Wow in 1979 a raw rookie 20 year old dj from Bristol i came to West Germany, infact i ended up in Wolfsburg in 2 discos The kings korner And The london Pub on the porschestrassa. I absolutely loved my time there. I met a beautiful girl a double for the blonde in Abba. Simone Naumann or Neumann. Beautiful girl. Still think of her to this day. ❣❣Thank you so much for these beautiful memories. Kudos my friend..👏👏👏👏👏👏
Take it if you can: from Kelly Family to Frank Zappa and back to Karel Gott...........It all just whetted my appetite for the 80s on German lists......but today my credit goes to 2:56, a hidden gem of early synthpop and a proof how versatile Ms Faithful was. Thanks Francis, you passion is praiseworthy....
I thought I'd knew almost every song that hit the charts in Germany in the 80s but I was wrong. I only know the Top 40 from 1981-1989 because it was listed in the Bravo magazine. Still so much to discover, I'm looking forward to it...
Merci beaucoup Francis. You know it I'll wait for 1980 German chart. Its amazing chart compilation. Pink Floyd, Abba, Styx Boney M, A La Carte, Cliff Richard and Secret Service is my favourites on this video. Thank you very much! Now I wait for your next 1981 compilation. A great year of music. ✌️❤️
To be real, you are the only one shedding tears. Why? Because we have different tastes than you. Why cry? Because the current state is making you feel old and out of touch, so you want to find any excuse to hate? Grow up. It’s your taste, anyways. It doesn’t mean the current German pop music is a sad state.
Hey my dear it's a pleasure to meet you here, I think you've got a beautiful smile on your face. may i ask if those are your natural hair and if yes it's cute, hopefully we could be friends and get to know each other better..... where are you from?
6:15 (West) German entry to the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest (ESC). The clip is from the live broadcast of the contest. Katja finished 2nd behind Ireland's Johnny Logan, who performed Shay Healy's *What's another year" -- see 8:48). The German song was penned by Ralph Siegel and Bernd Meinunger, who also wrote the 1982 German winner (Nicole with "Ein bißchen Frieden"). 😎😎 8:12 Danish singer Gitte Hænning recorded a German version ("Freu dich bloß nicht zu früh" -- see 13:01), and in 1982 one in her native Danish; "Ta' det grin af dit fjæs". 🙂 9:30 Italian entry to the 1980 ESC. The clip is from the live broadcast of the contest. The song finished 6th. 🙂
Thank you so much for another great German chart flashback! Interesting to see that many great songs and a lot of trash were side by side in the charts! My personal faves are 'Boat on the River', 'And the Beat Goes On', 'What's Another Year', 'Working My Way Back to You', 'Xanadu', 'Over You', 'Shandi', 'The Winner Takes It All', 'Woman in Love' and 'Super Trouper'.
Wow, what an absolutely bonkers chart! Love on the rocks by Neil Diamond only got to number 70! Some crazy chart positions there. Thanks for the video, love it!
The qualities are divering extremely! For instance, Robert Palmer, Donna Summer, Styx etc. maximum superbe!!! Andy Gibb Desire, and some of the mentioned maximum underground!!!

Thank you for the journey back, when I was 12 years old. My favourite consciously heard songs back then were: 1. Weekend - Earth & Fire 2. Indian reservation - O.R.S (bought me on single) 3. Boat on the river - Styx 4. Funkytown - Lips Inc. 5. Another brick in the wall (II) - Pink Floyd 6. Wolkenreise - Eroc 7. Xanadu - Olivia Newton-John & E.L.O. 8. The winner takes it all - ABBA 9. Timm's Thema - Christian Bruhn 10. Rock hard - Suzi Quatro 11. Call me - Blondie 12. Midnight dynamos - Matchbox
Can't believe German TV can get away with a sexy bikini clad hottie wearing a Native American headdress. That would be struck down hard as cultural appropriation in today's climate
Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Brothers Johnson, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, Kool and the Gang, Electric Light Orchestra, Elton John, Queen, Styx, Abba, Michael Jackson, The Korgis, Bob Marley, Diana Ross, Cliff Richard, AC DC, Kate Bush, Robert Palmer, Leo Sayer, Stevie Wonder, Status Quo, The Police, Supertramp, Dire Straits, Alan Parsons Project, Rod Stewart, David Bowie, JohnLennon, Barclay James Harvest, Hot Chocolate ... great artists. ❤
Regarding SHEILA Spacer , do we know if 12" singles were taken into account in the German chart ? by then Carrere used to produce many 12" singles ...It probably explains the rather low placing of Spacer in the UK too...Those were the days !
Born 1968, I was 11/12 y old at the time. I remember about half of the songs, some of them I couldn't get enough... But there are some strange one's in this list where I wonder how in Earth they had made it into the tops... otherwise very funny to see the costumes, hair styles, stages from that time ...
Thanks for the compliment. The video 1985 charting songs France is made : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lFt40-lPZtE.html. For Germany, in several days.
Good evening sir A song came, its name and singer's I do not remember, in the 80s, that song was like the song of Billy Ocean, the music was also the same whose name was the song on Caribbean Queen in a different language, if you know that singer's name or If you can tell the name of the song, then thank you
Thanks for the effort. 1980 had been a really devastating year in German Charts. What a mediocre stuff, tired and uninspired. But maybe one reason for the (short) rise of Neue Deutsche Welle some 1-2 years later? And: The real 80s pop music heaven started then and every week the Formula One TV Show was full to the hilt with great songs and music.
I’m SO confused by this. Does anyone know how these are ordered? Is it top radio play each week of the year or a run down of the whole years radio play? Is it least to most listened to? I’m so confused.
Some really Cool Songs Save our Faces! 😄👍Some are Embarrassing! But I think in majority there was an Higher Standart in Melodic Quality and Diversity than today. Germany was a Big and Very important Market for Music Back then. USA, Uk, Netherlands, Germany, Japan were the most important Markets. Mmmmh Rappers Delight, Michael Jackson Rock with You, Queen, Frank Zappa.....so we Germans know totally Good and Relevant Stuff.
Please remind, vid contents successful songs in the West German Top 100 only! So there were very seldom East German hits. Exceptions as far as i know: 12:07 (everything) + 24:19 ONLY composition and lyrics, "Karat" obviously didn't get into the Top 100. 🙂
Hi Francis, I really love your videos. Do you have any information about this 80s unknown song recorded in Germany? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zPGf4liO-KQ.html A lot of people have been looking for the name for a few years, but nobody has been able to identify it. Maybe someone in your audience will recognize it as well. Thank you for your time. For more context about the song: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Most_Mysterious_Song_on_the_Internet Tape with the original song: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u9ntj47WKdY.html
I remember that the music of the eighties was bad, but the truth is, it was even worse. .. Truck stop, Freddy Quinn ( Vollkommen hüftsteif) , Gottschalk, The Teens, Peter Alexander etc. Just a few good Artists. Zappa, Genesis, Pink Floyd, some good Black Music acts etc
