After watching both this and the Forde support science, I'm begging to think Sacred Stones has some of the most well written characters. I should play that game again.

As awkward as it would have been, I would have loved to see a support between Gerik and Garcia. It starts with him nervously examining his past enemy with Garcia not remembering why the "desert tiger", a famous man, would be cautious of him. The b support opens: Garcia: "Gerik..." Gerik: "..." Garcia: "Don't play daft with me... we both know what happened that day... and what the score is" Gerik: "And what if it's true?" Garcia: "... come to think of it, maybe it's not true. I paused the last time you stared me down because you confused me... your face looked so tense like the boy I knew on the battlefield all those years ago, yet the way you carried yourself was like a man I've never met before. Your so calm all the time that it's hard to catch the fear in your eyes unless you let it show... all that anyone can see is the man in front of them." Gerik: "Why did you let me live?" Garcia: "It would be pointless if you didn't find out the truth on your own...sleep on it a little, and only return when you can give me an answer. Legends get spread all the time, we're both proof of that. But legends tell nothing about what there really built upon, be it the weight of a real man or just another boy trying to prove something...and far too eager to loose it all. We'll find out which is the truth the next time we meet..." A Support: *Garcia drags him out to the woods after being approached again by Gerik so that they can discuss the answer Gerik is about to give...* Gerik: "..." Garcia: "... So, what answer do you have for me?" Gerik: "... I have none." Garcia: "For as wise as they say the desert tiger is... I'm amazed at how this turned out (*grabs his axe*). Perhaps, all those years ago, I really should have finished what I started (*a fight breaks out*)!" *The fighting is swift... neither has a clear advantage... until suddenly, with one smooth motion, Gerik knocks the axe right out of Garcia's hand after elbowing his wrist... his sword arm extends after the jab... and the edge of the blade stops right before Garcia's throat, Gerik barely having the discipline to stop just short of murdering him in self-defense* "Yes... that's it." Gerik: "?" Garcia: "That is the man I do not know... not the boy who has no value in his own life if it means achieving his dreams." Gerik: "..." Garcia: "I had no reason to not kill you that day. I was a sworn knight and I lived my vows to defend my country, my home, the people I loved... but before all that I had my life. If I didn't fight, not just to win but to also survive, it would have been a betrayal to all those who supported me... Maybe it was an order to leave or maybe when I saw you I didn't respect you by considering you an enemy at all. I could have gotten sloppy and missed the vitals on that face by an inch..." Gerik: "... So what am I to you now..." Garcia: "Your a fine man Gerik. The legends can boast about strength or muscles, but to a true warrior all you have to see is how they fight. You don't hesitate, but your not looking to get yourself killed like a young cat pretending to be a tiger. You have something to suffer for... and the way all your associates in the band flock to you, without a single command, is your real strength. That's all a real man is... and you got enough of that to be as strong as I was back in my youth. Don't go forgetting that. You can't be a good man if your dead now can you?" *Garcia walks slowly back to the camp laughing... Gerik just stands there watching him with a look of newfound understanding* Epilogue for A support: "After the war, Garcia sought out Gerik this time asking for aid in the restoration of his village paying him for his services. One day during the reconstruction an odd request came up. Gerik was asked to mentor Ross, a young adult in his own right, and to follow him on a new journey across the world. The confused Gerik paused but then smirked when he thought of why it came up. He simply laughed and said the old man didn't want his cub getting a fashionable scar like his - even if it might give him some female.admirers in the future. He accepted the offer traveling to many of the places he had once been this time not as the boy, but as the man. Fate brought all his old companions from his mercenary days back to him in what historians would refer to as a transformation into something new entirely, five times stronger than what it used to be at the peak of it's success. When Gerik passed of old age Ross, his second-in-command, became the new leader adopting the title of desert tiger... and on the very same day appointed Gerik's son as his new apprentice".

Sweet, I was hoping Gerik would get a spotlight. He's like the exact opposite of Peri. He's a mature individual with a virtuous nature. He makes everyone he interacts with better off for it. His character design has a clear purpose that fits his theme. The fact that he exists doesn't insult the plot and rest of the cast, and instead actually EXPANDS the player's sphere of influence in a positive way. He's just all-around fun. It's great. Where Peri ruins everything, Gerik excels and upholds.

I hate Ghast so much lmao. I would just be listening and Ghast using all this uppity and proper diction and then suddenly, "they be boys 4 life"

If Natasha marries Joshua and Marisa has her thing with Gerik, Jehenna is actually dope asf. Joshua, Marisa, Gerik, Ewan, and Tethys plus a giant ass group of mercenaries for the army. Nobody is fucking with that.

Your Support Science videos are so well written and they show how much of an analytical and associative mind you have. You are good at interpreting the support conversations in the context of a character´s story - thus giving us a feeling of a character´s purpose - and through your narratively sounding way of conveying your insights about a character (especially one as Gerik or Renault) you somehow manage to bring even more life to them, and that is simply fantastic, really enjoyable and interesting. Since you have that kind of emotional tactfulness, that allows you to get the feel of what is really going on inside of a character, it doesn´t just feel like you´re simply analysing the character. You did a great job at this support science video. Thumbs up :)

Ghast, I've gotta say that without a doubt you're my favorite RU-vidr. I've been around the channel for seemingly ages but what really pulled me in was your playthrough of Echoes. Even in the first episode, just seeing your positive attitude was enough to lock me to the channel. You've got a great mind and you're an awesome influence to all of your viewers, and for the record- we share an overwhelming love for Alm. Regardless, I wanted to request a support science for either Franz or Amelia, as they're my two favorite units in Fire Emblem. I think that having each other as a shoulder to lean on is great, and Amelia looking up to Duessel and finally learning more about her mother, or Franz and Forde's supports about their mother is just totally awesome. Sacred Stones produced some of the deepest characters the franchise has ever seen, and I think that the best two, in my opinion, deserve to be noted. The request aside, I figured you beyond deserved to get the recognition and praise. Keep up the great work Ghast, I'm a supporter to the end.

Gerik is probably the best merc in the series in personality. You can argue characters from Geneology and thracia but i haven't played those so they dont matter lol

Am I the only one who gets strong urges to go back and play the respective games of these characters whenever watching one of these vids?

Gerik was without question my favorite character going through Sacred Stones, and I killed off so many members of my party (post-endgame) just to get as much of his support conversations filled out as quickly as possible.

Gerik is daddy But seriously I can relate with him in a few things and seeing this makes me want to know more of him and help him Suck having feelings for fictional characters

Listening to all of this, taking in every detail of a unit I grew to love, not for his character, supports and personality, but for how he dominated the field. To hear his struggles, how hard he cares for everyone around him, makes me despise my first playthrough of Sacred Stones, because I didn't pair him with anyone. To me, he was just another pretty badass Mercenary, then eventually, a Hero. Definitely worthy of the title the promoted class holds, but it wasn't one he never asked for, never wanted, but he's stuck with it. When you look into the supports of Fire Emblem, it just makes you love the game even more, along with the characters. Even those that can be considered bad or flawed.

So Ghast x Gerik fanfiction and art when?

I'm seeing a lot of "Gerik is best mercenary" comments, but can we all just pay respect to Aias real quick (Celic's retainer)? Aias is like evil Gerik. He's wise and not overly ambitious, but instead of being forced into a mercenary life, Aias seems to want nothing more than to be a mercenary, only joining Grado to follow Celic. I always found him to be an interesting character because he feels like Gerik, except he never had the "luxury" of failure. Aias has never been hit because he's perfect, and he's old and experienced enough to be a wise leader, but because of this, he couldn't adapt to a losing situation and crumbles. It's interesting because Gerik is so wise because of his failures, Aias never failed before though and suffers from a catastrophic defeat because of it. Even if he escapes, Cerlic betrays him, and again, Aias is lost on what to do, because all he knew was victory.

Gerik is one of my favourite characters too, i love how we see so much of him in his supports, and how he becomes a role model to everyone around him

I think Gerick got more out of the events of Sacred Stones than most (as long as he gets a support). Most of the characters simply go back to what they were doing, or go down paths they had intended regardless of the game's events, but Gerik's whole life changes, and I think he cares more about the time he spent on the journey than anyone else.

Not only was this video a deep and detailed look into Gerik's character, but it ended simply. It ended like a structured thesis, succinct and without anything else to tie it down. No ending theme, no mention of the channel, no change of pace. It was simply... an ending. That it was I truly enjoy in a video. Gerik, my man! Arguably my favorite character in all of Fire Emblem. It took me realizing years later of the many, many playthroughs I've done. He's the only one I deployed whenever possible. As I got older, I grew to like his character more and more. This wonderful mercenary brings out my favorite side of some characters, such as the humanization of Marisa(Who was my fave during the playthroughs). If he joins Heroes, I'll try to +10 him in honor of this awesome support science and super bro. I did vote for him in both CYLs, out of ALL Fire Emblem characters(I don't do repeat votes, thats just rude). Made my week before going on vacation, thanks Ghast! Now that he's been done, uh... Crap too awestruck to pick another character, quick a distraction!

Man, SS just has such a good cast, and Gerik really fits in in an interesting way. Most characters you see join up either do it for a self interested reason, or just because they're overly nice. Gerik seems to combine these two reasons to make a motivation that is idealistic while making real sense. When it comes to characters that join just to help out of the goodness of their heart, I often question why they stick around to the end. It is often never addressed. With Gerik, there is just no question, and I think that's pretty cool.

Well, now that I've caught up on all your Support Science videos, feels like a great time to say THANK YOU FOR BEING BOTH POSITIVE AND CRITICAL! Far too often, especially with a lot of people I see in the FE community, there's either blind love or blind hate being thrown around under the guise of "critique" or "criticism." These videos do a great job of being analytical, not being afraid to state your opinions, but ultimately talking about the details themselves and not losing sight of the point. Also, Gerik is #1 role model for life.

Been watching back on these Support Sciences. I loved the Gerik Mercs, but god this makes me love it more. My favorite characters such as Garcia and Gilliam are from Sacred Stones. So when the Garcia and Gerik scrimmage came up I loved Gerik as much too. His personality too goes so well with his position and Thethys and Marisa. It keeps so natural between clashing persons. He feels like the ideal man to lookup to. He wants to live for others rather than live for himself and money. And Biceps. Swords and Biceps are always good

Currently in my Sacred Stones playthrough, I will now grind up Gerik thanks to this support science.

This is a really good analysis, Gerik is a great character! I loved using him in Sacred Stones, so I'm glad to see a video covering him!
