I heard this song in around 1975 when I was 25. I heard it again recently after 44 long years, that is when I am 69 years old! Felt so nostalgic. A rejuvenating song!
My Dad used to sing this song when I was a kid. Never knew who sang this and didn't even knew the lyrics properly. But today I searched for this song and finally found it. Today I am 34 years old.
I was 5 in 1976 and remember hearing this song in our 1974 Dodge Charger. My favorite! I wish I could go back. Hearing it online is SO much enhanced and different from hearing it on AM radio.
I haven't heard this song in at least 40 years!! Brought happy tears to my eyes. :') Especially the part about God's voice calling in the morning! I used to host a radio show called Morning Light for 20 years on WFIF! I sure do miss it!!
I have heard this song when I was in school during my school days 1976-79.... An old class mate used to sing in class whenever she was asked to sing a song..... So happy to hear this again after so many years....
I used to listen to this all the time at our local Nordic Ski Jumping events in Northern Ontario Canada back in the 70's as a kid...I always thought this song represented the jumpers as they soared like birds in the sky!
Such a beautiful song ,my favourite song I use to hear during my school days ,after so many years I am listening to this song, refreshed my memories with happiness
Funny how some songs act like time machines, taking me back to 1976 in this case, when I close my eyes (pot helps), it feels like I am there in the room. Thanks for uploading
Yes, it was released in 1975. It didn't become a hit in the US until 1976. From Wikipedia: In the United States, the song became a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Easy Listening Singles chart on 14 February 1976 (becoming that chart's overall No. 1 song for 1976),
Absolutely this was a big hit on the radio in the Philadelphia area when I was a kid, at least on 610 WIP, which was quite the popular radio station with parents (more than the young) in that era. I forgot it was winter 1976 - sounds sort of quaint for that time because Disco was such a growing influence on pop music in the U.S. by that year. This was a rare European hit to cross the Atlantic at the time, but I thought it was from Spain, not Holland!
Lyrics Verse 1] When the sun shines on the mountains And the night is on the run It's a new day, it's a new way And I fly up to the sun I can feel the morning sunlight I can smell the new-mown hay I can hear God's voice is calling On my golden skylight way [Chorus] Una paloma blanca I'm just a bird in the sky Una paloma blanca Over the mountains I fly No one can take my freedom away [Verse 2] Once I had my share of losing Once they locked me on a chain Yes, they tried to break my power Oh, I still can feel the pain [Chorus] Una paloma blanca I'm just a bird in the sky Una paloma blanca Over the mountains I fly Yes, no one can take my freedom away Yes, no one can take my freedom away [Bridge] When the sun shines on the mountains And the night is on the run It's a new day, it's a new way And I fly up to the sun [Chorus] Una paloma blanca I'm just a bird in the sky Una paloma blanca Over the mountains I fly No one can take my freedom away
Returning from Canada to Prestwick, French Canadian pilots played this on approach to gods country Scotland, I salute the pilots and crew, what an ending
Their second biggest hit may have been 'Morning Sky'. Although it was a huge success in continental Europe towards the end of 1975, especially in the Netherlands and Germany, it didn't chart in the UK and North America.
Not all that important, but according to Wikipedia, the song was released in 1975 but became a hit in 1976 (at least in the USA): "The song became a #1 hit on the U.S. Billboard Easy Listening Singles chart on 14 February 1976 (becoming that chart's overall #1 song for 1976) and peaked at #26 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100,[1] as well as peaking at #33 on the U.S. Hot Country Singles chart[2] and #10 on the UK Singles Chart."
