It had went to hell before that but I lived near the intersection of 69th & Western Avenue so it got worse on the East end of the neighborhood first & of course there are some pockets that look better than others in the neighborhood. My block had alot of thriving businesses of which are no longer there & it looks like a ghost town. Wasn’t easy raising young Children there either cuz they couldn’t go outside to play. Too many gang shootings, one of which was right in front of the house I lived in.
It's a vibrant neighborhood. Many small businesses, a Greek restaurant, Pete's Market, 4 Barber shops, a fitness gym, in a 2-block radius of Kedzie & 59th Streets.
I believe the Wild Chicago show this was aired on was in the early to mid 90's, a few years after Ben Hollis left he show. I had a few shows on some saved VHS tapes (now long gone) and decided to post this to my channel since I saw nothing about Gerte's online at the time.
Yeah not familiar with the wood store now, but earlier this year it was a cell phone place and a woman and her young boy was shot there (drive-by I think). This was around August...
