Terence shows you how you can have a full-color, 7" touchscreen for your Apex for just $50. He also shows you how to configure it to run full screen and stay illuminated 24/7.
Hi Terence...Is there a way i would have 3 rows in fusion as opposed to just 2? I have the Fire Tablet and the Dolphin browser. I got the 3 rows on my PC but not the tablet
Thank you for the 'how to' I got my Fire new at the Exchange store for 34.99 (no tax) and with your tutorial set it up for my Apex. Now I want to find a case so I can protect it (hopefully waterproof too). Another thing that would be great is to also use the camera and then mount it so it can utilize the camera at the same time as having it on Fusion. If anyone has done this please share..
I know this is 10 months old but, amazon fire won't allow two apps to work at once on one screen.... so this will unlikely ever work on this tablet. And the apex app would need to been written to be able to utilize the built in camera, which probably isnt' gonna happen. They would probably have a addon physical camera for this....
I have this running with Silk on full screen but can not get three rows to show, the format only allows two which waste allot of the screen. Anyone have an idea on how to size fusion so it shows three rows vs two on Silk?
Make sure to get the fire tablet 7 because the 8 will only show two columns. I thought the bigger screen would be better but I was wrong. The 7 will show three columns like in the video. Seems like it would be nice for Neptune to put some resources into enabling users to have some control over column width.
Thanks, What a great Idea. Here's a thing I found out after setting my Fire up as a sole user interface for my APEX. Almost everyone has some time of aquarium Magnet they use to scrub the glass ever few days. Right? Well I have a larger Magnet for my 1/2 front viewing glass. When not in use it sits in the top corner of the aquarium. The amazon fire tablet is compatible with Magnets and will hold without having to use velcro anywhere.
Won't let me download from browser on kindle fire keeps telling me I have it in my apps store which is dolphin video flash player can any one tell me how to get out of this
Question.... I purchased the Fire tablet as shown... went thru the setup procedure as show on the video ()two different people) But it still returns back to it's home screen even know it's power is plugged in
I'm having the same issue. I followed the instructions exactly as given and after a few hours or so, the dolphin browser closes and shows the tablets home screen. Very frustrating.
We will be selling a new kit in the UK with the new Apex and the Energy Bar 6 along with all four of the probes. We will also have the new Apex on its own so existing customers can upgrade if they so wish. There will not be a new Energy Bar for the UK for quite some time. It is quite involved.
Neptune Systems Are these features on Fusion yet, calibration the big one I'm after since my control panel wasn't working from the start.. I've been using my Apex for 5years now without calibration. I bought my Apex threw a friend in UK but I'm using it in South Africa.
Just what I need, a huge temptation for my fiance's 5 year old that could potentially wreck my tank. haha. I think I'll keep it safely on my phone and laptop.
I configured my Fire tablet as described in the video and it works great. One problem is that it drops the Fusion page and reverts back to the home Fire screen occasionally requiring a re-entry to Fusion and re-selection of my unit. Is there a way to stop this from happening?
I don't know why this is happening. Could be one of the settings or the browser could be crashing for some reason. Also, you can try and use a different browser.
For any others out there who have had this issue, I think I've found the solution: In the Dolphin Settings- Advanced menu, there is an option to "keep page open" which seems to default to off. You can also make the apex page your home page in the settings.
It will work for all Apex Systems. Even the Apex Jr. Since Apex Fusion is a fully responsive web app, it will work on all devices and for all Apex Systems.
This works for display ONLY but dont expect to actually use it. The amazon fire is junk for the apex app. It is pretty frustrating trying to turn on feed mode A and the damned display doesn't register my touches. SOMETIMES it actually works but forget turning off individual components. I pull out my Samsung phone or my wife's ipad and it turns on feed mode with one touch. I have the breakout box so I think I will mount a couple buttons for different feed modes. Of course the other option is to buy a Samsung pad or a used Ipad!
You are absolutely correct that this is not at the same quality level as an iPad or Samsung. It is also a fraction of the price and some are willing to have the tradeoffs. Also, your idea to use shortcut buttons is absolutely a great idea and makes things easier regardless of the tablet or interface used.
Exactly right. Quality product. Great price. I just gave one recipe on how to do this. The Fire/Dolphin combo is nice too because you get three columns in landscape mode where in others you will get only two.
You have to use the small text link shown in the video to access it. You cannot use the google play store link. Tap that link and the app will download and execute its installer on the Fire. It is called side loading.
I give you guys a 10 for great Spin Work. You add a tablet to make the unit as close to a touch screen model then say its better LOL. Yours already cost more than units with touch screen. Controllers with full touch screens are much easier to use then the tablet and the data is always auto refreshing. With Apex the data is the same on the tablet until you refresh it. Other controller like Aquatronica have function buttons for feed mode, stopping skimmer or any four things uses that you want. No buttons with new Apex, no live data updates. You have not fixed the limited programming with this new controller, it still only has the basic commands, I was looking forward to more commands than my Gold errr now regular Apex. Disappointment in every direction with the silly look of the unit and huge power units. I would stick with old Apex until you guys really come out with something modern with true water resistant touch screen and more commands and reliable probes. Had to disconnect salinity probe, that Junk it never read right and cost a lot.
The Apex Jr. with a tablet gives you basic control and monitoring of your aquarium from anywhere in the world for less than $300. No touch screen unit costs less than $300. The Apex Classic is less than $600 with a touch screen - what else is there that offers all it does for that? Apex Fusion auto updates - so that information you state is flat out wrong. If you do not calibrate or use the salinity/conductivity probe correctly it will not read right. Thousands use it just fine. The Energy Bars are smaller in volume by outlet than every other option out there so I don't know where you get that info either. Please check your facts.
What good is a controller without at least one power unit and some probes? Almost 95% of the people end up buying the Gold package because it makes no sense to spent the money and not have the ability to read basic water parameters. When you compare the $700 plus Price Tag with lets say the Aquatronica Touch Gold package for the same price, you get a full touch screen that updates the information constantly and you get hard buttons for setting feed mode etc. Also it would give me direct control of the unit as opposed to going through a network system. I wish Neptune had spent time adding more commands and a real color touch screen rather than trying to convince people a tablet is a better option. We could always use a tablet with any of the current controllers including the classic, so this is nothing new. Added commands, a more stable system and a nice built in touch screen would have been the improvement we were hoping for.
I think you need to compare the Apex Classic at $550. That is a better comparison. $600 with the tablet. The new Apex is $800 and comes with Wi-Fi, Salinity, pH, and ORP included along with power monitoring and a built-in DC power supply and five DC outlets. A much better value than the tired, outdated AquaTronica unit. Also, due to the orientation of the outlets, you cannot even plug in products to the aquatronica power bar without losing an outlet as it occludes it. Please take a closer look. Not going to hold a debate here. I just think you need to look a little closer.
You know, I went and bought this thing on your recommendation. Cant make the full screen work, cant download dolphin, cant get it to stop dimming after a few minutes... You should really mention these things because Im about to toss the thing out the window.
I know this was 11 months ago, but you don't have to have full screen, it just looks nicer. The dolphin browser is just a recommend browser that has the full screen option, but firefox also has a fullscreen option. It also could be that the dolphin browser is no longer available after this video was made which is possibly why you couldn't download it. He doesn't control that. And depending on the version of the fire tablet firmware you have, you can always use google to figure out how to open up the developers option and see if you have the 'stay on' option. Again he doesn't control that either.
