My chest and stomach burn everyday even if I take in the Med ( pepcid) my doctor prescribed for me. At night, I sleep sound but in the day my chest and stomach burn throughout. I am currently taking Pepcid 20mg. I take 1 in the morning and 1 in the night before sleeping. I also carefully watch my diet. Is there any help?

I don't know if i got gerd but I feel scared eating anything because sometimes I feel severe cramps when I eat, I throw it up to feel better. It's very difficult doing anything, I cant run for more than a minute I feel winded. I don't know how long I've been feeling like this. I say maybe this specific feeling 4 months but this whole stomach problems 2 years I just can't afford to go to the doctor, I'm scared of going and getting rejected.

What if you got a pain between esophagus and stomach. (Les)

Aside from the diet, the best thing I've done for GERD is to buy an adjustable lifestyle bed and sleep in a sitting up position. At least now I can sleep through the night with the reflux waking me up all the time. I am diet adherent, and cannot tolerate the meds (they make me worse, not better). The reflux is worse at night vs the day. The only thing that I can think of is that while sleeping the nervous system is operating differently and the LES loses some tone (ie., it relaxes more). I read somewhere that the lower tone at night while sleeping may also occur because there is less swallowing. Terrible disease with poor QoL. I wonder if there is any research in this area, because the management options are considerably lacking.

I always quit eating at 6 PM every night and go to bed at 11 PM. I don't eat large meals at dinner and I don't have any caffeine after noon. I never drink alcohol and I don't smoke. I still have acid reflux. Anything I eat or drink in the morning (like tea or coffee) gives me A.R. right around 8:30 PM. and keeps affecting me all night.

I just want something that can help me. I have such a hard time sleeping. I have lots of chest discomfort and like a burning sensation.

I’m confused. I thought a weak valve was caused by weak stomach acid which then leaked up. When acid is at the correct PH the valve works correctly. Surely then taking PPI is treating the symptoms NOT fixing the problem?
