In this excerpt, Carlin talks about the change in his act from a 'mainstream' television comic to the 'counterculture dean', with the dramatic changes in his standup persona occurring before millions on television. Listening to Carlin makes me feel so liberated. It makes me want to stop all of the boring everyday 9 to 5 shit in my life, and go chase a dream or something. I write stand up when I'm bored, but I haven't worked up the courage to get on stage. I guess I should; "just stop giving a shit". Right? Listen to myself.

Carlin is such an inspiration. I'm not going to pretend he is perfect, but his message is so clear and honest. That's something you don't find very often with celeberity's.

I am glad I was directed to this video. I had never seen it before. I am also glad I turned my son and daughter onto George Carlin. They both remember the Carnegie Hall Special well and can quote many lines from it. "Rice Krispies...Riding proudly in the milk" A whole colony. George Carlin remains awesome and a very great influence on me and my children.

I'm a writer and an artist, and I can tell you that when I finally started taking anti-depressants to combat my persistent depression, my creativity went out the window. I was like a zombie. I finally stopped taking the prozac and started smoking pot every day... honestly, I'm back to my old self and my depression is for the most part under control. Weed is actually very useful for self-medicating depression.

Carlin was unique in the way that he didn't strech anything. He always told us like it is. Sometimes it even seemed that he din't want to be funny, he wanted to open our eyes.

I discover him like 10 months ago.I have to admit that I've never heard of him before. And since the very moment, he caught my attention and I became a junky of his comedy and philosophy. I got the great honor of seeing him live on May 2 2008 at the Calvin Theater in Northampton MA. It feels like I lost a very dear friend.. I'm just immensely glad that I came along one of his HBO special by mere coincidence and got to see him perform live in less than a year.. Thanks George Carlin R.I.P buddy..

I love this...I have the whole 3 hour unedited interview downloaded and I burned it to DVD. he is a huge influence and inspiration to me as comedian as well as politically and philosophically. Neat that this sass on son December 17th 2007, which was the same date I had a comedic new anchor role in a middle school play...a great coincidence.

When you really listen to what the man is saying, you know he must never have stopped thinking, allways thinking things over, looking for more ways to attack touchy objects. Its a shame no-one will prelace the man, he will be missed.

He dug deep and made you think. His voice rang true and will reverberate for all time. Cheers that Carlin didn't fit and swam against the tides. May his doors of perception always remain open.

I can relate with George Carlin. To be rebellious and always have your very own opinion on things can really be a problem in some spheres of life like school, but in the end, that type of person like George Carlin for example, will be remembered as someone great, not just a fucking sheep like most people are, taking orders, never thinking for themselves.

Geroge Carlin was a brilliant comedian,who's specialty was A)Spotting contradictions in human behavior and society and B)Poking fun at inconsistencies in the way we express ourselves thru language,words and phrases. He was also a harsh social critic and he was an "Equal opportunity offender"---He took no political sides and supported no causes. I miss his brutal honesty and his hilarious cynicism.

I am not sad that he is gone, The fact that we lost one of the most briliant people on this round blue and green ball is sad. I have nothing but good memorys and respect for this man and he did the most amazing and memorable things ive ever seen. im just happy that he was able to make anything and open our eyes to feel how controlled we are.. This man is born a hero and he died a hero. Enjoy seeing the world go to shit!

George Carlin was a genius. He has been doing this since his college age days where he used to go from college to college with his preformance and his ability to pull on the "days" events enabled him to make comedy of what the "normal" people fell into line with. He will be missed.

it's so funny when people say "he's full of anger" and what not. he really wasn't (you can see by the interview) it's just his "act", sure he means what he says but he isn't always (as Kevin Smith put it) "he wasn't always doing his act, he was a guy you could talk to and have a conversation with"

Many Thanks to my colleague in Denver for introducing this great 'old fuck' to me (people from India don't know the George Carlins of this world). The guy has changed my thought and perspective. Many people can't still accept me, but atleast I like myself now. Frankly, I don't want another Carlin to be born. He is too good to be duplicated.

I'm a comic, and months ago, I did (IMHO) a brilliant joke that bashes religion, namely Catholics (I grew up Catholic). It was harsh, but funny. But my mistake was that I did it in a smallish city in Nebraska, right in the Bible belt. There was about a 45sec long "OOH!!" Comics know that 45sec feels years when you're not speaking. That was halfway through my 15 minutes, then the crowd went cold. That was my revelation that it's okay to stray from the pack. It's just location, location, location!

I always find it interesting that most people who are against anything have never engaged in what they're against; or never really gave it a chance. I've drank and smoked pot. I don't anymore, but the very experience changes your view because being drunk or high isn't what you'd think it would be like prior to the experience. Same with sex, breaking a bone, or any experience that alters what you normally think and feel it will by default change your attitude and perception.

my only regret is that i didnt stick around to get an autograph, or shake the man's hand. I saw George in 05-06'? in Baltimore...my date didnt get the jokes, and wanted to leave before traffic got bad(what a waste!)...Im very lucky that i got to see him live... ive still got the "2443 filthy words and phrases" poster on my wall...im still amazed at how many people dont watch/listen to george carlin stuff regularly! The man was a genius! fuck 911, ill never forget George Carlin!

@Rhythmmm123 It's so true. LSD has changed me for the better. I don't do it regularly. Maybe 3-4 times a year. I just see things differently on acid. The great thing is, when the acid wears off I still maintain those views I've discovered. It's not some illusion. LSD is the thinking man's drug.

It is really one once in a generation that the quintessential artist of his/her era emerge into the collective consciousness. Carlin goes beyond that. He was the comedian of my father's generation, and then he was the comedian of my own. It was an amazing thing watch an aging artist continually grow and expand even until his dying day. Inspirational.
