George Jones performs "Tennessee Whiskey" live at the Farm Aid concert in Champaign, Illinois on September 22, 1985. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

His vocal range has always amazed me. He can take a one syllable word, change it into five syllables while hitting three different octaves and make you cry at the same time. George was the BEST!

Coe's version is the tops for me, the original layed the blueprint and he sounds like he is at the bottom of that bottle. It's just a good song though, George's version is considered the gold standard.

The first time I heard this song it was sung, in this original version, by Stanley Walker in Paducah, KY. That was back in the 1980s. Of course, I looked up the original version. Being an Illinoisan, this one is pretty special. Yes Chris Stapleton captured the song and his version has changed it forever, but this is the song it was written to be originally. Hard to believe this was almost 40 years ago. Written by Gary Gentry and Linda Hargrove.

Everybody loved George Jones and all the other country singers loved him to they knowed what a great singer he was he could not be beat,and I thought him and Ron Gaddis,was great together but NJ. had to mess that up.she knowed everyone loved Jones & Tammy and I know alot of these country singers could tell some good stories about how Jones,still loved Tammy.

Great rendition. That CLASSIC George Jones sound. But Chris Stapleton's rendition has an EPICness to it that this doesn't. This comes off as a GREAT "George Jones" song. Chris' has a generational EPICness...
