In Scandinavia most outdoor people know the Trangia. Most scouts start using them when they're about 8 years old, so when they start hiking or camping, it's almost second nature to them. Using the bag for the burner is also quite important for another reason than preventing fuel being transfered from the burner to the pot/kettle: The two types of metal used for the burner and the pot/kettle will actually interact with each other, and you may end up with a hole in your pot/kettle if you don't physically separate the items, preventing them from touching each other for and long period of time (e. g. storage).

Brilliant tip given through experience with this product,thanks Hans. Mate i've only just discovered the Trangia range two days ago,and i'm blown away by the ergonomics and simplicity for an all weather product. No wonder the English shat themselves when a Viking boat appeared on the horizon....Pound for pound you guys are pretty resourceful, Long swords,Long boat,very cool helmets,Ravens and of course the Trangia Gen 1!!!!!!!!. Perfect for shitty English weather..Lol

Agree, I think my first experience with a trangia, at least that I remember, was on a kano holiday in Sweden in 1989 with my parents, we cooked freshly caught fish on a trangia every day for 2 weeks. And now 32 years after, I'm cooking freshly caught fish on a trangia with my daughter. For some of us a trangia is more than jusg a cooking stove, when you know you know!

I bought a 25 series Trangia cook set in 1974 along with an extra burner. Next year I will have owned that set for 50 years! I purchased replacement simmer rings for my old burners because, in my opinion, the new model simmer ring works better than the original simmer ring. Along with the simmer rings, one other difference between the old sets and the new sets is that the wind screen on my old set just sits on the burner base and is held in place by a lip on the burner base and gravity. The windscreen and burner base don't attach to each other like they do on the new sets. I prefer my old style burner base and wind screen because, if I'm cooking something that needs to simmer for a long time, I can easily remove the wind screen and pot, remove the burner that has run out of fuel, and replace the old burner with my second cold burner that I have already refueled. I can then light the second burner, replace the windscreen and pot, and finish simmering my meal with just a very short pause in cooking. I have produced many, many meals with my Trangia cook set over the years and have been VERY happy with it! I have used it backpacking, canoe camping, car camping, in my dorm room (with a window open to prevent carbon monoxide build-up), at home in my garage during power outages (again, with a window open to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning). I have used it while camping for fly-in hunting trips in Alaska to camping trips in Florida and many other hunting, fishing, and camping trips in other states and Canada. I've used them in nice conditions, driving rain, and heavy snow below zero. Trangia burners never fail to light and cook no matter what the conditions. There is nothing to go wrong with them or break. Trangia "storm cookers" are called that for a reason; with the design of the burner base, wind screen, and burner they often cook BETTER in storms with high winds!

I like you own all 3 Trangia sets and think they are great bits of kit. just a note on the Trangia Mini. I manged to fit the normal pot gripper that you get with the 27 and 25 (can be brought separately very cheap) inside, so I did away with the flimsy one you get with the 28. I also managed to squeeze in there a lighter and a very small bottle of cooking oil. Now its a brilliant little kit.

As a collector of camping stoves, the Trangia is perhaps my favourite, as it is an all in one self contained unit for actually cooking meals, and not just boiling water. I have even cooked a full roast dinner using my Trangia 25 with the gas burner and a big cast iron pot on top. I have a Trangia 27 and it is quite good for motorcycle camping as you can cook a meal in the vestibule of your tent without the worry of toxic fumes.

good review! I never thought I would like alcohol burners so much until I got the Trangia, and it is a piece of history & tradition too... it has no moving parts that could eventually fail, it is silent and the fuel is cheap, it is also versatile (multifuel), and although I own other stoves (also some relics like the Svea 123 which I love) most of the time I use the Trangia, but I also carry a twig stove (Firebox) with me, this is a great combination!

Now this video is speaking directly to my first ❤👍! I own the TRANGIA 28T and the TRANGIA 27-8 ULHA (like you, I already had the smaller TRANGIA kettle). For anyone who is torn between the 27 series and the larger 25 series I would look at the kind of cooking you will be doing. The 25 is larger, yes, but it also allows for more room when stirring foods like Chilli, Beef Stews, Homemade Veggie Soup, Spaghetti Sause, Chili Sauce. That extra (in the pot) cooking room is a huge bonus even when cooking for only two people.👍. The 27 series is great for smaller portions of the above BUT doesn't give that extra stirring room like the 25 series does. Love my 27 series, thinking about getting the non stick 25 series, and love my 28T series for backpacking and for carrying in a bum pack for day trips. Hopes this info helps others to make an informed decision. Bty, I always take the 28T or the 27T with me on my boat or Yak when doing an all day fishing trip and shoreline camp overnight.

Trangias are just so addictive. Like you, I own all 3 versions, plus the gas burner, and recently added the Trangia Triangle, after hearing it might no longer be available (even though I already had the similar Clikstand and Esbit Triangle). Like I said...addictive! The Fancee Feest wick stove is probably the best alky out there, and I use it a lot, but it lacks the romance of the Swede.

A nice review .. thanks for sharing. I've got the 28. Add-on's include: A Tatonka Stainless Steel Bowl into which the Set nests very nicely. Two additional Aluminium Bowls with folding handles which nest inside the 28 Bowl .. the smaller of the two still big enough to house the Burner and Plastic Bag. The additional bowls are from an 'Evernew' Camping Bowl Set (bought sometime in the 70's and can still be seen on Google). I also slot the Lid of the Evernew Set under the the setup and into a Sea King Bag (circa 70's .. from 'somewhere') for transport and storage. This, together with the Tatonka Bowl gives me quite a versatile little Outdoor Kitchen Set. Not 'lightweight' in today's terms .. but then, at 71 and with a wrecked knee, any notable distance 'thru' hiking is no longer on my agenda. Although, back in the day, I would have carried this setup without even blinking. Some other tweaks: A piece of Silicon Matting cut to fit inside the Pan protects the Non-Stick Surface even more effectively. It also serves as a Heat Shield when working on 'Heat-Sensitive' Surfaces. A Folding Tripod made from a SS Bicycle Spoke and some Wire (for when using the two smaller Bowls with the Burner and Pot Stand / Wind Shield). Stores inside the Set. Cable Tie to keep the Pot Holder closed when stored inside the setup .. slides on and off. A little disposable syringe .. for transferring unused fuel from the Trangia Burner back into the Fuel Bottle (I prefer to transport my Burner empty and I don't burn it 'dry') .. or into one of the even smaller little 'simmer' Burners that I have concocted .. a whiskey bottle screw-on cap filled with glass wool works. Am going out today, in a mo with this specific set for a 'brunch'. During my earlier Nordic Walk, I was mulling over using this Set .. your Post anchored it thanks 👍. Take care ..

Like you I passed on the 28T for the longest time. Then I finally got it and reach for it consistently. Wonderful for hot "on the go" beverages and a great cuppa soup. Add a sandwich and that's a good little lunch for most people while you're out and about. The 28T looks like a toy, compared to the 27T or 25T, BUT IT REALLY IS A "POWERHOUSE" FOR A VERY SMALL PIECE OF KIT. Mine has seen many different uses and plenty of meal time action. It quickly became a favorite GO-TO day kit. If I lost it, I'd replace it again in the blink of an eye! IT'S JUST THAT GOOD, REALLY!

Been a 27-4 UL owner for a while now and it is a really fun kit. I've always boiled water for tea in a pot with the frying pan on top so I've never seen the need to get the kettle. Also, I would be concerned with all those non stick pots nested inside one another getting scratched. It's surprising the trangia bag is a seperate purchase and I LOVE the trangia fuel bottles.

This is a VERY helpful Trangia Tour! Really love this brand. I use the # 25 model for car camping... and when we lose power at home. I just picket up another spirit burner with just a little pot holder for backpack... wish I had known about the #28? Model... great for one person. All in all... you can't go wrong with Trangia. Just one comment... I know some use that 'yellow HEAT' for fuel.. but around food I'm not sure that is a good idea. I always use Denatured alcohol... but that's me. Thanks

When burning alcohol, the Trangia is silent. Allows you to enjoy the outdoors. One feature that few people are aware of is stack-ability. All three stoves have pots are set up so that the pots serve as lids and warming surfaces. The fry pan, on the #28, will hold some liquid or other food above the pot. The #27 has 2 1-liter pots that nest, but one of them has a bottom which holds it above the other pot. The 1.75 l pot, in the #25 set, sits nicely on top of the 1.5 l, allowing other courses to stay warm. I had several white gas stove, but now only use Trangia, because of their simplicity and reliability.

Thanks for the great video. Man, the extra inch in width sure gives you a lot more capacity with the 25. And the weight really isn’t that bad. I like the idea of owning both of 25 for one cooking for multiple people, and the 27. Too bad options and prices are sketchy right now.

I purchased the middle size version with the alternative fuel option base (butane, white gas,gasoline). It wasn’t a bad functioning alcohol stove and the alternative fuel burner is pricy and finicky. The biggest gripe I have is the volume it occupies, almost 3/4 of my 15 litre pannier is taken up with this thing plus fuel! I have other stoves that may take 1/4 of a pannier so I can pack other important stuff. 8:42

I bought the #28 for $18 (CAD) on close- out at a He-man camo/hunting store and loved it. But, as a fisherman, I desired a lager fry pan. The #25 only slightly more cost & weight and had larger pots. Its' my everyday kit. While the kettle is cute, it only holds about a quart whereas the #25 contains a two pots, which are bigger (Important if a baby is being delivered!). A great cook system, fool-proof and quiet.

THANKYOU AGAIN, now time to buy all three!!!! It was nice to see the little Aussie 'skunkworks spiral flame burner do so well,against esteemed Swedish company 👍👍 One question though, the '25' series is designed for larger cook ups,so is the burner bigger? If so will it universally fit the wind burner/stand in the other models designed for a lesser volume of food preparation? Say for example model '28T'. Also does that little Aussie flamethrower fit Trangia bases/windshields? I agree with u about the stand,but placing the spiral steampunk burner inside Trangia stand/windburner models, that seems to b a match made in heaven for efficiency,thats what i want to put together,apologies for boring the shit out of you. Understand the 27 and 25 are made for cooking food Not water for freeze dried food, but for cooking food you can buy in a supermarket The Trangia burner simmers using the simmer ring/snuffer, so you can slow cook pasta, rice, lentils Real food The two pots means you can have two dishes and the kettle gives you hot drinks With the 27 you get two one-liter pots which is much bigger than the regular 750 self contained pots/mugs These two one-liter pots mean you can cook a large quanity of food, easily for three people The 27 and 25 are stormcooker, which means you can use them in the most difficult of conditions on the top of exposed mountains and still cook Superb sets

Should check out seasoning the pot. The aluminum ones. I did with my mini an it works wonders without barely anything sticking. Used regular veg cooking oil. An home oven on broil to get it hot as it could go. And the stove top burner on high. Stuck it in the oven a little, pulled it out to the stove top, than wiped it down with napkin with oil. Heated the bottom of the pot an leaned it around on the sides on the burner. Than wiped it an into the oven on broil 5-10 minutes. Than back out same thing on the stove top on high again. Than back in the oven. After 6-8 times. It has a golden honey color of the oil baked onto it. Most of everything I’ve cooked in it since, with a touch of oil/butter as you would with a nonstick. Just about nothing sticks. An anything hearty to soups. No bad flavor from the oil baked on an it isn’t slowly coming off into each dish any that I can see.

I have used the Trangia 27 kit for upwards of 30 years. I find that it comes into it's own for kayak camping, where, whatever you do, your kit gets wet. This can be a problem for a gas stove, but makes no difference to the Trangia. I also used it to teach my kids camp cookery, as it is non-pressurised and relatively safe (providing I supervised them). The only disappointment I had was that the optional gas burner, despite being expensive, was always feeble. Perhaps they are better now?

I’m a big fan of the Duossal material. I think the 25 is the most versatile overall for practical cooking. Some of my favorite add ones are the multi disk cutting board/strainer which would add a ton of functionality and replace your plastic sheets to protect the fry pan... also I add a couple plates to mine, they are sized to nest under the 25 and on top of the 27. There is a grate available that lets you set smaller diameter pots into the 25 or 27 wind screen. I found a small steamer rack that fits only the 25... but also works as a steamer or baking rack inside the pots. It’s a 15cm haidragon one from eBay if I recall. It was pretty cheap. If you want to expand the system, there are billy pots for each that are designed to nest the 25 or 27 system inside. In my view, the Trangia is the best designed and thought out system out there. In this age where the major stove manufacturers are switching to high tech proprietary flux ring pots, it seems to me that Trangia has been finding elegant solutions to the same problems for almost a century.

Thanks for the comparison. I have the 27 kit but would like to get the new saute pan, which is designed for the 25. Please can you let me know if the larger size frying pan (that comes with the 25) will fit on the pan supports of the 27? Many thanks!

If you are tired of seeing burn marks on your pots and pans try this stainless steel heat diffuser with a removable handle so you can have even cooking without burn marks. Place it where you would put your pot, and put the pot on the heat diffuser. :)

The 27 with the extra billy makes for a very flexible set up and means that making a stew or cooking pasta for 2 or more people an option. 27 nests inside so takes up little extra space but gives a big cooking capacity increase. Only negative is it's Aluminium but for the times I use it hopefully it shouldn't have too much of a health impact.
@martinloof9291
@martinloof9291 4 года назад
There is a laminated aluminum/steel option that triangia calls duossal. Basically you get the lightness and heat spreading properties of aluminium but with a harder inside that doesnt scratch, is easier to clean (food doesnt stick or burn to steel the same way) and you dont have to worry about the health issues. Only downside is that you have to carry another 230g for the 25 size and 140 for the 27

@@NorthernMIPathfinder Duossal is great, it's not nonstick but unless one is unlucky (rumors of delamination between Ali and SS layer) your purchase will last a life time and more. If anything gets stuck it's easy to remove with a coarse scrubby sponge and if stubborn I use a little bit of Barkeepers friend which is superb SS cleaner. Personally I find for base camping gas gives the ultimate control, I usually have the 25 with gas and the 27 with alcohol for making a brew and soup etc and because it's quiet which I prefer in the morning.

Do you know if the "non-stick" pots and frying pan are really non-stick, or simply hard anodized? Are the hard anodized kits worth the extra money over the plain aluminum kits? If I'm carrying my Trangia 25 by canoe or hiking, I never carry the tea kettle. The specifications say they hold a 0.9 liters, but that is only if you don't heat the water. If you try to heat the water with 0.9 liters in it, the water will almost immediately overflow. A true fill, if you are going to heat water, is only about 750 ml. Since just my own camping coffee cup holds a bit more than that (and I usually don't camp alone), the kettle is essentially useless. Therefore I heat water in one of the regular pots so I have enough for two.

Surprised trangia discontinued the 28. Wanted on of them for the longest after having the others. All I was able to find was a couple AU shops that wanted $80+ not counting shipping. But managed to piece one together new from places selling new replacement parts for the 28 for about $45 and even replacement stuff is very scarce

@@Soho-Fart lol u may of bought one of them I was eyeing. But I did find the pot pan and windscreen all separate on eBay in the packages. Like replacements. The only part I couldn’t find like that was the pot gripper. And had to go to the trangia website and get that from there. The only thing I wish they had for the 28 was a nonstick pot. But I took the pot and put my home stove burner on high and maxed out the oven. Got the pot hot in the oven, put it on the burner on the stove. Whipped vegetable oil in it all around with a napkin than back in the oven. I only used the stove burner to keep heat on it after grabbing it from the oven to apply oil. But after about 10/15 in an out the oven an applications of oil. The inside of that pot has a honey colored coating of that baked on coat of oil. So it’s nonstick now. And have used it since. That coating didn’t come off with cooking with heat. And cleaned up real easy. If the coating is coming off in use. It’s so slowly coming off I couldn’t tell by look. Or a different flavor in food.

This is simple. For whom will you cook? If you cook for yourself, a smaller one will do. As you increase the persons (for whom you will cook), a larger one is required. The amount of persons (for whom you will cook) determines the size of the set.

Question for Ernie or anyone else with experience. In the pouring rain is it ok to cook with the Trangia stove inside the tent vestibule? Or is there a danger of dangerous fumes from the fuel? I do get that any flammable stove in a tent is a risk but I’d appreciate opinions on this anyway. Btw I’d keep a tent flap open for ventilation.

Quick question. If the Trangia cooking system uses pot, pans and kettles made from Aluminium then you are poisoning yourself with aluminium oxide. Even the non stick surface coating (Teflon) on the upmarket Trangia cookware is cancer causing, so are you aware of this?. Chiefs etc are not permitted to cook with Aluminium, copper or Teflon coating. Only Stainless steel, cast-iron or pure ceramic cookware can be used. My Trangia gear has been thrown out other than the burner and now I use the MSR stainless cooking gear. Love your videos
