Tirpitz was hunted down like an illegal immigrant on a Trump golf course. Tirpitz succumbed by large bombs straddling her and at least 1 large bomb that penetrated the aft deck and blew up one of the aft turrets.

" The lonely Queen of the North." Norweigan nick name. Beautiful ship of the time. Sunk in 1944. Launched in 1939. Sister ship of the Bismarck. 1939-1941.

Absolute perfection 👌🏻 this will be great reference material for a model of Tirpitz I want to build later on as it’s one of my favourite battleships, either in 1/700 or in 1/350 if I have the space

Thank you Stefan! I am using the Kagero book as my main reference for building a 1/200 scale Tirpitz based on the Trumpeter Bismarck kit. I've also got the excellent book you did on Bismarck. Humble request: Could you produce a RU-vid video using these excellent computer generated models to highlight the differences between Bismarck and Tirpitz? You have a good like in the Tirpitz Kagero book...but a true visual "difference" video would be a HUGE help for my project.

Multiple times I was fooled into thinking it was a large museum model painted and lit in a museum and other times it seemed like a full size battleship. Bravo

@russg1801

Nope; the US sent USS South Dakota to the North Atlantic hoping to lure KMS Tirpitz into battle. SoDak mounted nine 16" guns; Tirpitz eight 15 in. Armor protection on the SD class was quite good; an upgrade from the preceding NC class. They weren't worried about SoDak being overmatched. Radar and range-finding capability would have been equal or better than German technology, which admittedly had proven to be darn good against Hood.

They couldn't outfight a Nelson from 1928, let alone most WWII battleships, despite being 10,000t heavier.

@@dubsy1026 - If you are referring to the 'final battle' between the Bismarck and the Royal Navy, please note that there wasn't just the Rodney, but a second battleship, the King George V, two heavy cruisers, (19 x 16" /14" & 16 x 8"), one light cruiser and seven destroyers confronting the Bismarck, (8 x 15") which was also unable to maneuver correctly, thus continuously putting off her aim. When three days earlier, she fought ONLY against the Hood and the Prince of Wales, (supported by one heavy cruiser), the Bismarck kicked some Royal Navy arses. And she could easily have sunk both RN battleships but for the stupidity of Admiral Lütjens, who overruled his captain's proposal, Lindemann, who wished to pursue the fleeing PoW, (which by that time was having trouble to operate both 'A' and 'Y' turrets!). And referring to another comment, by Spring 1944, the Bismarck's sister ship Tirpitz, had her radar suite enhanced with state of the art equipment which was in no way inferior to Allied sets.

Hello, All your 3D models look way too good! This Tirpitz is very beautiful, and all the colors are just perfect... Very realistic and not overdone weathering, too. This would be very helpful for my 1/350 Tirpitz model I am working on, and as well as being useful this 3D model also points out many flaws in my build. One question: How do you get all the information to create such good models? Tirpitz, for example, lacks good photos and is not as well researched as Bismarck, in my opinion, so I'd like to know how you do it. More great ships are waiting your skill, and I will be following your future models with great interest:) Cheers!

I bought a Lindberg Kit... Pretty disappointed with all the shaving trimming and mold stems when parts R cut from the form runners. It also barely resembles the Tirpitz in this video. Alot of the parts R very ill fits.... I am actually hand brush painting my model from actual pictures my grand father took of the thing when he was Pilot in WWII he flew over the ship in B17 somewhere near the Baltic sea they were on their return from some secret bombing mission he said they bombed a weapons factory hidden inside a mountain somewhere. I forget where. But the super structure was more a ghost or machinery gray color it had no camo paint whatsoever on the bridge main structure. It was mostly flat black on top. The guns were black gray and brown camo colors too. The bottom of the hull is all flat black. The bow was a high gloss on the front bottom area of the bow. He said that was so people noticed it was refit with torpedo tubes and the photos do show that. My grand father said they pics from about 3 miles away with a top secret camera system made by Western Electric and Kodak... The anchors were also painted high glossy Red and yellow for some reasons. Someone told me that was so they could watch the anchor sink see it in certain shallow waters so their little boats would not run into it as well when it was hanging over the side. He also the Torpitz was built before they invented the bulbous break water bow and the syncronized double gyro. Which a ship of its size needed. So in rough water they would lower and drag these huge anchors in order to keep the bow from pitching up in rough waters so therefore the anchor were painted with high visibility colors and since flores Orange had yet to be invented they used bright red and yellow in WWII... Neat fact I didn't know of he told me that.

Not really. Most navies were using higher velocity 15 or 16 inch guns. Even the RN's KGV class ships fired a heavier broadside and a lot faster with 10 x 14 inch weapons. Prince of Wales got 19 salvoes off against Bismarck at the Denmark Straight. These ships should have been fitted with 3 triple 16 inch guns and dual purpose secondary armament.

Tirpitz had more AA (20 mm flak vierling ) a enlarged catapult deck, the Crane was placed next to the funnel on the catapult deck and it had torpedoes what was very unique to use on a battleship.
