The energy he got when White Lightnin’ started playing was otherworldly. God let him have one more good show for the books before he took him home. I’ll never forget the day he died, one of maybe 5 times in my life I’ve cried so hard I couldn’t control it.

Thank you for uploading this! I live in Knoxville and heard about the concert only about an hour before start time. I raced downtown, bought a cheap ticket from a scalper, and made it in. My only time seeing George was his final performance and I'll never forget it. He may have been past his prime, but he was and always will be a legend.

I had the pleasure of meeting him on his Bus one night in Oklahoma City back in the late 80’s. He was a really nice guy and a great singer

This is the difference between the so called country singers that we have now. I'm just saying what happened to decades of country music? And why do these people call themselves country music singers? Walking in the sand wearing a pair of speedo's and drinking a sissy drink isn't country music. I'm saying that if you can't make it in Rock and roll don't sneak in the backdoor and pretend to be a country singer, Kenny, Garth and the rest of you guys that failed at Rock and roll. George thank you so much for giving your entire life to real country music. Your songs touched millions of people all over the world. Unfortunately today we have producers and others pushing junk mail down our throats and telling us it's the new country music, I say bullshit. I'd rather listen to Hank, George, the Hagg, Conway and the other REAL country music singers than listen to 5 seconds of junk mail. And to you young dudes and dudetts, don't let these people push this junk down your throats. Go listen to George Jones,or the Hagg or Alan. And if your eyes start watering up don't worry, it's called tears and that's normal sometimes especially when you're feeling what George Jones is signing about. You can thank me later. Your welcome.

George Jones is one of my top 3 favorites in country. I keep seeing people complaining about what's "real country" and that there are rules. I say you just like what you want to and what ever other people like is none of your business.
@jefferywilliams5878
@jefferywilliams5878 3 года назад
@@bouzoukiman5000 I agree110 percent but I don't agree with the industry and how they incorporated Pop Music and light rock and roll into the country music industry just to increase profits for failing Pop music artist. Several artist in the mid 80s and 90s singing Pop music weren't selling many records until the industry slowly started pushing their music as Country and Western music and paying millions of dollars to have these songs played on country music stations around the world. After several years of listening to this music and the increase in record sales lots of country music fans especially the younger generation that enjoyed Pop music started tuning in and slowly this was called country music. I grew up with country and western music. There's still a few stations that play real country music no Kenny Chesney and the other Pop music artist. To prove my point Kenny Chesney and others are still played on mixed music stations. No Jones or the Hag.

Love that you said he was the greatest country singer ever. I will only correct you by saying, he is the greatest singer period. Of any genre. We sure miss you old Possum. Your music carries on, in my household and many others. Semper Fi Mr. Jones, I was in the Marine Corps just like you.

I just happened up on this video and I see so many comments talking about he needed to settle down and give up touring. My cousin is that gentleman playing guitar to the right of him. All he really wants in life is to be a cowboy in Tennessee. He had toured enough he had retired and was doing that early. George came and asked him to come out of retirement to play for him. He played for George until he died and then went back on tour with Daryle singletary until he passed. Now he's back living his dream in Tennessee and I doubt he will ever tour again. It was a favor for a man we've all loved all of our lives.

I saw him in 2011 at the Webster MA Campground, a small venue. It was my 21st birthday and I’d always wanted to see GJ. My aunt who was quite the looker (like a dead ringer for Tammy LOL) got his attention after the show and introduced me to him, when I told him It was my 21st birthday he ordered me a beer.

+Curtis Fulwood I agree. But, he seemed to want to be where he was, so it comes down to what he wanted to do until he died. I think the old man wanted to do this. Good or bad, he wanted to be his stage version of him self, because the backstage personal self was just too much.

I see what you're saying (it made me somewhat sad too), but if he wanted to be there performing, then what the hell? It seemed like everyone (including George) was having a good time. His obligatory sobriety speech was classic too. You could tell from it that he really missed getting high. NTTAWWT

@@Kevin-vs6yf When they died. Johnny was 71 and George was 81. You can find both on RU-vid and George did look much better at 81 than Johnny at 71. I think that is what Elisha meant. Both were very hard on there bodies but I think Johnny was actually worse with the pills.
