Way to hang in there and grind for some steelhead success! Glad the creeks came down after all that run-off from snowmageddon! Hopefully the creeks will stay fishable for a while now. Great stuff - tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Persistence paid off. Bill! Congrats on two really nice steelies on jigs. You guys had a lot more snow than here in W central Missouri but we had the "bonus" of everything being frozen over for a long time. Won't be too long before the better weather and better fishing roll in. Best wishes, Don
Always manages to land some beautiful fish! I gotta learn some of thise techniques because I haven’t been to lucky lately 😢 I gotta remove this skunk, been hanging around for a few weeks hopefully I can catch some this weekend. Tight lines!
Nice fish Bill! Glad you got a few, looked like a very nice day to be out! Last weekend was my first weekend in a very long time where I did not get out fishing.
Thanks for sharing the video Bill. Im glad you got into a few fish. I did alright today at the spot we met at late December. Fish were a bit off though. Not hitting like they normally would still quite a few hook ups!
It was a situation where fish are there and werent behaving normal lol. I got quite a few bites but it was tough..Had to keep mixing up what I was using. Nothing was consistent.
Same story here. Minus the snow. Just too cold and locked everything up. Then everything got blown out. Finally made it to the private stretch of a feeder creek I've got access to on Wednesday afternoon and it was my best day in years. It was my first day really trying my jigs I started tying and I got 4, then I think 3 on sacks. Would have been more if the old man would have been there, I must have spent an extra twenty minutes to a half hour fighting fish he'd have netted. I got there at 330 or so and I got my PB just as it was too dark.
Bill I was out on a different trib and got skunked talked to a few other guys nobody was doing anything. So your definitely right it was a grind out there at least you got into a couple nice ones hopefully better days to come
@@BillMikesAnglingAdventures 🤣, trip was well worth it, I went 8for8 dad went 5for5, and the best part is one of mine was a big Erie coho... In February🤯🤯🤯
It’s been tough last few times I’ve been out I think a lot of fish dropped back in that last big blow out and with the warm winter many spawned early and left already. Great video btw!
Been brutal slow since the snowstorm came for me too, would have figured more would have came in but maybe it was to big of flows and flushed em all out. I hit there last Wednesday and had nothing.
i tried another creek the next da and very very slow with perfect conditions- only 4 hookups - im thinkin the blowouts push a lot of fish back to the lake
Wednesday was the first time i was able to get out in almost a month. Didnt have snow, but the cold locked everything up then a ton of rain. Anywho I had one of the best days ever using the jigs i tied for the first time. Including my personal best. Now everything is back to being low and bathtub clear. 😟
Not to bad of a day of fishing, couple landed isn't too bad. Water looked perfect. Got a question though Bill. Ontario tribs always had bigger steelhead and plenty of them over erie tribs. That seems to changed. Seems like steelhead fishing in Ontario tribs is getting worse by the year but, erie looks stronger. Do you agree ?
It was a grind this weekend for sure...had my 2 sons (12 and 14) out with me yesterday as well (Feb 3rd) on one of the "sister" tribs using everything but the kitchen sink with bait selection (every color jig and size imaginable, beads of all colors and sizes, sacks, grubs, waxworms, you name it), nothing for all 3 of us...it's rare that all 3 of us come out empty handed and skunked. You're not a steelhead fisherman if you don't get slapped with the skunk on occasion...anyone who says otherwise is full of BS. Spent the entire afternoon walking from hole to hole before calling it a day. Found some new spots though that look good for future outings. Saw very few people out and the few I spoke to had no luck yesterday. At least you got into a few. The sister trib had much less stain and lower flow. Earlier in the day, I was much farther upstream than you (again, low flow, and quite clear), that was on the same trib as you were...nothing upstream, which was why we switched up tribs and headed closer to the Lake.
No doubt the cold was somewhat to blame...the fish are just more lethargic and the blowouts probably scattered them around. It'll pick back up when we get some warmer days this week, and some rain on Friday. That should help send them back into the established holes where they can spawn by late March/April. Last year my sons and I had some banner days in Feb (Feb was very mild last year) where we picked up 5-10+ fish in an afternoon.
