Olá! Thanks for watching. This is one of my oldest videos, from when I was not great at GeoGuessr. If you like the game though, you've come to the right channel!

Since you're a Geographer, here are some tips: 1st place: that yellow tree right in the beginning (0:47) is a Ipê, a typical tree of the Cerrado (Brazilian savanna), which lies in the middle of Brazil. However, the grass is kinda short and the sky is very cloudy, which means that you're probably in Mata Atlântica (a forest biome between the cost of the Southeast and the Cerrado). Infrastructure is urban and it seems to be good, which also suggests a more developed state in the Southeast. So pinning somewhere in São Paulo would be a good guess if you don't find any other info. 2nd place: those palm trees at 1:41 are called Carnaúba and are very characteristic of the transition biome between the Amazon Rainforest and the semiarid outback of the Northeast (that biome is very, very singular and is called Mata de Cocais, which is mainly in Maranhão state). You can see that there are a lot of very green trees (like that mango-tree at 4:34) surrounded by a dry soil, which suggests irregular rainfall, confirming the hypothesis of the transition between the Amazon and the Northeastern semiarid. That kind of fence and rooftop (4:32) is also very characteristic of the semiarid. So everything points to Maranhão, which is the correct guess. 3rd place: those trees right in the beginning (7:03) are eucalyptus trees, native of Australia, but which can be found anywhere where there once was Mata Atlântica (coast of the Southeast) and in the South, also close to the sea. The sky is very clean, the land is very flat, the soil is white, there is a big cattle farm (7:06), infrastructure is good, and you can see a silo on the horizon (7:06), suggesting that you're in the Rio Grande do Sul (there are a lot of cattle farms and cellulose industries there). 4th place: that's the typical Cerrado landscape (10:35). The most characteristic things are those gnarly short trees and that long and bushy green grass, which is called Braquiária, native of Africa and an invasive species in the Cerrado. The land is flat with many hills on the horizon, the soil is red, and the sky is somewhat cloudy, but not too cloudy as in the Mata Atlântica or the Amazon. Minas Gerais and Goiás must pop into your mind right away. See that there are more eucalyptus farms there (11:55 and 12:49), which would point to a Cerrado landspace somewhere near the Mata Atlântica (which goes from the Southeast coast to Belo Horizonte at max). So pinning somewhere in the center of Minas Gerais would be a good guess. 5th place: that's the typical landscape of the agricultural frontier of Brazil between the Cerrado and the Amazon. See the dirty roads and the lack of pavement, the puddles after rain, the heavy clouds in the sky, the red soil, the very green grass which changes from the long Braquiária grass typical of the Cerrado to the short grass of the Amazon, the very green and tall trees typical of the Amazon (15:26), the Embrapa sign (14:49), which is the National Company of Agricultural Research, and the airport (14:57). Everything points to a medium/large city in the north of Mato Grosso (Sinop or Sorriso would be my guesses).

You did amazing, I'm speechless! Maybe it won't help much and it can be hard to remember... but if you see something with "gaúcho" on it (8:34), it's probably the southest state of Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul). That's what we call people from here.

Another easy way to kind of locate yourself in Brazil is to know the phone codes. 10s (11, 12, etc) are from Sao Paolo, 20s from Rio state, 30s from Minas Gerais and so on. There are lots of business that show their phones in front of their buildings. That Minas Gerais city is really close to where my GF was born and I managed to score a 4,999 there. On the other hand I have already passed by Registro but I went no where near it in geoguessr.

"Bem-vindo a _" does mean "Welcome to _". And I have a tip! Don't ignore these type of signs (@ 2:52) in Brazil! They'll usually have the state (abbreviated) and the city/municipality name. These signs are from projects made by the government, so if it's a sign saying something like "we made this road and it cost $$$!" it will also tell you what road you're on (like BR-101 for example.) Nice video ☺️

Dude, on the Minas Gerais town, there was a sign written PMMG, which means Minas Gerais Military Police. Close to it, there was another sign written "Nova", which means new. I thought you were close to Ponte Nova city, here in Minas. Btw, as someone commented below in Portuguese, if you read calmly the bakeries and drugstores signs, you'll probabbly find at least the state where you are. Anyway, congrats! You know Brazil better than many Brazilians!

16,467. I wouldn't say I'm better at Brasil, but I was consistently mediocre in this game. 1. you saw the sign, I didn't. Had a lucky-ish guess. 2. Saw the Sao Luis sign, even saw a smaller town on the map, so I clicked near the town I saw on the sign. 3. Saw the sign for the beach, also had the same southern vibes that you saw. Kept seeing the name Sur, figured I was south somewhere. Those town names on the sign were pretty useless for the map. 4. clicked somewhere hilly towards the middle of the country. 5. Saw a advertisement sign for Cuiaba, looked for the airport. DIdn't find that, but clicked there anyways.

in fact Rio Grande do Sul is one of the most different states from the rest of Brazil, an interesting fact is that Rio Grande do Sul has already tried to separate itself from the rest of the country because our culture and climate is very different from the rest of the country
