Georgia Farrell - Ep. 123 - Fruity Knitting

I'm sure I'm repeating other people, but the interview with Georgia Farrell was amazing, and her discussion of color was one of the most useful things I've seen in a long time--the way she really takes you into a particular pattern.

I've been admiring Georgia's work for quite some time, also bought both of her books. The geometrical style really speaks to me and her color combinations are amazing in their unexpected-ness. I will definitely knit some of her patterns. Thank you Andrea and Madeleine, once again, for a marvellous show! (Which I'm proud to be a patreon of).

I had to stop the episode at 20 minutes, to tell you once again, how much I enjoy the travel part of your free knitting episodes and the travel vlog! Hastings was beautiful and very interesting! You take me to places I’ll never go in my life and I love that, thanks again!

I was a patron of yours when you first started and you have always been my favorite knitting podcast. When Andrew passed, I couldn't watch anymore because of the sadness I felt not seeing him and you two together ..and selfishly, I admit it was too hard to see you and Madeline in so much pain. This is the first episode I have watched since Andrew died, and it was one of the best you've ever done. I know you just get better and better and it's so obvious how much love you put into the show. The show not only honors knitting and fiber arts around the world, but honors Andrew and his passion for fruity knitting, nature and his family. It's the greatest gift of love to him and all of us!! Thank you Andrea and Madeline. P.S. Georgia is now one of my favorite designers ..her brain is so beautiful and complex, her designs so unique yet incorporate ordinary objects ..and she is SO down to earth!!!

This is one of the best podcasts I have ever viewed, I found you back in 2016; I believe. You were away on a beautiful country cottage visit. I will say no more, except, I feel this is Number one or Number one of all the podcasts for professionalism. Oh yes, this is bursting with love.

I am Japanese and it is so nice to see Japanese books being inspirations for designers in other countries. It made a lot of sense when Georgia talked about color proportions, because we Japanese used to make bright colors pop on the collars and cuffs when wearing Kimonos(And there were suitable colors for each seasons and Japanese princesses in middle ages showed their taste and culture by which color they showed on the collar and cuffs!). Your videos are full of good ideas and inspirations! Thank you.

I usually don’t comment, and I’ve fallen way behind, but finally have time to catch up and am SO HAPPY that you interviewed Georgia Farrell! I fell in love with her Light design even before it was published, immediately purchased it, finally knit it last month, and I absolutely LOVE it! I also had the pleasure of meeting her last year at VKL NYC, and now I can’t wait to choose and knit another of her designs, especially after watching this interview. I absolutely love you both and am so grateful that you’ve continued Fruity Knitting even after the pain and tragedy of Andrew’s passing. I really appreciated M's discussion of fishes and ponds psychology. It's quite apparent that she will continue to be the perfect size of fish in just the right pond. I have a daughter of the same age who knits and I've had the pleasure of watching her learn. It reminds me of how much I too have learned because I am able to answer her questions and support her in her craft (well, most of the time). 10 years ago, I don't think I'd have been nearly as useful to her. Best to you both on working together. That's an excellent adventure.

How do you come up with such interesting, entertaining and INSPIRATIONAL content, each and every time, ladies?! And I do get some of that "little fish in a big pond" feeling looking at your FO's ... but in a good way! Thank you for a fascinating hour and nearly half of another!

What a fabulous episode! I was really impressed with Georgia Farrels designs. I usually don’t like geometric patterns, I prefer more organic ones, but Georgias use of color and texture combined with the patterns were just lovely. I especially liked ‘Lines’. I like to collect agates, and that design really called out to me, reminding me of the color banding in agates. Thank you so much for introducing me to another wonderful designer.

Love the designer and the process for creating the designs, making other possibilities. It provides help to jumpstart the creative process for each knitter/crocheter. As always a good, thoughtful podcast.

Ah your little fish big pond examples had me laughing because just today a friend called and asked me for help with a pattern I had never done, and I told my husband that friends think I know so much about knitting but whenever I had a questions which was about every day lol I called my sister. She passed away three months ago today and I have lost so much, not the leas of which is my big fish knitting friendly sis'. But being a big fish and then a little fish challenges me to learn more. Great program!

Loved both of your finished sweaters. I favorited that Corbis Sweater the minute I saw it on Ravelry. And I was one of Lily's testers for the Upwards Top. You both need to add your FO photos to Ravelry to help the designers sell their patterns. Both are outstanding. You always know exactly what colors look great on you. Oh Madeleine I feel you with that stockinette scarf :) My first real project was a scarf for my sister when I was around 8 or 9 and I created a big sausage scarf ;) but she wore it nevertheless. Also I am so excited for footage of Prince Edward Island! Currently reading Anne of Green Gables again and wishing I could travel there too!

Thanks for another inspiring episode! And just a little note to Madeline: I’m knitting i-cords with circular needles, too! I slip the stitched from the right needle to the left each row instead of moving them all the way along my 100cm cords, which also avoids having to drop the yarn. P.S. My mom did the stockinette scarf thing to me, too when I was a teenager and first learned to knit 😂. That accident put me off knitting for many years until I picked up knitting again last year and rekindled the knitting fire 🔥. I’m relieved to hear that you were able to save your friend with blocking!

When I see colour combinations I like I take a photo so I have a computer resource as well as a notebook with stuck in, drawn and painted colour combos that strike me. More importantly is how the colour works on your body and your mention of season colours works best. So if you apply colour combos with what suits your colour season will give you better personal results.

What a great episode. I really enjoyed the little fish big fish conversation. I am a pretty experienced knitter and recently added cross stitch to my hobbies. I started watching a whole new set of podcasts and have been watching a cross stitch professional with 40 years of teaching and stitching experience. She recently shared on her podcast that she started learning the game of bridge and joined a group in order to remind herself what it was like to be a learner (little fish!) rather than an expert (big fish). I really admired that approach!

I’m a little fish in a big knitting pond and I’m loving it. I get bored if I’m not challenged and the more I learn about what’s possible the more my mind is blown. I’ve been crocheting since I was a kid, taught by my mum. Crochet is great and can be so creative and free form, as my mother shows in her work but I’m more drawn to knitting at the moment.

strange experience, there were ads interspersed in today's video. Content is great as always! I like to knit while watching.
