The dog is in the absolute best position possible with what ever his illness is. He will be taken care of to the fullest extent possible because of who his owner is and he deserves no less. I love to watch you guys and have the utmost respect for you. God bless you for all that you at Bondi vet and all other vets do for that matter. It just shows the kind of people you are and the kind of hearts you have. Thank you.

Losing one we love is tough. Many consider dogs as just "animals". But we fall in love with them at first sight; do our best do give them a great life, so when that time comes to say farewell to your BF it leaves a hole in your life

That sounds like such a hard decision to make. Your doggy waa well loved and cared for. That is the most any pet can get, so there is peace of mind knowing tou did your best. I had my cat euthanized last year after 20 years of companionship. It is a hard thing to do. But ultimately it is the final act of love.

I'm so sorry! I had 2 dogs for almost 16 years, then suddenly I lost Little Miss Saigon, she had a heart attack at 4:30 one morning and died at 7:15. One year later I lost my Kiyoko she was also a border collie like your baby. It's been so very hard to live without a dog now. I cannot have a dog where I am living now. There are 3 cats in the household and I thought it would be enough, but it's not the same at all. I wish you only the best for you and your sweet baby. May God bless you with many more hours together..

Finding this show was an absolute gift. I truly feel honoured to share in the lives of the veterinarians, the beautiful patients and their loving owners. Not to mention the humour and crazy Adventures. I was immediately invested in the regulars on the show. I just can't get enough. I've watched every available episode and I'm already starting to watch them again. The only unfortunate thing is I'm forced to recognize the inadequate that's that I have been seeing over the years.

So glad the news was good. It is hard to let go of someone that has been in your life for a long time. Even as a vet, I can imagine how helpless Gerardo feels. I lost my furangel in February 2020, just before lockdown. She would have turned 17 six weeks later and she had been in my life since she was 12 weeks old - a long time for just the two of us. Bubby had dementia and blind due to cataracts and was diagnosed with a stroke after taking her for her annual checkup. I never bought her home which was totally unexpected. So, when Gerardo said it may be Diesel’s last day, my heart broke for him. The bond between dog and owner can’t be broken, even after they leave us. RIP Shiek. Hoping Diesel recovers quickly. 😘💕🐕🐶

When Diesel walks at the end his body is up against Dr. Alex's legs. I wonder if he is a little bit blind and is using her as a guide? Dogs can compensate very well when they go blind. I had two very old dogs over the years that went blind and I didn't realize with either one for a while. One went to go on a walk as usual and ran into the door case.

Vestibular disease causes them to turn to the right....they lose their balance..so that may be why he's leaning....and tilting to the side into her leg.....its like vertigo in people..I was told it was deep in the inner ear...My GSD was much worse then Diesel..he started turning in circles and collapsed and couldn't stand or walk....for 3 weeks... He fully recovered tho!!
@thanrose
@thanrose 3 года назад
You can see the cataracts on Diesel's eyes. He sees movement and shadows to some degree. From the very start of the video I was wondering why two vets didn't know to encourage him to lean up against them when walking. He feels atilt, and leaning against Alex's legs is like a drunk leaning against a wall to walk home. Diesel would have preferred to lean against Gerardo's legs, I'd bet, but while recovering from this he will lean against walls or loved ones or furnishings. My BC cross was nearly 18 when she had vestibular disease off and on. I even stood next to her when she eliminated.

I’ve had Border Collies my whole life because I grew up on an English farm. We retire them at 8 years old, and they generally live until about 12, but a few years ago, we lost our 8 year old tri-colour, Flynn, 3 days after we retired him, from a GDV that we unfortunately caught too late. Border Collies are the smartest and most loyal dogs, and I think I’ll always have one.

My family and I lost a new puppy after only a week due to the neighbours placing poison on and around our property which is was also the same cause of 2 of our other dogs to pass away both on the same day prior to the pup we had for a week. I will always remember that pain that I had throughout all of the school day. Bc one passed in the morning and the feeling of getting home and doing hoping to hold the other but finding out she had passed that afternoon. It still destroys me to this day.

I had my wonderful Boston Terrier as my best friend for 11 years. He started to have seizures and was gone in 2 weeks. It all happened so fast. A few weeks later I got a puppy. I am glad I did, because exactly 3 months after my bostie boy died, our approx 13 year old mini beagle died. Such a horrible time for our family. A few weeks ago our 7 mos old pup got into pain killers. We caught it quickly and he has fully recovered. Pets are our family and we are very attached to them. I am so glad this deisel will be ok for a little while.

I lost 2 dogs within 3 months...One was a sudden stroke, he just never even woke up. The second was an apparent brain issue, seziers they couldn't get stopped, over night she just got worse and worse, couldn't even get up...partly conscious...was clear she was dying, almost certainly a brain tumor, and was now just crying, in spite of all they could do, obviously in pain, I will not let one suffer. I have 2 dogs left, one is blind, so she's with me in the apartment, doing great. The one I feel so sad for is now alone. All of them were together all their lives, were 10 and 11. Little bit, who is 60 lbs, so not little, is ok, but I hate that he's alone. I take the one in the apartment, Teensy, on a visit occasionally. Which they enjoy, but it's a huge pen, lots of dog - dug holes, so I have to watch that she doesn't get hurt since she's blind and little. Yes, I did think about another dog for company...he gets along fine with other dogs...but he's not young, about 11, and I don't want to see him get sick, and lose him, leaving the new one alone. My health is bad, so I would have to get an older, quieter one, which is another issue. When the other 2 died, I had all of them there together in the vet room, so they wouldn't just think their family member disappeared, if they realize their friend died, it's a little easier for them to accept. So glad your dog will be OK...losing 2 of my family so close together is HARD.

She had health check in October which it cam back really good, nothing wrong, then it turned dramtically after, the same vet in December was so shock, we believe she had a brain tumor at 11 years old (I am not a vet but I can tell if something is really bad) Glad diesel results came back good, hope he is well now, I’m from the uk and I watch the show

I understand the grief, and I hate losing a pet as they always seem harder to get over, even losing a close relative is not that hard. I only know that going from someone who follows you everywhere and just offers such constant love to then suddenly not being there is almost impossible to get over. The first dog I lost, a lab, I lost 21 years ago and there are still days that I will go to do something and look up expecting to see his face I guess because what I was doing reminded me, I do not really know but it very difficult. Its also very difficult for other pets when one is lost. We had two dogs when I lost my first, and my second dog just never understood why we suddenly rushed out to take our older dog on what, I guess the younger one surmised, was just a turn to go to the store, and when I did come home I came home without him and very upset. Our younger dog. a mastiff, knew I was upset but not what about and did his usual to offer comfort by we realized very quickly that he too was looking for his buddy who had been with him ever day since we brought him home at 8 weeks. He would watch out the window and take time smelling around the back yard looking for signs of him and after a week he started showing signs of depression. Our vet said he knew we probably were not ready but he really did not want to use medication but he though a new dog was the answer. He was afraid if we waited too long our dog would get to depressed to be too happy about a new mate and suggested that we not get a really young puppy but an older puppy, if of a large breed or one full grown who could handle becoming the sibling of a mastiff as play was what the mastiff needed. That was when we got our six month old lab/newfie mix and the change in our mastiff was evident within a day, he really needed a friend. We already had a new puppy in the house when we lost our Mastiff at age 15 but that time I took his buddy to the vets with him hoping hatht he would at least have some understanding and not be as confused as out mastiff was when we left with he buddy one day and did not bring him back. I did the same when the lab/newfie passed and that made it easier for the survivor both times. Sadly, because of Covid we have not been able to yet get a new dog to join the one we have left but given that, again due o Covid, she has not had a minute in the house alone and had someone to follow around or snuggle with or sleep on their feet under our desk, so I think that helped - almost too much as some days I think she wishes less people were around sometimes so she was not challenged with giving us at all the same amount of attention. Our youngest, currently only, dog is a border collie mix. She actually at the first of the year suddenly started having repeated balance problems and we went through all the tests possible to try and find out why, and as she is only 7 we were really think it was something bad as she was a bit young to have geriatric vestibular disease. Everything came out negative for any issues and basically we were left with the only thing there is no way to rule out which was vestibular disease. She was put on medication and got better and then had a few more episodes, and got better but it really seemed like the medication was not anywhere near as her vets expected. I am an acupuncturist and usually treat animals with pain issues, and muscular skeleton issues but we decided that it certainly might not hurt to try it. It was sort of hard to find any information where its been tried on canines either because no one has or no ones written much up on it, and to decide what points to use I had to use guides for treatment of humans with balance and vestibular issues, and convert the points to treat to what would be the same or similar nerve bundles on a canine. We had really good success and have kept it up even weaning her off her medication while continuing the acupuncture. Of course, it could be that she was about to get over it when we started and its all coincidence but after she has had the same length of treatment they do for humans we will stop and see what happens. If it returns we plan on trying the acupuncture first and may be have a better idea if it is therapeutic in these cases.
