The biscuits are a food item only in disguise. In fact, they are a deadly weapon against the enemy, since you can kill someone if you can throw them hard enough...😂😂🍻🇩🇪🇺🇸
You wondered why there is no heating device and no cutlery contained in this 24h Pack. This is because the Bundeswehr Soldiers have got stainless steel cutlery Kits (called "Feldbesteck") as part of their personal equipment. The Feldbesteck is reusable and therefore quite sturdy and it consists of a knife, a fork, a spoon and a simple can opener. Also they are equipped with an Esbit Kocher (= reusable foldable fuel tablet cooker ...whereas Esbit is a german brand name for hexamine tablets)
So they still use the Esbit cooker? I was wondering, since the main meals are not in those flat aluminium packages anymore. How do you heat the meals-in-a-bag with that? Gruß aus Hamburg
@@Panbaneesha yes they still use it. The meals which come in a plastic bag will be put in a water filled canteen (which is also personal equipment to the soldier) and then heated on the esbit burner. But as you can read on Bundeswehr's HP, they are researching on a new way to heat meals, but haven't got any conclusion until now.
@@loganfive4478 I can see why the method with the water-filled pot wouldn't be perfect - probably very time and fuel consuming on the little cooker. Thank you for your answer.
These bags were a temporary solution from 2018 only. Before they were simple plain cardboard boxes, and now they are cardboard boxes again. But now they are bigger as the old ones, because they contain more stuff than they did when I was serving in the Bundeswehr. The type of the EPA only changes the two main menues, the rest is always the same on the types I to V. The types VI to XIV are called EPA light, because they are lightweight. The meals are partially freeze dried, so you need to add water to the meals themself. The EPA should provide you food for at least 24h. Usually they hold up a bit longer. A reusable Esbit stove, stainless steel utensils (fork, knife, spoon and a holder that serves as bottle and can opener) and an aluminium mess kit are part of the soldiers equipment provided when joining the Bundeswehr. Esbit fuel is provided by the supply NCO of the company. The old biscuits were nicknamed "armour plates". Good with the canned cheese spread, but also good in combination with the shoe polish to start a camp fire. The coffee in the old ones was nicknamed "the German neutron bomb, human dies and the cup remains intact". And the instant cold drinks were, and are again, exotic (multi-vitamin, with a some kind of orange flavour) and grapefruit. In the old ones was in addition always a can of pumpernickel bread. In the new ones is also a small bag, in the size of the coffee and tea package, with instant vegetable broth. Salt and pepper is all you get as spices in German EPA. The different types of regular EPA: I: Ravioli with with mushrooms in sauce // Indian rice casserole, dessert: semolina pudding with fruits II: Goulash with potatoes // Cevapi with rice or in alternative ravioli with mushroom in sauce, dessert: fruit cocktail in light syrup III: Hamburger (patty) in tomato sauce // south-american vegetable chili, dessert: semolina pudding with fruits IV: lentil stew with Mettwurst (same sausage type you had in the bean stew) // spiral noodles with ground meat in sauce V: Tortellini (pork stuffed) in tomato sauce // rice with turkey, calamaris and shrimps, dessert: fruit cocktail in light syrup.
Buddy your absolutely up there with the legendary Steve 1989 ! You definitely eat all your MREs and don’t waste food. I respect that very much. I hate seeing these other channels heat and open food only to waste it. I often think there is some hungry soldier out there that would eat everything cold. Your doing great 👍🏻
That Large Jiggely Piece is a Piece of Pork Bacon Fat :) Germans often add it into Bean Stews so the Fat of it is Cooked out into the Soup and thus improves the Taste :) Its Edible but many People also just Fish it out of the Soup afterwards as its main Purpose is to Improve the Soups Taste. Then again. In the Military I would assume its a Great Source of Fat. So throwing it out would be a bit of a waste.
Food tastes in Germany are very different between north and south, which is why the food ends up being on the bland side as the lowest common demoninator between polar opposites ends up being somewhat wood-flavoured. Where most Germans agree is the breakfast, which is why you found the breakfast selection more tasty.
When I was stationed in West Germany (I just dated myself), I found that the variation was even more fine than that. Lots of ppl tend to think German food is bland compared to say, French or Italian, cuisine. If you took the time to get off the beaten path, you could find some wonderful local food. I still love German food even to this day. ❤❤❤
@@dschoene57 No m8, these were made exclusively for that maneuver. Thats why theyre made by "economat des armees" believe it or not, but usually the germans make their own rations instead of the french.
@@meinnase You could be right, actually. EPAs came in cardboard boxes, not plastic pouches, but then, I served in the early 90s so things might have changed since then.
German hard cookies have an old German tradition of dual use. They are so hard because of their high fat content. Why? This also makes them very good long burn. German engineering is in everything!
I missed this one earlier, RR. My bad. I have tried the boxed version, but not the bag type. Plenty of good food still. Those lids will get you, I know, LOL. Solid components in this meal. I am glad you enjoyed the majority of items. Nicely done, Peace, John.
Hi! Great Review! The Dates on the outside of the Packaging are saying: Upper line: Packaged at November, 18th 2020 (181120) und the lower line says: MHD (Mindest Haltbarkeits Datum), which is the "Best before" Date. So, you've been absutely right! Best from Austria!
I just recently discovered the pleasures of pork liver pate. But, it tastes like the braunschweiger I grew up eating. Good stuff! Excellent on crackers or in a sandwich.
i cant belive there arent instructions for how much water in the coffee, the Bundeswehr has instructions/rules (ZDv 10/5) that Soliders have to automaticlly start swimming when water gets deeper then 1,2m and that they have to stop climbing when reaching the treetop, by< themselves.
"Disappointing." "Mediocre." "Kinda Bland." "Underseasoned." Aaah yes, the german cuisine I know and love. No village restaurant where I live probably could've done better.
Very nice review! The ration could definitely benefit from some pepper packages at least - German food usually comes out a bit bland because quite a good part of the pop (mostly north Germany) prefers it that way, but it gets really good when you add some more spices! Also, the sausages were honestly an absolute shame coming from the country of sausages...
@ 12:11 mirror me in reality „Wow that american MRE chili con carne is the most bland thing I‘ve ever had eaten besides of drywall“ Cheers - happy to see you like the european stuff. I was thinking about creating gourmet MRE‘s with batches of my homemade chili plus local austrian items that are awesome in their taste.
Tried to buy one of these and customs took all the meat out and left me jam and crackers,……. I guess i am safe now to eat healthy food at taco bell and burger king. Whew that was a close one, good job customs, Mre mountain wouldn’t refund very expensive mistake. Would have been fun to try
5:01 Even Steve doesn't get this right. We don't have much cane sugar over here, but mostly beet sugar. I definitely can taste the difference🤗 Try them side by side.
The mains appear the equivalent to the US mains. No FRHs. I guess they boil their mains? As always, outstanding review! Thank you for sharing. Blessings 🙏🏼👍🏼
In the Bundeswehr you have a reusable mess kit, containing a can for the food, spoon, fork, knive and can opener. In addition we also carry a little foldable stove with some solid fuel to heat your meals.
The date is the packaging date. Kaffeeweißer literally means coffee whitener or powdered milk. The Bundeswehr is issued with KFS, they’re pretty nice, I had a set.
I'm a little late but the date on the front Chargen means the packing ID and Verpackungsdatum is the date when the food/MRE was packed. expiration date = Verfallsdatum
Somehow most americans dont see the reason why the food is "bland" ...its the same reason why hospital food or retirement home food tastes bland. Some people have ti check their sodium intake. You cant cook for thousands of people, make it salty/spicy/hot and call it a day. What else do they give you salt/pepper/hotsauce packets (depending in ration) for..for the coffe or the oatmeal? So you get the basic DIY spicy kit. 😂
Pasta meat should never be chunky. Expecially in a MRE. You are in a war zone or in survival situation and the last thing you want is to have meat strands stuck between your teeth. Minced meat (ground meat) should be the only way in survival situations. Trying to pick the meat between your teeth and focusing on thinking don't go well together like chunky beef and strands in your teeth.
The one in plastics were only available temporarily because they had some issues with manufacturing their normal ones in cardboard. Also, these have been made/assembled in France. They will not be available anymore in the future.
The date on the package tells when it was packaged, not when it expires. The rations never had an expiration date, as they are theoretically should not spoil at all.
There's not even a dehydrated bratwurst you can rehydrate in there you couldn't even put any hydrated dehydrated do rehydrate sauerkraut are you kidding me no Brockeworst or anything hot dog even?
It always depends on the purpose of the mission. Depending where you are, you get better food. But it looks like it's pretty practical: Doesn't have to look good as long as you get enough for the whole day 🤔
“Nutty…creamy….crunchy….the combination of strong and light tastes…”. Dude, it’s an MRE, literally the bare minimum food to keep you alive in the field.
I wonder how the Prussians, WW1, WW2, and West-East Germans morale would have been if they had access to these MREs in the past. They go Koo Koo for Koko Puffs at the 4 coffees.
Don't know why this showed up in my feed, but looks like a direct ripoff of @Steve1989MREInfo's channel, even down to the metal tray. Very un-original.
You know that RU-vid doesn't like blood, even your own lol! If you ever acquire any liver pate that you can live without please pass it along to me, pate is ridiculously hard to find in here in the U.S.. Thanks brother!
