Wow Father, thank you so much for this series. I’m watching it for the second time because I want to remember everything. I am still in RCIA and there are so many gestures out there. Thank you for clarifying ; I love the dance analogy! You have to get beyond learning the rules and the steps so you can really soar and connect yourself to God.
Good luck with the RCIA. Only as accurate as the instructors. Do much more research on your own afterwards to further your faith. I recommend the TLM as they have fewer improvisations than the Novus Ordo. When in doubt, go with the more reverent, more solemn, more silent practices. The sign of the cross is ALWAYS appropriate. Kneel to receive Our Lord on your tongue WITHOUT EXCEPTION. Ever. Ever. By the way, if your parish is delaying your Baptism, switch to a more faithful parish that will expedite this particular sacrament. You may die at any time. You need baptized STAT. God bless you and your future reward. Orémus.
Thank you so much for the explanation!!! On the other hand it is sad this is not been teaching at all in when we were kids and now we se the consequences of the big ignorance we have during the celebración in mass. It will be great to convócate an emergency Re-teaching for ALL Catholics to do it the right way. This way we can enjoy more mass.
Wonderful! I was not aware of all of your information. Gestures during Mass is of upmost importance, since our physical movements affect our minds and hearts. Old Testament History shows how much God CARES about the details of worship.
I've always wondered why most priests have let these gestures by the lay parishoners slide. Ive always felt uncomfortable with gestures as well as mimicking the priests gesture during the Our Father. Holding hands as well. I haven't participated in that and COVID-19 has put an end to it for many.
Holding hands was introduced by Protestants joining the Catholic Church and missing the sense of "community" seen in their prior churches. That creates the horizontalism not the appropriate verticalism which is the correct direction of Holy Mass.
I also feel uncomfortable when the lay faithful and even the lay ministers mimic the hand gesture of the celebraant priest during the " Our Father " prayer.
@@michelelindseth8250as a ex Protestant I believe the mistake is when priests tell them that they can hang on to some of their Protestant beliefs! I believe we must forsake all Protestant beliefs that are different from the RC beliefs!! Forsake all to follow Christ is what Jesus taught.
When I can back to Mass after 30 years, so much was different I had no idea what to do. I started studying the rubrics to find out. I also found out how much was being done incorrectly.
Monkey see monkey do 😅 I’m a convert so I kinda just followed along with everyone. I wish they taught this in my RCIA class!! Love your information and passion thank you father 🙏
Thank you!! More priests should bring this up in their homilies from time to time. On a side note he looks a little like the actor Max Martini, look him up.
Beautiful thank you Father may God bless you I would like to ask a question if I may after receiving communion how long can I stay kneeling as at the church I go to I am allowed to receive on the tongue while kneeling and I also pray till the priest say let’s us pray then I stand is this wrong Father thank you
Thank you Father. I chose to wear a church Veil as a gesture of reverence and modesty in the presence of God. Im the only one that wears the Veil...it does ot bother me as I do it for God. Would that be creating a spectacle and distraction of other parishioners?
This is a great example of how the bogus oreo confuses the actual rubrics/instructions. Several points in this video where what the supposed priest is saying makes no sense. This wasn’t a thing 70 years ago. We’ll have our home again!!
Nice show of gestures and postures. The Indian philosophers of Advaita have a very elaborate set of gestures and postures, more entertaining than their words. That my mind was indoctrinated into the idea of God does not mean that it is on my side.
Yes yes yes! Thank you father! This is so good-really wish more priests would spell this out. I really don't understand WHY people have started doing these things at Mass. Seems since the revised Missal of 2011 came out replacing "and also with you" with "and with your spirit" the arm gestures appeared. It looks downright ridiculous! Will watch part 2 and see if the responsorial psalm hand raise as a cue is mentioned and the holding and raising hands during the Our Father which I'm sure it is...that one is really severe. All that, then, the kiss of peace where...if anyone is actually reading this over say, 50, believe it or not, nobody wants to see you elderly couples kissing! I think our entire liturgy needs a reform/update or at least be adhered to.
Most Catholics these days would not know much about the GIRM. They also would not know much about the Catechism. They also would not know a lot about the Liturgical Year. They also would not know very many Catholic vocabulary words. There has not been much catechesis in the last 60 years.
There is no mistake if your heart is in it for Jesus Christ. Pray with your heart not the way others tell you how to. Jesus is not going to be marking you down for not following the Roman Catholic mass rituals, which are beautiful and nothing wrong but read urge everyone to read the Bible and follow your heart that’s guided by the Holy Spirit.
I humbly try and follow God’s moral, ceremonial, and civil rules, as best as possible and understand why the rules are instituted from his apostles who lived with him. One rule we must accept is “we don’t make the rules”. So stating “Jesus is not going to be marking you down for….” I find the opposite in the Bible, along with 38 volumes of Fathers writing. In Numbers 15:39-40 “remember all the commands of the LORD, to do them, NOT TO FOLLOW YOUR OWN HEART, and your own eyes, which are inclined to whore after.” I did it for myself most of my life. God asks us to seek truth, there is only one truth in all matters of faith and life. I not claiming to know them all, but to humbly pray and do the best I can to follow them not guided by my whoring heart, but the word of God, Holly Spirit, Apostolic teaching, and Church. I never find them misaligned, it’s always my misguided heart. Peace.
I hope you’re not a Catholic but a Protestant if you think it’s nonsense! We don’t need that attitude in the Church!! Keep your Protestant gestures outside of Mass!
Truly appreciate the clarification. The unnecessary gestures done by the laity during holy mass distracts the spoken words in the mass. Plus, the solemnity we to the ritual is diminished. Thank you very much, dear Father, for your courage and patience 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻✝️
Wow, thank you, Father! I just found this video, and it is excellent. I have NEVER done those gestures, since I was never instructed to do them. They seemed to sprout up fairly recently, and more and more people started to do them. I didn't like that the gestures seemed to mimic the priest, and also I thought they were too happy-clappy Protestant. I try to model folded hands for my fellow parishioners. But I sure wish my parish could play this video at all Masses...
Thank you so very much Father for clearly explaining these gestures and GIRM. This is so timely as no priest here talks about them hence overdoing ot abusing.
