The echo/delay is what makes his tone so perfect. Its like his guitar is on glass. The studio recording of red house is one of the best guitar tones ever recorded
Thanks for your feedback 👍 Actually, I’ve compared to the studio outtakes, the UK recording and the Smash Hits version countless times and felt pretty safe having found a good approximation 🧐 I hear you on the glassy tone, but when I extract Jimi’s single guitar track my eq-ing is there 😮 I’ll have a look into my settings again✌️☮️🎸
@@MikelBluni your tone is good. I can just hear that there is an echoplex/Benson type tape delay. Something to do with the preamps in those type of units gave it a very unique sound. It did more to the signal than just delay it.
@@jaycole4691 Thanks a lot. I was considering the EP Preamp thing, but then I thought about the way Eddie created the Echoes/Delays and there was no EP involved 🧐 However, thanks for the impulse I really have to follow that approach and involve an EP Preamp and see if I can improve the outcomes 🙏✌️🙏
@MikelBluni the reason I say this is because I own a catalinbread bell epoch pedal. I found the pedal while looking into Eric Johnsons pedalboard. It is supposed to be an accurate reproduction of the echoplex, preamp circuit as well. It definitely has that type of red hose sound when ran in front of the amp and not in the effects loop. Who knows what they actually did lol
Thanks a lot 😀 My all time favorite Red House version is San Diego 69 - it’s unparalleled 🎸🔥 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Usm_zYKN6Fw.htmlsi=cqLFV-7oUua8vtU4
@@MikelBluni Yes, not only is San Diego 69 the ultimate version of Red House, but for the first 6 minutes of it at least, prime candidate for greatest blues ever recorded, period. 😎
The first time I heard that studio song I was blowned by the extreme Les Paul tone, which make me search because I didnt know Jimi used Les Pauls. I found that in many live performances he used a Les Paul or a SG sometimes only for that song. Indeed the last months of his life he spent many time with his customized Flying V.
@@MikelBluni Good to hear! For my birthday I visited Jimi's London apartment, it has been opened as a museum. Where our legend actually lived during 1968 - 1969. Rather interesting day ! Next time you're in London Mikel id recommend it !
Thanks for the info. Haven’t found anything on that. Due to my understanding he acquired the Black Beauty only after the recording of AYE. If you have a source to that info feel free to share ✌️☮️✌️
You have a great ear for tone! An awesome video would be a tutorial/ tone for Jimi hendrix war sounds ! (like the ones in woodstock : explosions, aircraft bombers, planes taking off etc)
Thank you very much Mikel. I was a bit skeptical regarding the use of the fuzz because the UK version never sounded to me like fuzz but neither I could ever get the sound with just overdrive. In your video you sound more like the US version, way more fuzzy than the UK but your settings worked for me to get the UK version sound: overdrive pedal at the end of the chain (not possible a loud amp in my case), the fuzz not maxed, just backed off a bit, and the guitar volume also backed off and voilá THAT's the sound finnaly. Neck pickup of course.
Thanks for sharing 🙏 I listened to the studio outtakes and figured I couldn’t get the brilliance without the Fuzz, BUT as you mentioned Fuzz rolled back quite a bit. In the end I went for the echoey US version where the tone is indeed fuzzier 🔥🎸
Yes, quite so ✌️Both channels - High Treble and Normal - are initially the volume, but they increase the gain the higher you set them - at least to a certain point. Both sound different from each other. The Normal channel sounds dark and is oftentimes used by adding a lack of bass or warmth to the High Treble channel. Jimi used the HT channel only and compensated too trebly tone by raising the setting above 6-7 🎸 ☮️🔥
Too much gain. Jimi’s tone was way cleaner. If anything THAT’S the secret. Fuzz, yes, but you have to work that vol knob on your axe. (Also not every fuzz will do a good cleanup).
Are you interested about any Eric Clapton stuff? Mainly older 60's 70's music from Bluesbrakers and Cream era. It would be interesting to hear those styles with G12H 55Hz speakers and SG or LP.
Thanks for your feedback. I’ve set it to one repetition exactly like on the recording. When I play along it’s spot on. I’ve explained it in the video you might have missed it✌️☮️🤷♂️
Red House live at Isle of Wight starting at 6:20 it sounds like the strat tone pot rolled down+ octavia fuzz + Cocked wah = overtones. Try to figure it out to make a lesson about getting this Isle of Wight Hendrix Woman Overtone. CLICK HERE ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W8WzhqTrwH4.html
(Scriiiiiitttch) sound of needle scratching ... to interrupt you .... first thing ... before signal goes to the amp : Hendrix used a modded Strat with a Nashville wiring -Mid pickup out of the 3 way switch, just like a Tele. The mid pickup is wired to one tone knob as a volume control AND the most important thing is .... the mid pickup is wired OUT OF PHASE .... so when He played Red House, He mixed Neck pu OOP with the MID pu. There are several songs where Hendrix uses these 2 pu's that go well with the FUZZ box.
Okay that sounds interesting. Have spoken many times to Roger Mayer, but he never mentioned such mods 🙃Would you mind sharing your source of information 😀✌️🎸☮️
@@MikelBluni I read it from one nerd page full of incredible facts about his guitars and tone. Search with NASHVILLE WIRING STRAT ... and you'll find it. BTW, I mod my guitars like Hendrix with the Nashville mod ...
The tone this guy uses in the beginning is WAY too fuzzy to my ears- maybe it’s just me but this isn’t the tone at all. You sure he used a Marshall and not a Twin Reverb? Either way on the recording it’s the fuzz on a peach- not fuzz from a week of not shaving. How this guy can’t hear this is really strange.
Thanks for your estimation. If it’s that bad I’ll have to recheck. The Fuzz I use is actually a mild Germanium Fuzz and if you’ve seen my shared setting it’s dialed in pretty low. Comparing to several studio takes I don’t hear any big difference in Fuzz level, but I’m only human and could be wrong. According to my research Jimi used a Marshall for that recording that’s what Mike Ross and Noel recall. 😉✌️☮️ Thanks for your feedback, as I always say I try to approximate things and give some impulses for those on the hunt. Always looking to get closer. At least the many people in the audience I reach with my many many live gigs seem to like the tone and appreciate ✌️☮️🎸
