George Best and Denis Law were sat in the dressing room before a game versus Man City but none of the other players turned up, George say's to Denis ''I'm still going to play'' and Denis replied ''I'm not going to bother, i'll see you later'' and walked out. Later that evening Denis see's George and asked him what was the result, George say's ''we won 4-0'' Denis started laughing and jokingly say's to George ''what only 4-0'' and Best replied ''yeah it was too easy, so i decided leave at half-time.
George Best and Ronaldinho are so similar in lifestyle but mesmerising on the pitch. So sad they could not play at the highest level for longer. To be revered and never forgotten. R.I.P. Belfast Boy :-)
phenominal player with a phenominal life style, george best for me is the greatest player iv ever seen live,im in me 80s now but i have to thank the uploader as this brought back many memories of this great player
He would be priceless today. We have a generation of fans who have only known Ronaldo or Messi. This guy was better than both of them . Remember he played during a time of bad pitches in the winter . Also the tackling then was sometimes brutal.
Trapped EU, thats so true. Best was the greatest player to chase and stop a long ball at or near the by line then cut inside and go back up the way at a diagonal run to make space for himself while beating players so he could then smash it into the net, with any foot. On any side of the park. What a player was georgie best !!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is only one George Best. However much he was adored, I still think he is underrated. When people talk about the best players of all time they somehow always forget the one that had "Best" in his name.
Mr.Shade - I know he played in the 1960's and most of his games were not filmed/ video for all to see today. But if you were to interviewed all the top players of that era most would have said he was the best of the best. I have rarely seen similar all round skills.
@@mikewa2 I saw him week in week out Mike for years and I have never seen a better footballer! The greatest of alltime in my opinion! He had the lot, just a shame we didnt get to see it all for longer! The anticipation of going to Old Trafford to see him play was something to behold! Ive never had that feeling with any other footballer! Only Cryuuf comes close!
George Best, was the best. And he knew how to enjoy himself. "I spent a lot of money on booze, girls and fast cars. The rest I just squandered." -George Best A story : George Best had spent time at a hotel where he was staying along with the beautiful former Miss World. The former Manchester United star had a run of very good luck gambling and winning several thousand pounds and upon retiring for the night Best and his young lady decided a champagne night-cap was in order. Room service was contacted and shortly after a waiter arrived at George's room with the champagne. Upon entering the room the waiter was met with a scene of thousands of pound notes strewn across a bed and also upon the bed were George and the half naked former Miss World. As the bell-boy received a healthy tip he could not help but ask , "George, where did it all go wrong?" "In 1969 I gave up women and alcohol - it was the worst 20 minutes of my life" -George Best "He was able to use either foot - sometimes he seemed to have six" -Sir Matt Busby on Best.
At the time there was no one like him. Did things that by today's standards might not seem very special. But the pitches were generally crappy as tackling was way harder. A real maverick who infuriated Matt Busby and got taken for a ride by freeloaders. He was just too nice to people. In context, as good as any of today's superstars. RIP Georgy.
So so lucky Niall. Never mind today's standards. No real tackling on snooker baizes with light balls and no booze? Of course its different. Your word "superstar" sums him up. You just can't take your eyes off him. Mesmerising. I saw him in his decline and deem it a joy. You saw his peak which was a privilege. He didn't play the beautiful game...he WAS the beautiful game.
Mountain Leopard There was nothing that Best couldn't do... he was equally brilliant with both feet, good with the head, could tackle, excellent dribbling, good passer of the ball and a great crosser.... I once saw him take a corner kick with the right foot and then take one with the left foot in the same game (think it was against West Ham in 1972, it's on RU-vid) .... Maradona was outrageously gifted but definitely not as complete as Best.
highights means Nothing, Maradona lost 1 ball on 3 in received. when you Watch his games and not his highlight, he wasnt good at positionning himself from the defenders and by this way lost lots of balls just after receiving it, when there was a pressing he was very bad at positionning himself from the defense, he didnt eliminated defenders as easy as george best at all, atch his games not highlight, Maradona lost as well lots of balls from bad passes, he had that left foot for sure but he is way way way too overated, george best or johah cruff are ay better than he was...
00 00 Nonsense Maradona was a one footed genius who was also a cheating bastard wheras Best was the complete player and honest! Maradona's not fit to lace Best's boots!
Greatest player of all time .Lots of other great players of course but George Best was the greatest for me.He had everything.I wanted to be him when I was young and still do now.Jim.Liverpool.
He played in a hard, ruthless, top quality, fast sometimes downright brutal English 1st Division and made good, tough defenders seem very average. Saw him play LIVE and would have been even BETTER today on perfect pitches, VAR, referee protection and pussycat (usually foreign) EPL defenders.....imagine the penalties he would be awarded these days per season ??? BEST ever. I still enjoy that attempted tackle by chopper Harris that GB evades so easily on a truly awful pitch with the ball under perfect control. Just fantastic. What a player.
Chopper actually made contact with Best but he stayed on his feet. I rememeber Chopper saying George was the best player he ever attempted to kick, or something to that effect, lol. Back then, there were such hard men like Chopper Harris, Norman Hunter, Tommy Smith and Peter Simpson.
At 2:30 that's Bobby Moore failing to stop the shot. Best got the better of Gordon Banks (not in this video) in a wrongly disallowed goal. These are players you'd consider for a World XI and Best made them look ordinary.
I only got to see him play 1 exhibition game in Mallorca but I'm not sure if people know how fast GB was... He was hard to run down in midfield . Another mention those incredible dribbling... And All his skills the first portion of his career was played with a heavy ball and less than good surfaces and the fouls OMG . A fairly small man GB WAS But as tough and resilient as anyone on the field. Just an observation... Not without his shortcomings off the field but What a player..! Great video thanks for sharing.
Es el futbolista más completo de la historia, porque usaba los dos pies con naturalidad, tanto para enganchar como para golear. Sólo Pelé hacía eso, pero Best era más veloz.
Tavy@ ye just cant enough of watching this man running with a ball on mud potatoe fields, and no shin guards, and with a heavier old wet leather ball with his shirt hanging out. Brilliant! A saw at least 9 great goals were he was fouled but rode the tackle so well then scored with either foot. He was by miles the greatest two footed player ever to walk onto a park. His balance in this video is unbelievable. Its so good it defies gravity. Like the famous one we all know where ron chopper harris did TRY and break georges leg or legs or back. And george kind of stumbled a bit but refused to go down. Infact he made it look easy by then sending peter bonneti who was a great goal keeper, 3 diffrent ways then walked the ball into the net. Then that lob over big pat jennings with 2 or 3 on the goal line from 14 to 15 yards out and at an angle, was just genius. No one wouldv thought about doing it never mind just doing it. Ye could watch george best for days and still not fall asleep!!!!!
The word legend is misused today, and applied to players who are nit fit to lace the boots of a player like Best. Truly world class in any era, a Manchester United legend.
There is no authenticity in today’s game, players act like little babies, doing dabs diving, players like Best, Maradona, Di Stefano, Pele took bruises, cuts, broken ribs for their teams but players nowadays are just silly.
Many years ago I heard this story from my Grandmother - My cousin was on trails with Man Utd. He came home and was so upset with himself and never wanted to play soccer again. It wasnt that he was bad it was just he was marking a wee lad from Belfast named George Best.
George best was the beginning of footballers being super stars , like rock stars . Look at the two footed tackles come flying in , leg breakers and career finishers , but Best just rode them without complaint …..I think the thing that sets him on a pedestal was, he had an end product, we see loads of fancy footwork now ….but Best as the name implies was sublime
One of the best and as a young girl with a welsh father that said my god that boy can play football !! I will always remember George Best ! Good football !
You are looking at a player that would be worth £200m + in today's market.....and he was as brave as a lion,...and performed on pitches that resembled Paddy fields....phenomenal talent
Met him by chance shortly before the end. Can’t explain how it made me happy to tell him he was the best. His reaction and what he said to me will stay forever. There might be better but I’m not sure who …
His balance, it always gets me.He would send two players the wrong way by just a swivel of his hips.European cup final 1968, everytime he got the ball the whole of wembley went quiet for for a split second in anticipation of something magic about to happen.
Thank you for this movie. Though I am Brazilian I am a an admirer of Best, the only player I think could rival Pele. Forget Messy, Maradona, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo e Criatiano Ronaldo . Pele and George Best are on the Top as Best ever. When I say Pele was a more complete player than Best it is because Pele was also a good goalkeeper. He played as goalkeeper many times for Santos FC in the 1960s
Michael Trumph What complete nonsense are you from a different planet None of the players you mentioned are in the same league as Pele! Now if yo mentioned Best in that list then I will listen. Best is the best player of alltime!
The best.
He would have been amazing under SAF. after 1968 champions league win, busby left , we bought shitty players that got us relegated in 1974. Which led to best leaving us at age 28!! After that he got addicted to drinking and ruined his career. Bad club management cost us a huge opportunity to catch real madrid is late 60s and early 70s. Best had the hunger and passion. He had the addiction for victory. But we couldn't give it to him. If only we had a great manager taking over after sir matt busby
Steaks. You've literally got Bukayo Saka getting hammered every week and you want to make some stupid point about young people not being as tough as you?
George Best was an incredibly gifted player, loved his dribbling skills, also I wish Duncan Edwards would've lived I feel that he could have been even better, but that's just my opinion.
He came really close to making it to the World Cup in 1966. Northern Ireland had beaten Albania at home (Best scored, he was still 18) but drew away in their last match (equaliser 13 minutes from the end) and they missed out on a play -off against Switzerland, who went on to play West Germany and Argentina in the finals. What might have been!
Thank you George. Magician. You leave so many memories. Rest in Peace. You are and will always be the greatest ever footballer in the eyes of anyone who saw you.
"A thing of beauty and we didn't get it all; and he didn't get it all either, at the end." That line hit me too deeply. RIP George Best, the Greatest Player to ever grace the beautiful game of Football
Why do they Just Have to put wretchedly awful excuses for music on these videos, for heaven's sake, put the sound to match, it's not a funeral we're watching.
George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton are the Great Trio of all time in football. Bobby Charlton said that George Best was naturally gifted player that he has ever seen. RIP George Best ⚰️👏
George Best You are a Fantastic Football player You are the Best George Best Good bye the Belfast boy World legend Maradona Cruyff Pele George Best is the Best Danny van Strien Holland Europe
I have always maintained that a great sportsman can only be as good as the era they compete in . George Best was a very good player and a great entertainer in the 1960s and early 70s . The negatives were his inconsistency on the park ( his brilliant displays were very infrequent , more infrequent than you might think ) and his ( lack of ) longevity at the very top . Do I think Pele , Maradona and Messi were better players than George Best , yes I do , but then , they probably took the game and the skills God handed them much more seriously than George did .
Not much knowledge about football here,George Best was easily the best player ever.He never had pitches like a bowling alley and never faked bad tackles.
An if he had been a tee totaller , he would have dominated the game completely and the millennial's wouldn't have even given CR7 and Messi a second glance.
I'm a retired Kiwi ... never watched much soccer , always rugby for my generation .. Even so ....back in the 1960's we had all heard about Manchester United and George Best. We didn't have a tv back then, so never saw any games . Rialto Channel recently had a documentary on Matt Busby, thought I'd watch it, as I remembered The Beatles song ' Dig it ' mentions him ..I never knew who he was .. Well ..what a great informative documentary , I learned what a awesome fella Busby was ... and of course the documentary included George Best .. What a revelation ..He was in a league of his own .. absolute natural / poetry in motion .. and like his family .. so grounded and straight up .. I finally understand after watching George why it's called the' Beautiful Game. ' Guess who's a new Manchester United supporter ?
George Best, Simply the Best. No modern players with their hairbands, etc, can come close!!!! Just imagine George Best playing on the pitches that they do nowadays . Messi and Ronaldo PISS OFF!!!
When all hope of reconciliation between him & Manchester United had evaporated, he signed a contract to join the AMERICAN CLUB TAMPA BAY ROWDIES. He was nervous about the prospect of playing in the STATES & dreaded a repeat of what had happened to him in BRITAIN : they would build him up, place him on a pedestal only to shoot him down again. His confidence was fractured. We watched some black & white videos of PELE. George said, "I will never be as good as that." PELE has since been quoted as saying that GB is the greatest FB who ever lived.---Georgie Ellis(The Best Set Model) from RUTH ELLIS, MY MOTHER:A Daughter's Memoir Of The Last Woman to be Hanged---by GE with Rod Taylor. On JULY 13, 1955 she was hanged
George G Best was an extraordinary striker no doubt . His speedy game and dribbling were superclass and had some similarity with DD ,a Brazilian striker though Best was more speedy than DD . EDSON ERANTES DO NASIMANTO or PELE , was really a king among all strikers due to the fact that he was super class in all stages , continued or maintained his performance for maximum time , because of the fact that he had no habit of drinking and used to maintained health so that he can play in subsequent/next world cup tournament . He was an ideal player indeed . We do not get such players at present .
Good God have you seen the pitches he had to play on, And the countless players trying to foul him. There are others who did foul on George Best playing today will be playing against the team of eight players the other three would’ve been sent off. Lionel Messi and Ronaldo great dribblers of today wouldn’t have lasted 15 minutes in the 1960s, What I admit they are great dribblers and gold players but I think George Best soon tired of thuggery on the pitch when he had girls drink et cetera lining up off the pitch a handsome man with the world at his feet who else wouldn’t do the same. The same goes for Pele continuously fouled an injured, Do you have to be my age or older as she’s eight years just see how the game has changed since the Second World War the idiots who do not know what they are talking about try to compare but they just do not know. Everything is change composition of the ball the type of footwear amazing treatment footballers can now get with having so much money the ease of travel to different places and especially the state of the football field now there are like bowling greens but just watch George Best most of the time he’s covered in mud which tells you everything.
