Love German shepherds but I would have to disagree with this breed being a top choice for first time dog owners. Very smart, seen plenty that try being the "alpha" or being strong willed. Have had plenty of people come in with a very misbehaved dog because it doesn't want to listen to them. Of course I say it's the owners fault but the breed does have to do a bit with it. Amazing dogs, especially for those that know how to handle them. Intelligent, loyal and plenty of energy.

What you described is all caused by a bad owner. The owner must be the alpha and establish the rules. Same with parents and children.

So true. I have a 12 year old male, had him and trained him since he was 4 months old. And sometimes he still tries to push me around for that alpha position. Very intelligent but stubborn. Still is my top choice of dog breeds. Great dogs!

Picked up a senior rescue shepard. She was an absolute gem of a dog with a wonderful temperament. Though she could be a little a-hole at times, I never regretted adopting her -- or any of my other dogs -- for a single second. I have to agree that GS's are not a great choice for first time owners, especially ones with kids. They can be a handful.

Yes, it’s true. You will never regret having a GSD come into your life. I was own by a GSD for 7 of the happiest years of my life. We were never separated, from the time I picked him up at 7 years old until he passed away at 14. He was the most loyal doggo I have ever had the pleasure of their companionship. If, I were not 65 years old, and just serving cancer treatments, I would seek out another GSD.

@@hanaan8789shampooing and a good brushing regularly and they will appreciate a good brushing as often as you want to give it (in my experience). Get a good brush that will pull out the loose undercoat fur as well as the top (one of the best investments I ever made) and be prepared to sweep and vacuum regularly.

I've always had German shepherd's in my life since I was 13 years old. My grandad got me my first shepherd for my 13th birthday. Never been without one. As the video says the are a great breed of dog. Always tried to get rescue one's. Even had them at our wedding. Our daughter has grew up with them 2 and my 2 sisters kids and grandkids have all grew up with my dogs. My female misty loves the kids that go to the primary school that we live beside. The teachers and the janitor know the both of them Odin and misty...Odin loves playing with the boys with a football ⚽️. And misty loves just following all the kids. And you. Never get an ugly German shepherd. Beautiful dog. I am biased ofcourse lol.sorry for the rant guys. Love from Glasgow Scotland.xx.

I would personally not reccomend a German Shepard for first time owner's. For a first time owner's I would reccomend a golden or Labrador retriever. However I agree that they are a very playful and smart breed. I have one and they are very energetic and playful.

One of the best breeds for families. When you consider all that the pet can bring to you and what you are required to care for your pet, They have to be in the top 5 for sure. On this clip, the puppy pictures are so hilarious and heart warming. Those ears just make you have to love them.

My parents bought me a Shepherd for my 17th birthday, because I was suffering from horrible anxiety! I'm 27 now and she is 10. She has transformed our lives so wonderfully and we love her so much! Have had many other dogs and I have to say there are no dogs like GSD. Very special and extremely loyal, loving and smart! What I like the most about them is they can be protective but also goofy around family; they can be very active outside but also chill and relaxed when home. Just a perfect all-around dog that is very adaptable to any situation!

I used to raise and train and hunt coon hounds for hunting. So I've been around a lot of dogs. But now that I have a German Shepherd they are far superior to any breed I've even been around. Everything you are saying about them is so right on. Mine doesn't even want my wife to hug me as he's very protective of me. I love him very much and he knows it.

I had a beautiful girl years ago and I had a huge yard but no fence and lived in the city. I trained her to stay in her yard while I went to work. I trained her to pee on command and do all the usual tricks. They are crazy smart dogs. I miss her

Left out the bit where lots of German shepherds (at least from America) have anxiety and a timid nature, making extreme socialization crucial if you don't want a dog that's going to get scared/defensive/territorial and bite someone or something

@@alivekicking6247 yeah, backyard breeding and puppy mills are a serious problem. they create unhealthy, mentally unstable dogs. that's why it's crucial to get a GSD (or any other type of dog) from a reputable breeder that breeds for good health and a sound temperament. a well-bred GSD is not timid or anxious. they may be suspicious but they have a strong character. they are made to do difficult and often stressful work, so they need to be steady, strong, and brave.

I've had 2 gsds that we adopted from first time dog owners. They got a lot more puppy than they bargained for. Both were left with problem behaviors that were very hard to retrain. If you don't have 2 years to have a gsd puppy take over your life, don't get one! After that 2 years of training and work, you'll have the best dog of your life! Totally worth it!

My first dog was a German Shepard. I've never owned a dog as wonderful, for every possible reason. But as loving as they may be to their owners, heaven help anyone who they may perceive as a threat.

Beautiful dogs...i can tell you that i took a full bite from an adult shepherd when i was 5...i walked up to the dog while it was eating outside... He gave me growling warnings but i was 5 and i wanted to pet him... Next thing i know he bit me hard and deep on my left thigh...i screamed " bloody murder!" The owner came out and saved me... To this day, 40 year later, i can truly say, it was the sharpest, worst pain I've ever experienced! I'll never forget it. It was my fault though. But beautiful doggies they are.

So true only dog breed I will have. They're goofy too at times but great with kids, other animals and are obedient. They'll be your best friend ❤

My German shepherd is such a little stinker. She likes to play keep away. She'll come up to you with a toy drooping out of her mouth and then yank it away when you when you reach for it. If you slowly reach for it she will match your speed and slowly move her head away, if you reach for it fast she'll move away fast. Sometimes she'll drop it on the ground in front of you and then stare at you while standing over it, almost as if she's goading you into trying to take it So you go to reach for it and she'll snatch it away and prance around with it for a few seconds to rub it in that she got it before dropping it in front of you again. She loves it when you chase her to try to get it back. She's such a goofball. I love her so much

I had to wait 55years to get my German Shepherd. Mom and dad raised them when I was a kid. It was hard when our family black lab died, took 12 years before my wife went and brought our little girl home. I guess we waited for the perfect one. She is the best.

I love German Shepherds. I have a white one with a little cream on his back... He is German Shepherd/Husky... both parents were that. Mama was pure white with her ears up. Dad was more a cream color, and hus ears are down... he is such a good boy, and listens to me... 🥰
