My initial response to a player doing a farewell video was to roll my eyes. Then I remembered how scummy the media is in creating false narratives and negative spin so Mount has probably done the smart thing so to deny them the opportunity to trash his reputation.

Players leave clubs, they move on it happens every single season. This isn't exclusive to Man Utd and Chelsea. They did business together, they came to an agreement and Mason Mount chose to join the reds it's as simple as that. Mount shouldn't have to justify himself he's free to do whatever he wants. It is career, his future and ultimately his decision, no one else's.

Mount psychologically was clearly finished with Chelsea, he's application last season was none existent. IMO he's another young player that has let money & fame go to his head and has regressed as a player! As a Liverpool fan I'm glad we didn't go in for him. Perhaps the reason why top 6PL clubs sell more players to each other is that they're the only ones who can afford to pay the transfer fees and wages for those players (with few exceptions from abroad)

Bottom line is we made £55million profit for an average player from the academy. Least anybody forgets, Man United were the only team wanting to buy him, so I think it was great business by Chelsea.

Mason mounts and Reese James were offered new contracts before the world cup. Reese signed his contract. Mason turned it down because he didn't want to sign a 7-year contract. After world cup he was offered another contract which he again turned down due to the amount he was offered which was 200k. February when the new sporting directors came in they realize about Mason contract and try to offer him a year extension so they could sit down and discuss his contract which again Mason refused to do. The message to the fans that was pre-recorded over 3 weeks ago because when he went to watch the formula 1 he posted pictures A few days later on a boat with his blonde hair and then as he went through his holiday he posted pictures with his hair brown again. Yes he has every right to move for more money but don't pretend that you care about the club. because he left when the club needed him for his own gain which is money. It’s not about him leaving, but rather the media strenuously trying to paint the owners image bad for his decision. Mount isn’t the heart beat of Chelsea, and his contributions to the new build Chelsea would be arguably less than what it’s been b4.

IMO, it was a mutually beneficial split between Mount and Chelsea. Mount had contract offers he had rejected for a variety of reasons - from wages to term to bonuses and image rights - these were not satisfactory to Mason's camp. He witnessed other players come in and get bigger wages and he felt he should be rewarded the same. He wasn't offered what others were and felt some resentment towards the negotiations and at some point, was determined to leave for greener pastures. If I was working for Mason as an agent, given Mason's feelings of how he perceived the negotiations and offers, I would have advised Mason to explore an alternative solution and move on to a different team and start fresh. I also see why Mason felt the way he did about others being rewarded from Sterling, Fofana, Koulibaly, Cucurella, James - all getting massive contracts. As for Chelsea, the new regime is trying to correct problems they inherited and also contributed to last summer - wages being the primary objective. Chelsea's wage structure was highest in the league, the squad was large with even more players scattered around the continent on loans etc. Chelsea in tackling this area of concern, had a valuation of what they felt was Mason's worth. This valuation was completely opposite of what Mount and his camp felt it should be. Chelsea wrongly decided in overpaying players as recently as last summer's window and although it is not fair to Mason in the sense "if they get it I should" - two wrongs (or more) don't make it right nor intelligent to continue making wrongs by then giving in and rewarding a player who they rightly or wrongly, valued at a certain figure. Chelsea should not also allow the precedent of allowing any player to hold them ransom against their better judgement. Chelsea's last offer in the winter of a year for reportedly 200k per week wages, was from Chelsea's perspective, a way of buying time to continue negotiations but viewed from Mason's camp as disrespectful and a ploy to buy time to increase his sale value with the extra year. Who's right here? Your guess is as good as mine. My opinion, is although I see Mason as a good player, I never saw him as a great player. I didn't think he was creative enough nor efficient enough, DESPITE statistically a very strong G&A that year under Tuchel. There was more than met the eye despite that strong goal/assist contribution. There's always more beyond sheer numbers. (I only need to point to Lukaka as a quick example last year at Chelsea where he was the leading goal scoring with 15 goals - setting records for least touches in a Premier League fixture (7) to largely scoring against teams such as Chesterfield, Plymouth, Luton Town, Barnsley, Al Hilal, Palmeiras, Villa - which does have a bit of a stat padding tone to it. Regardless, he was the leading scorer.) I would have preferred Mason to stay on as a rotational player, start some games or come on late in others. I never saw Mason as a game changing player though therefore, I would not have been offering the wages that Mason wanted(Nor would I have rewarded other players with those large contracts either). Mason had his own brand to consider and I respect that, with Pepsi being one of those sponsors and had the confidence to think he was a game changing player. Fair play to him there. I don't agree personally but it meant Mason was not going to accept less than what he valued himself at and wasn't interested in competing for a spot on the starting XI and being a rotational player which made it inevitable that the two parties needed to split and would split - which has now transpired which I felt was the only solution for months now given both camps desires. Chelsea got a good enough fee with a year left, now they need to pick up their recruitment and move on. Mason already has. Personally I'm fine with the outcome.

Derby County fans had the pleasure to have him for a season and himself & Harry Wilson were brilliant to watch , gave everything knowing we were a stop gap , and if Mason hadn’t missed a good chunk with injury at a critical time I’m convinced we would have gone up that season, was head & shoulders above the rest at a young age, no ego, worked non stop great lad , if Lampard hadn’t been so tactically naive he’d have left a legend in just one season, wish him all the best he deserved the new contract and pay , poor from Chelsea in my humble opinion

Players running down their contract is going to become the norm now, but clubs are going to have to factor that in to what they pay as a transfer fee, as they're not going to recoup any of that at the end as they would've done historically

The bottom line is, Mason wanted to leave Chelsea a long time ago and the only way that could have changed is if the terms of a new contract from the club were mind-boggling. Mason Mount is not a 300k-per-week footballer, in my opinion… and seemingly the opinion of Chelsea too. Mason deserved a new deal at Chelsea and at the time discussions were good and close to an extension at the end of 2022, his Dad and friends represented him, people with no ability whatsoever to negotiate multi-million pound situations. This is ultimately why Mason and Chelsea suffered a 6 month period of rumour and breakdown in relations. The club got fed up of dealing with Mason’ amateur representatives and Mason got fed up from the other side. Mason Mount is not bigger than Chelsea Football Club, he has performed consistently well when in the team and represented the club in a professional and loyal manner. However, just like Simon Jordan says, the relationship is at an end and has simply run its course. Chelsea will move on and unearth new stars, or sign them, and undoubtedly will compete again at some point. Mason got his big move, his big money, and the number 7 shirt at United which is part of the plan by Team Mount as they follow the Beckham blueprint. On we go. Thank you, Mason, good-bye.

The club should pay an equatable salary to the skills and brand that the player brings to the theatre. Mount has an inherent quality for England. Simon is usually well informed but he is wrong on the young players at CFC. Enzo Fernandez is the highest paid of the new signings who are all U23...and he is on 100k a week. Mudryk is on 90k a week...others are on less. The contracts are built to increase over time, based on performances and other incentives. The only players left on big wages are the likes of Sterling, Lukaku, James etc and some others like Aubameyang who is being moved on?
