@@thezeek2745 I fell in love with her stuff from the first singles and EPs, saw her open in a small 200 seat theater before the first album came out.... then the first album came out and I didn't like how much production there was. Basically stopped listening to the new stuff. But she keeps getting more and more famous. Now she's opening for taylor swift on an arena tour.
I was and then the first album came out. Stopped following her because the first album was (in my opinion) a sad departure from the EPs and singles. Guess I was wrong and she's popular now.
sita is always refreshing to me because i start to appreciate a new song every time. i may like punisher more, but sita is great for when i miss her old voice :)
listen to the first EP and her first singles. I don't know what she became, I didn't like the first album compared to the EP/singles so I stopped listening, and all of her modern fans are like "oh wow I can't believe phoebe bridgers sounds like phoebe bridgers"
@@MrEL91N Of course we can blame them, they create the demand that makes people like Phoebe make albums like Stranger In The Alps. Or we blame the producers? Anyway good for Phoebe. When I first saw her it was in a 200 seat theater opening for Conor Oberst before they did that collab project and before her first album. Now she's playing stadiums, opening for Taylor Swift. There's a lot more money in selling over produced pop music to kids than there is doing blood on the strings acoustic folk pop, even with a voice like phoebe. Maybe I'm just bitter, I fell in love with the singles and EPs and then many of my favorite parts of my favorite songs were so different on the album. Punisher is decent, but if it's gonna grow on my it hasn't yet.
I think a lot of songs (specifically Georgia and Chelsea) could’ve benefited from a more interesting and unique sound like this. I still love the studio versions of those songs, but they’re pretty boring in comparison to say Smoke Signals or Would You Rather
This version of Georgia might be my favorite song of all time. Still after all these years the line, "If I fix you. Will you hate me?" devastates me to no end. The idea of someone so broken, they'd resent you for such a kindness is something I've been on both ends of in my life.
If I may: to 'fix' someone is first off impossible, and 2nd is it the wrong idea altogether. Why not, instead, consider accepting them and being at their side to support them in their struggles as best as possible (with boundaries of course)?!
@@david_oliveira71 I do agree completely, in my experiences both instance only drew resentment despite how noble to cause might have been. Validation and support are infinitely better than trying to, "Fix someone." Granted, when I was clinically depressed and in and out of hospitals, my best friend reached out to me annoyingly so, I look back and am thankful for his efforts, despite how unworthy I felt of such attention at the time. I always drew a parallel to this lyric due to this, though yes a softer approach on his behalf would have been preferable, but hey, we were just teenagers at the time.
i really came into this video expecting a good, but less fine tuned performance than phoebes current stuff since this was from a while ago. but this is the best acoustic live performance ive ever seen. her head voice is amazing but her chest voice....holy shit
I’m going to one of her concerts in September and I AM taking a sign that says “phoebe please play Georgia red flannel version” don’t worry pharbz I’ll get us a new performance of this.
Georgia, Georgia, I love your son When he gets older, he might be the one He might be the one (Whoa) Georgia, Georgia, he has beautiful bones And he never lies or picks up his phone (Oh) And sometimes, in the pouring rain He'll fall in the mud and get back up again And if you find me Will you know me? Will you take me Or will you fall? (Fall) Here is my day plan, here's my new machine He is a fine new addition, so young and so clean So young and so clean He came up through the water without a sound With my back to the shoreline, I dreamt that he drowned I dreamt that he drowned (Whoa) And sometimes, when he looks at me I know that he needs you, you're all that he sees And if I breathe you Will it kill me? Will you have me Or watch me fall? If I fix you Will you hate me? And would you fuck this And let us fall? (Fall)
i think her exploration in instrumentals or whatevs made her prioritize the kind of,, volume??,, in her songs. like in sita she sang kinda loudly and the instrumentals were quiet and not too detailed when compared to punisher. idk if that makes sense
Very few songs give you an actual physical response. Her new stuff is still good, but this is by far the most powerful expression of Phoebe Bridgers. It's insanely amazing.
She still channels this kind of raw emotion, but I would be a liar if I said I didn't hope for her to do some new songs in this style. Busking and belting.
She is a total star, saw her last night in a small venue in Glasgow, Scotland. Truly magnificent. This gave me goosebumps, her voice is incredible live.
Lyrics for anyone who wants! :) Georgia, Georgia, I love your son And when he gets older, he might be the one He might be the one Georgia, Georgia, he has beautiful bones And he never lies or picks up his phone And sometimes in the pouring rain He'll fall in the mud and get back up again And if you find me Will you know me? I’m 36 and only recently discovered her earlier this year. I’ve never been bewitched by an artist like I have with her. If I could inject this song in my veins I would. I can barely listen to anyone else rn.
I'm 48 and have discovered her in 2019, but only because I knew of Conor Oberst, which gave me a chance to stumble upon her Better Oblivion project she did with him. She has been hugely influenced by Eliott Smith, whose music I sadly listened to very little, but I think what really draws me into her performances so much is that she has that passion, nuance, complexity and just this raw ache to her music which is what originally got me to listen to Kate Bush and Suzanne Vega when I was much younger. And I think she's very much a Kate Bush or Suzanne Vega of this generation, and I think most people don't yet realize just how good she is. I honestly think she's not even aware of it herself, and probably doesn't give herself enough credit, either, but she's solidly on the road of becoming one of the most amazing & influential songwriters of the 21st century. I love that outro ending on "Scott Street", and her vocals saying "Anyway, don't be a stranger" totally echo that sweet melancholy that Kate Bush was so good at channeling. She even sounds a bit like Kate in that part.
Phoebe before she got REAL sad. Love this version when she sang less distantly in a way, more emotionally direct. Punisher is a fantastic record tho. Love it all.
Wow. I listen to a lot of indie folk music and this is by far the best I've heard in a long while - the best i've heard since the likes of Daughter/Ben Howard. Keep on keeping on' Phoebe.
Thats a pretty big statement you've made. I fully disagree tho. Shes good but we've heard something like this a million times before, therefor -> not classified as indie
I'm sitting in a coffee shop waiting for my bus and I'm now covered in goosebumps. It's incredible to me that a single person can be so powerfully talented.
He vocal range is so crazy and for some reason all the album versoins and recent recordings she sings very low and monotone... especially this song, i think this is 100000 times better than what they ended up with on the Album.
Georgia is my favorite Phoebe song and this version definitely rivals the original.... I can see a whole movie play out in my head while I listen to this song
Saw her Sat in Vancouver, this was her (acoustic) encore, it was iconic. The whole show was like a spiritual experience, the vibe of the crowd singing along with her was 🤌
