Pavanesh, thank you so much for the quick overview of geosynchronous and geostationary orbits. I am an aspiring science-fiction writer, and I am creating a story, which looks forward to a time when geostationary satellites provide the basis for easier space travel. I think that, in the not-so-distant future, rockets will seem as outdated to our grandchildren as Ford Model T’s are to us. That’s because I foresee a time when geostationary satellites will provide easy access to orbit through space elevators! When I searched for videos on this idea, I found yours... and this is perfect and easy-to-understand for a “non-techie” guy like me. Thank you so much! If it’s OK, I would like to use your name for one of my characters in my story. If not, let me know... but regardless, keep making videos! And maybe with you help, I can learn more about integrating Science Fact into my Science Fiction! Please reply here, when you have time.

Explain the difference between polar orbit and sun synchronous polar orbit
@saif7623
@saif7623 Год назад
Both synchronous and stationary both are at rest with respect to earth so why synchronous appears at particular time only while stationary is visible all the time ?
@madhuvatsalya7945
@madhuvatsalya7945 6 лет назад
If both geo sycronus and stationary satellite take the same time to irbit the earth then both should appear stationary to the person watching it from the earth?? Why one is stationary an and other can be seen at a particular point of time.??
@bancSpaceTek
@bancSpaceTek 6 лет назад
It is because they travel in different path. For eg., if 2 cars are moving at same speed and same direction, a person in one car will find the other car to be stationary all the time. This is the case with geostationary satellite and earth (that is, it appears stationary). Geosynchronous take a different path to orbit, which makes in not travel in "same direction of earth" and thus will not appear to be stationary!
@saiprashanth4961
@saiprashanth4961 5 лет назад
It is because the axis of earths rotation and the axis of revolution of geosynchronous are different as its plane of revolution is not parallel to equator.

so its like satellite in geostationary orbit have same speed of that of earth (takes same 24 hrs as that of earth) and hence appears to be stationary to an observer -the statement makes sense but how come a satellite moving in geosynchronous orbit taking the same time of 24hrs as earth does but still does not appear to be stationary to an observer on contrary rather appears to be moving??? i guess the later does have a variable speed of rotation (not equal to that of earth ) unlike the former
@bancSpaceTek
@bancSpaceTek 5 лет назад
As stated in the video, the Geosynchronous satellites do not rotate in same direction as Earth hence they appear to be in motion from earth ! It sill rotates at same speed as earth.

It is not called one rotation around earth it is one revolution around earth. Rotation means spinning about its own axis correct it

Where to use rotation and revolution words
@bancSpaceTek
@bancSpaceTek 5 лет назад
Both words mean turn around something and sorry that they have not been used in their true sense in this video. The subtle difference between rotations and revolutions is as follows: When an object turns around an internal axis (like the Earth turns around its axis) it is called a rotation. When an object circles an external axis (like the Earth circles the sun) it is called a revolution.

3:26 is a Molniya orbit not tundra
@bancSpaceTek
@bancSpaceTek 6 лет назад
Yes, thanks for bringing it up. I used this image for representative purpose, (as mentioned in the video), as both have similar orbital inclination and because I couldn't find better image of tundra orbit. For people who don't know the difference, both Tunda and Molniya have similar orbital inclination of 63.4 but Tundra completes on rotation around earth in 24 hours while Molniya does one rotation around in earth in 12 hours!
@athrishpanthati1156
@athrishpanthati1156 5 лет назад
1:02 says 'Satellite in a geostationary orbit moves exactly with the same speed as earth' Wasn't that "angular velocity" ? If satellite is moving at a same speed of the earth then it won't complete its orbit in 24 hrs. FYI: Earth rotational speed is about 0.4 km/s and geostationary satellite speed is about 3 km/s source: www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Space_Transportation/Types_of_orbits
@bancSpaceTek
@bancSpaceTek 5 лет назад
I think I said "..same speed and direction as earth"...But yes you are right. I just wanted to use simple terms and the car example to explain the relative motion concept here as I seen some viewers getting confused with technical terms! Anyway thanks for the clarification!
