stove you did not mentioned in your video is that the stove is kind of loud (That's why my girlfrind let me use this stove when where out camping :-) I have some requestvideo's: There is a Finnish company that makes a very lightweight stove: The X-Boil alcohol stove. Gas, for when the place you’re camping at won’t allow the alcohol burner… (Or when you want a “slower” simmer?) Have both. Have both Isobutane *AND* regular butane cans, which are fine for when you need to heat something up and the power’s out. Oh, and for a little bit, he got close to a nice *slow* simmer - which is what I tested for specifically when I tried it out.

I have used trangia with gas for the last 20+ years. While not recommended, it can burn with the canster upside down as long as there is some pressure in the canister. But a better solution is to use a good isobutane/propane mixture. The will work fine even if it's a bit cold. I've had good experience with that at -7C/19F. But if you need to go somewhere really cold, I would recommend the Trangia X2 multifuel burner with Coleman Fuel or white gas. That one is, however, not just plug and play as it requires some experience to get the priming right and simmer control is more limited.

@puma1304
@puma1304 Год назад
YES, do such comparisons! I love Trangia! Since I am not a big friend of gas cans and I very seldom use them I was thinking about buying the cheaper Chinese version, but I am still not that sure... In any case if I would use gas cans I think that the Trangia set gives me much more confidence, above all because its low gravity center and wide base is far safer than the traditional burners that are fixed right on top of the can! Additionally it is far better protected from the wind and the heat is funneled right up to the pot in which is to be cooked. In many places and occasions spirit burners (open flame, liquid fuel) are not allowed, this obviously leads to the decision to use an adapter like this one. Firebox stoves are perhaps the only other "smart" option to use this adapter! In any case I always carry the Trangia AND the Firebox in order to be more flexible (fuel) and get the most of the possibilities the environment offers.

Also useful if you live in a place where alcohol stoves are illegal permanently (or part of the year like in a burn ban)

I would like to see this burner compared to the Firebox gas insert.

Hmmm Earnie, I seem to have a vague recollection you did review that knock-off burner. I watch other RU-vidrs but I know you as the trangia guy. I know about that burner somehow, just like I know about and bought the trangia because of you.

Swap the trangia minis pot stand for the Trangia triangle and use with the Trangia gas burner. 👍

I probably asked in the past, and probably forgot, what's your take on Solo Stove products?
