Lucas is a genius. An incredible storyteller. The way he forged the two trilogies together is quite amazing. George should be respected, not blamed for his Star Wars saga. People who hate the prequels don't understand the story he gave us. I have the utmost respect for this man and owe him a great deal. Thanks George, May the Force be with you, Always.....
I agree that he made a terrific trilogy of movies with the OT but even the best can mess up like he did with the prequels. Whether you people like it or not the prequels failed. Your fine to have your opinions and like the prequels but don't pretend to make people look stupid just because they expressed their frustration with Lucas' work.
@@joemorton9200 Good yes, but not on par with the Lucas era films. He was not given good direction in the scoring sessions by J.J. and Johnson. There's a reason you don't recognize all 156 of Williams' scores - they all aren't memorable the way the Spielberg and Lucas scores were.
“I realized I could do something no one else could” love this. Sums up anyone’s doubts and fears of pursuing their passions. If you believe it is something that you’re meant to do and you know for some reason whether it’s a divine, mythical or spiritual “force” than you need to complete it and finish the task.
+imbecilik totally agree with you, TFA had the same style but not the feel or soul to it in this throw away style over substance society we now live in.
It didn't even have the same style to me, only the same ships and stormtrooper costumes. The cinematography was ugly, the camera was constantly moving around the protagonist without reason. The sets looked like sets and the color grading was very generic, like every other STar Trek/ Transformers movie. TThe movie fails in every department.
Dave 101 Yea, but as +JarJarAbrams says, they took the surface style and recreated it, with some tweaks. What concerns me the most is that now Lucasfilm is run by a Producer, not a creative. And it shows.
Yeah, listen to Lucas talk then listen to JJ talk and you can tell his general process isn't nearly as deep. Lucas has a rich, vibrant universe in his head but obviously has difficulty bringing the stories out.
The Fumbo Muffin I'd rather have someone struggle to get the story out of themselves onto paper, then onto the screen. That's why I can't hate the prequels for all their faults. I think if he'd had more time to balance them a bit more I'd like them a lot more. They're very flawed but really good.
The man is a pure genius!!!! Thank you George Lucas for the real Star Wars saga,, episodes 1-6 and The Clone Wars!!!! You changed my life in many ways. I couldn't thank him enough!!!
@@miralabualjadail4206 All ideologies are brainwashing regardless of location. The secret to not being brainwashed is to be open to EVERYTHING and NEVER dedicate to any one thing!
@@Mike1Lawless by refusing everything you can also be brainwashed. Dont fool yourself. You should always be true to yourself, constantly question and follow what is the most reasonable to you.
@@miralabualjadail4206 Nah i didn't say to refuse everything, i said to be open to everything but never dedicate to any one thing. Once you're dedicated, you are brainwashed, your values have been manipulated and you've become ready to exploit. Manipulating and exploiting people's values to get them to do what you want, is what power really is in society. If someone values money, you can pay them to do stuff for you. If someone values a religion, you can tell them or imply as a leader of that religion, what you want is what god wants. Someone dumb enough will do it too. This goes for all the activism too. The leaders of those big activist groups have much better lives thanks to everyone else's support "to the cause". It's all just small groups of manipulative greedy people looking to better their own lives off the hard work of others. So i don't believe anything, just using imagination isn't enough. there are no limits and you can make anything fit your ideals. You have to do the work to get real answers.
I have a new deep profound respect for this man after this interview. I always assumed he was a money hungry sell out. shame on me lol. I guess he now has the high ground.
George is like most revolutionary visionaries and artists, who were not held in high regard during their time. But years from now after he's passed on, he will be remembered as being a great auteur who changed the medium of storytelling. His name will never be forgotten.
George Lucas has the unique distinction of being an artist who WAS appreciated in the '70s and '80s, then dismissed in the '90s and 2000s when he tried to make a comeback. His former vision was later regarded as passe. More than just entertainment in fictitious storytelling, George Lucas is making a direct comment on what's really happening in society and government right now! Selfishness reigns! There's pure ego and greed! Yeah, all employees of Lucasfilm could say that George is a slave driver, but he's also generous with money, and he doesn't demand anything from his employees that he wouldn't step in and do himself. This is more that can be said for society and governments. Where's the love? Where's the self-sacrifice for each other? Where's the teamwork, camaraderie, working together to grow collectively, create something greater than our individual selves? There's only me first, I have to step over you so that I can survive and succeed.
So many great quotes as ever that speak such truths. The one that really stood out to me was "being creative, having an imagination; basically you don’t work inside the box, you don’t like being in the box”. So, so true.
George Lucas is a positive force for change! He could've been merely a journalist, a documentarian, commenting on how bad things are (in fact, that's how he started his career in his student films at USC) but he chose to invent a whole ideology, that showed us how things can be better! We can be there for each other, care about each other and unite to overcome the greatest evils!
The prequels, especially Episode III, serve the purpose Lucas designed them for, to show how a democracy, the Republic, became a dictatorship, the Empire, and show how a good person, Anakin Skywalker, became a bad person, Darth Vader. His fear, of losing people he loved, which led to his greed, for power and desire to control the entire universe, are very relatable. Say what you will about Lucas' inability to write scene-to-scene dialogue, and his preference to direct the technical, camera, the editing, the visual FX, the sound, the use of music, rather than direct actors, but the themes of his movies, including the prequels, especially Episode III, are very strong.
This is my favorite comment...on this section...and it has been great comments in here... but yours is my favorite... thank you George Lucas deserves all the credit...
You’re right I discovered episode 3 on the spike channel on tv dude episode 3 is so profound for some reason as a child I was pulled towards the themes and dynamics of episode three especially the political atmosphere and parallels to the real world
That was inspirational. George we're sorry, please come back!! We should give him the love he deserves from now on. He was laying down some straight wisdom here.
@treebeard Because R1 was made by a fan of the prequels, or in other words, a fan of the saga that Lucas thought up, not just the look and feel of the OT.
Well, they're very different movies althogether. And I'm not sure Edwards is a huge fan of the prequels, they just had more prequel influence since it's the bridging movie
I think "haters" of the prequels didnt get any of his visions they are selfish like he said in the interview. Its pretty ironic that these people didnt get the message of being kind and so on at all and isntead they keep bashing for no reason.
szebike I agree with you! Even though the prequels weren't perfect, they still had interesting lore and ideas! That is why I don't hate those movies. For me, Star Wars will always be episodes 1-6.
12:21 “I only hope that those who have seen Star Wars recognize the emperor when they see him” I love you so much George Lucas. That statement is nothing but pure facts. Your franchise Star Wars is nothing more than a intellect booster for me. You have made me stronger than I ever was and I’m happy that the little uniqueness in me encouraged me to open up to Star Wars. Star Wars is more than a franchise it’s a religion. It’s a way of life. ONLY THE INTELLECTS LOVE STAR WARS
I believe the way George Lucas does. God deals with more love then hate, can't kill for God. We love George Lucas. GL you helped me a lot in my life. Good words.
He says all religions have taught us that God is love. Nope. That's specifically Christianity. In terms of positive influence VS negative influence, Christianity has had a massive positive influence, and is even the foundation for Western civilization as a whole, and is the source of some of the concepts we hold so dear, like that all humans are equal.
A person becomes moral by considering their actions, weighing the consequences, and deciding whether they are doing more harm than good to themselves and other people. People don't like to be hurt, and they usually recognize that other people getting hurt is a similarly undesirable thing. When people are in danger of being mistreated, they seek out protection through cooperation and relationships. Society is simply a much larger extension of those relationships.
i think what should be highlighted here is how they described both trilogies; the original covered a myth on spirituality and the prequel was the myth of political downfall. essentially everyone in the prequel trilogy is a chess piece except palpatine, and then the original trilogy shows what love can do
Nah man Rian and JJ. I don’t care whether you like the prequel trilogy or not but fuck every person out there who made fun of Lucas. All it proves is that they have no respect for the franchise. JJ and Rian has terrible aspects. No thought, Love, storytelling or character development
Excellent discussion. It is a shame, that the vast majority of people never really can think so deeply. But like we all know, they are that there own level, and to everyone, there level is the right level. Its one of the reasons, why kids growing up, need to be taught lessons, or stories, that teach them the road, to the light, or good. They need people to sow those seeds into them, when young. I totally agree with lucas, on how he was right to tell this story at that time, and the human race, does need to keep telling these stories, so every other generation, gets a message such as this, to sow those ideas into there minds. It must be very interesting, to hear people like lucas, and spielberg talk. Considering what they have learnt, and how they understand, things that most just do not. Like he said, being a repeater is not something that will teach you much. Although its a skill, that is important in the world we have, its not a skill, that will lead to being creative. To understand humans, you have to just know things others do not. For what ever reason, most people are repeaters, and just cannot think outside the box, or maybe are afraid too.
This really shows why Star Wars is as popular as it is . The deeper meanings and lessons that Star Wars holds while also showing them in an amusing way unlike Holy texts
I've always loved listening to Lucas. He is one of the few people I would love to just spend the afternoon talking about the world, Star Wars and Philosophy. I also wonder....did he vote for Trump....or Obama....or Hilary....he's a smart guy, so I think I know the answer.
He's the most important and influential person in the history of film. We don't have modern films looking the way they do without George Lucas. Hundreds if not thousands of people contributed to the work at ILM, but George was the guy who took the chance and believed in it enough to start it. He constantly pushed the box wider and wider until his outside the box thinking became the norm. Literally a 10/10 human being.
I have a lot of respect for George Lucas. Say what you want about the guy and his work, but at least he can look you in the eye and say, I did things my way, I created MY story, my own universe. And if the fans don't like it, well that's not my problem. He created stuff he enjoyed and made a fortune...how many of us can say that?
This is why anyone who uses Star Wars to justify insults, exclusion or any other kinds of cruelty can’t be called fans of the franchise, toxic or otherwise.
Although I have my disagreements with George Lucas, I must say he does an excellent job of storytelling and myth-making; his mythos about the Force is something Disney is doing its utmost to utterly *destroy*; they're replacing the Light Side and the Dark Side with this Grey Medium--it's like they're trying to get kids nowadays to live inside the coin instead of on either side of it! And Disney's storytelling? Terrible! TFA doesn't have any of the spirit Lucas' films were all imbued with.

Interesting, personally i always went though life like it was a mountain to climb. The higher i got the more uninterested i got. But lately i feel as if the heavens themselves opened up for me, things are getting much more interesting than ever before.
George is an absolute genious. Im sure he channels and sees into higher dimensions, thats how he can write such amazing and powerful material. He just dumbs it down for the general public. But its one thing to have visions and insight, but to put this into an amazing story is really incredible.
I have loved Star Wars for a while, especially the aspect of the Force. It absolutely fascinates me. It seems so real for me to a certain extent. I truly believe one could live life as a Jedi or Sith. Of course it’s not so black and white, but there are people in this world (and maybe others) who primarily use hate, pain, anger and power to fuel a lot of their decisions. Sometimes even willingly so. Same for love, compassion, happiness and empathy. Like Lucas said, all humans have these emotions and it is a daily battle between essentially good and evil. A Yin and Yang. The dark and the light. It is easier to lash out in anger, almost reactionary and even seductive to wish hate on those who have wronged you or simply disagree with you and your beliefs. But it takes great restraint and courage to acknowledge and nurture these emotions so they won’t control your thoughts and decisions. Much, much easier said than done. But I don’t think it’s supposed to be easy. That’s the weirdest thing about it. How easy it is to simply not give a damn about anything or anyone, to only serve one’s self, And how hard it is to be mindful of basically everything. But what do I know? I was born 20 years after the first movie came out, still very young in this confusing world. But in my short life the Force, God, Allah whatever you want to call it, has been there for me in my darkest times. I don’t know who will read this, but I wish you well. May the Force be with you all ❤️
I like his philosophical views. Maybe it’s not as bad as we think. He’s talking about accepting the reality of death and an ending. Everything ends so it’s better to accept that reality. Fighting it or worrying about it does you no good. It’s almost the Buddhist philosophy. All life is suffering, desire and want cause pain, and sometimes there’s joy or happiness but it’s fleeting. It doesn’t last. All things must pass. Change is constant. There’s nothing you can do about that. So just accept it and go with the flow. We are all floating down a river towards the River Styx.
Funny thing is, I think that he was trying to tell us that with Anakin: he couldn't let go of the people that he loved, he didn't want things to change, he did everything to prevent his loved ones from dying. That lead to him eventually killing his own love, and he eventually changed everything himself. Ironic...
I can truly respect him for all he has done ONLY AFTER listening to him talk about his life and accomplisments and vision. also he HATED hollywood, which is full of Witchs and warlocks.
