Get any microphone into your Mirrorless Camera - Shure X2U

If you're stuck with an XLR microphone and only an 1/8" (3.5mm) input on your camera, you can use a Shure X2U and a USB Battery bank to get that microphone signal into your camera for a LOT less $$ than buying an external recorder (and having to sync later), and without having to buy an expensive, camera-specific, XLR hot shoe module.
This is a bit of a "hack," but it works, and the X2U is a relatively affordable option.
I hope you like this video and hopefully you learn something from it.

I didn't even know that the the X2U existed. Definitely, many things to attach and monitor .... which means many possible things to fail or forget to check. Yesterday I used for the first time a new computer for a video conference ..... using my external camera, microphone attached to a recorder .... and even with material that is familiar, there are so many points of failure, and so many things to check, and then when something fails .... you have to search for the point of failure .... so probably, in this setting of camera+microphone, the simple configuration of recording the audio on an audio recorder, and the video on the camera, and controlling independently each recording seems a more robust solution, even if it implies post synchronization. Or use a video camera ("cinema camera") with XLR.

Hi there Blas :). Yes, all very good points.......lots of points of failure, and more gain stage points as well to check to ensure you're not clipping out the X2U OR the Camera. I just thought this video would be fun since someone else on my other X2U video said you could do it......so I tried it, and it's an option. Not a great option, but an option :)

how does X2u compare to Focusrite Solo - which one you prefer? Given the better gain on one vs the portability of the other?

Any idea if the x2u would function with an android phone and an OTG adapter

Hi there.....I'm not sure, and unfortunately, I am not an Android user so I can't test that.

Will this work for the Sony ZV1? Also will it work with the new MVX2U

Hi there. yes, this would work with the ZV-1 just fine. As far as the MVX2U, I'm not sure, because it looks like on the MVX2U, they removed the volume knob for the headphone jack, and therefore I don't know if the MVX2U could operate WITHOUT a computer.......AKA, it might need the DATA connection provided by the USB-cable-to-computer to work.......whereas the older X2U does NOT require a data-connection to a computer to operate....you can just give it power via a USB power source and it still operates as a preamp and the headphone output works. But, yes, will work just fine with the ZV-1
