My late father came around on his motor bike to our house for my 10th birthday to pick me up and he took me to Georgpie. It was hosing with rain but I didn’t care cause we were going on the norton. He wouldn’t tell me where we were going but out of all the presents and crap I don’t remember , I do remember this .... shows you it’s not about presents it’s about memories . RIP Dad
brought a tear to my eye watching this another day maybe in the cards who knows all i know is Georgie Pie will never die and when we bring it back we will be on top once again long live Georgie Pie
Hard case, that brings back some memories. The worst offender I remember was the hot apple pie with icecream on top. Alternating hardout brain freeze and agonising mouth burns all combined into a damned nice desert!
The kid in this video grew up on the North Shore, he was a dead set champion. CHristian someone I think>> Really good roller skater too back in the day from memory. classic
I remembered I began crying in late 2001 when we drove past one of the last - in Porirua. It had the newer logo, and it was slowly being converted into a McD's.
I loved Georgie Pie. I was so annoyed when McDonald's took them over. I only have fond memories of Georgie Pie. I remember that the one at Greenlane had the best playground.
Wow - that brings back memories. I wish GP would come back, but with everyone freaking out about the supposed obesity epidemic in NZ, I can't see it happening. :-(
@ChorCharm Also Mcd's intentions WERE to salvage the old GP's as 17 old Georgie Pies were converted into McD's and the remaining 15 of the properties were simply sold.
@ChorChar Slightly wrong there, the decision by Progressive's CEO not to support continued expansion (both locally and offshore) meant that the stores' profitability could not offset the high cost of the new factory and distribution centre. Offers by members of the Georgie Pie management team and other outside interested parties to work through options to buy the brand as a going concern were declined.
I remember the Georgie Pie in Napier. Don't think I ever ate there but it was still awesome. Kind of ironic that even tho the brand is owned by McD's, the one in napier converted to a burger king. Weird...
It was the 80's man, and the dairy industry was pumping; everything was cheesy. And what wasn't cheesy was acidwashed. And what wasn't acidwashed either had a digital display, a perm, or a bad moustache. Hot dang!
My eco teacher told us that it was because they bought a factory that was way too big for them and they were losing money by not using it to it's maximum compatibility.
ironically. at the 00:53 mark. the restaurant shot. someone is sitting down wearing a fantastic star-spangled sweater. then most of the GP restaurants we knew got turned into McD's.
I used to love the curry pie it was a $2 pie they took it away then bought it back. They had the pic of the $2 big pie and it was $2 but they resized it to the $1 pie pissed me off as a kid
I think if they still sell pies at the deli in food town they are the same recipe - good ol Georgie Pie maggot packs! Is the mum eating a salad too? That is way ahead of its time.
At a guess being in direct competition with other resturants, beverage & pie outlets that had the option to turn down a stiff drink in order to enjoy the family and company atmosphere at the Georgie Pie is possibly what caused the errors in the overall feel of the New Zealand pie market. I feel that Places like Burger Fuel have filled that economic dead zone.
mmm georgie pie, always burnt my tongue though. the parents are straight out of a stick flick tho look at the way the mum inserts the chip into her mouth hahaha
Yeah i miss the old Georgie pie.. mine got turned into a McDo****! i dare not say the name, for it will be considered Blasphemy! haha it sucked though, was invited to many B'Day parties at Georgie pie, SOOOoooo many good memories! R.I.P. Georgie Pie....
RIP, Georgie Pie, you are mourned. Frackin' *loathe* McChucks for what they did. How could you beat a $1 mince'n'cheese pie? Used to go to the out out in Pakuranga as it was closest - man that was a real treat when we were young'uns. While it's no GP, I have found that Jesters Pies are now quite good, albeit expensive.
Anyone want a GEORGIE PIE Sun Umbrella? Search for "GEORGIE PIE SUN UMBRELLA" on TradeMe A rare piece of kiwiana history! A real talking piece, this is an original GEORGIE PIE sun umbrella that was used in the outside dining area of the Palmerston North restaurant. It's in good condition. Apparently, most of these were thrown away in the Georgie Pie down fall, making this a rare find and great to use during summer! Happy bidding!!
I loved GP until I brought a $1 pie that had a huge hunk of fat in it ! , I guess you can't always get top quality for a dollar . Even so , I still want it back , its perfect to soak up a hard night on the steinys.
I use to go in the georgie pie rubbish bins when I was little after the movies and rip out the free pie voucher lmfao I did it infront of everyone didnt giv a fuk thought it was smart because Id get heaps of free pies
