In this drill you will learn to get the cue ball on a string, playing solid positions and building stamina at the same time. It was developed by Belgian Coach Johny van Rijkel. During the last bootcamp for the European Championships 202, the dutch selection had to do this drill every morning as soon as we entered the poolroom. Therefore it's called "The Cold Drill"😀 💪
Work on this one and stay within your limits. Stretch but don't snap the elastic 👍

Thank you so much for sharing this drill. I tried it today and I got into the second rack several times. I would fail on the 2, 3, or 4. This drill highlighted some flaws; failing to be precise with position for every shot, hitting low outside English shots fat (please do a video on this problem), and failing to focus while executing every shot. I did find myself starting to pocket the balls with more spin and less speed. Thank you for sharing this.

Damn. On my 5th try I did the three racks moving the 5 up. Last rack I made very difficult for myself but still got to the 8 which was a tough cross side. Made the bank and of course the cue ball had to brush against the 9. Feel like crying now lol. Still happy with the results though. Very nice drill.

Another nice drill from the Terminator. Certainly not an easy drill for a beginner or lower level player who is far from using spin effectively. Excellent for the intermediate and above player. Two things of note I noticed. You didn't get straight in on the 2 each time. You ended a little on either side. However, using a little low left or right depending on the angle, you stunned into position on the 3 as if you were straight in on the two. That's a nifty skill to have because you often get on the wrong side of the object ball on side pocket position. Secondly, getting fron the 6 to the 7 is the most difficult shot on the drill which I'm sure ended a lot of runs for people practicing this drill. Being able to get back and forth on the table is a huge part of 9 ball.

@Niels, Great stuff here! Just curious here...how do you feel about the semantics of challenge/exercise vs. drill. I don't think most semantics arguments matter, but "drilling" to many players is playing the same shot, or type of shot over and over to burn it into your game. Thanks for the content!

@@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen Hi Niels, after countless tries I have finally finished the drill (3 rounds with fixed 5 ball) the first time! It was so frustrating several times when I missed the 7 in round 3 and I was shaking just now on the last 9 ball... As you said I can feel and see the improvement gradually, thanks a lot for it! Personal feeling about the drill: for me it was easier to play a stun from 6 to 7 directly without touching the cushion and land between 8 and 9 for the 7. When I play the 7 to the same pocket as 8 like you showed I often have a big angel. Not sure if it's not enough right english or the band is new and bumpy. Overall it made me think a lot and practice with very clear target to round the shape. Great champion and teacher! Will also donate some money for your work. Cheers Leo

From the 6 to 7 would it be better to put left hand spin and go to the long rail and spin up the table toward the 7?
@kevinhowe8725
@kevinhowe8725 2 года назад
When using side spin is it easier to learn adjusting your aim for the ball squirting. Or should you try using back hand english to be able to line up more normal. I struggle with side spin. Obviously lol.
@robdetuinman2
@robdetuinman2 2 года назад
The harder you shoot, the more squirt (deflection) you have to adjust for. And then there's the length of the shot and table speed. And every shaft is different. Low deflection shaft still have some deflection, so less adjustment is needed. I would practice with normal "medium" speed over half a table and then lengthen the shot and adjust the aim. Then next practice I would up the speed and repeat with different lengths. With soft shots there's no squirt but there might still be some adjusting to do depending on cue and table speed.
@kevinhowe8725
@kevinhowe8725 2 года назад
@@robdetuinman2 Alright. Thank you. I'll keep speed in mind more
@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen
@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen 2 года назад
Good points! In my humble opinion it’s better to learn to adjust your aim a bit depending on the speed rather than backhand English shizzle. So just vary a lot of shots in practice and start to feel the shot and aim 👍🏼👍🏼😄

Really nice drill Niels... how do you decide between low right or high right on the 7 ball, is it just feel or preference? I ask, because in the 1st example (1st 7 ball you shot), you chose high right... before you shot it, I thought you'd play less high and play it off the bottom rail a bit closer to the bottom left corner... tracking towards the left middle and getting almost straight on the 8 with a little draw. Then shoot the 9 in the top right. But you played it for more angle on the 8.
@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen
@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen 2 года назад
Depends on how sharp the angle is. When you’re closer to the 7 and it’s about a half ball hit then low right. The other shots were too thin for that. When you have to cut a ball a lot, avoid draw as much as possible. It’s too hard to pocket the ball then 👍🏼👍🏼

@MrSlim-ko9om 2 года назад
Hi Niels. Love your videos! I have a couple of general questions. When you show the dot on the cue ball, is that the center of the cue tip or the point at which the cue tip makes contact with the cue ball? Also, when you say 1 tip of right, do you mean the entire diameter of the tip or half the diameter of the tip?
@nd_irish_fan744
@nd_irish_fan744 2 года назад
I will try to answer the question for you if you don't mind. The convention in order for information to be passed along consistently is a full tip of english is sliding the tip (or circle) exactly one diameter in either direction. Moving the center of the tip to the edge of your tip as you are aiming dead center (or one radius of the circle) is considered a half-tip of english. When you see diagrams that have an aiming point on the cue ball regarding english, it is referring to aiming the center of your tip to that indicated spot. However, your cue center will not be the point of contact for any given english. When you are using high ball, more of the bottom part of your tip is what is actually contacting the cue ball below the "aiming point", and more of the top part of your tip is making contact when using low ball. Alternatively, right english causes more of the left side of the tip to make contact, and left english causes more of the right side of the tip to make contact. This is why it is ALWAYS a must to make sure your have chalked your stick properly when aiming off center of the cue ball (english). Always chalk your tip in a brushing motion like putting on lipstick, and watch to see how the chalk is applied. The outer "edges" of the tip is the most important because these are the contact points for large amounts of english which causes most of our miscues.

You just gotta feel those shots, you can't learn the proper amount of spin and stroke power from YT, it has to come to you from experience. These graphs are just a general indicator, but I never think of coordinates on the cue ball before playing a shot, I think of where do I need to put the cue ball and invite my muscle memory to do the rest.

It’s meant as an indication and the spot where you strike the cue ball. Please try not to over analyse it. Your stroke, cloth, balls, rails might be totally different and you need to adjust accordingly. Hope this helps!

@@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen Thanks for the answer. I know the better ta player is, the better they are at striking the cue exactly where they want to. I have always thought that when a world class player such as youself calls out a spot they are striking the cue ball, that is the exact spot they are striking that shot for that equipment at the time. Thank you for clering it up that it is more of a general guide.

For the 1 ball would it be better to bounce off the rails to get to the 2?

My man! you can bump of the side rail but since you’re not really coming into the angle it doesn’t matter that much.

im looking at dimensions for a 6 x 12 snooker table 😄
@robdetuinman2
@robdetuinman2 2 года назад
With a 9ball table it's minimum double the width and double the length unless you have an extra long cue like Jayson or Earl. Then add a few inch.

With a snooker table add your snooker cue length to each side
