Very good and insightful perspective on this legendary tone, such a simple yet unique sound, very very bluesy. Jimi must have known just what he wanted for this song and it came out perfect, one of my all time favorite songs. Cheers and a Happy New Year to you!

Pretty good! I would suggest ditching the reverb all together. If you use a tape delay and increase the input gain and the repeats it gives off a similar vibe as reverb but it leaves somewhat of a space. I find it mashes so much better with the gain going into it while preserving the clarity at the same time…
@MikelBluni
@MikelBluni 3 месяца назад
Thanks for your feedback ✌️In this case the reverb was required to replicate the specific room sound. That’s what makes the recorded sound so special 👍🎸☮️

I had the idea that it was a mix album with some live records. So I always use my Reverb in the Hall setting to mimic that sensation. I use it also in Watchtower and The Slight Return version but with a little bit less effect intensity. But I never considered the Delay factor. I will try it. Thank you so much for sharing.
@MikelBluni
@MikelBluni 7 месяцев назад
Thanks for sharing your approach. I think the way you do it to decrease the room/effect a bit for the other songs is a great idea 🎸🔥 In the end the Delay factor is adding a new dimension to the sound - it’s subtle, but you will immediately feel the tone change under your fingers‼️ Enjoy my friend 🔥☮️

There is always one detail to keep in mind when trying to recreate the "legendary sounds": One thing is the sound you hear coming out of the amplifier and into the room, another thing is how it is miked. The sound we are trying to imitate has been miked, mixed and mastered... probably light years away from the sound that came out of the speaker.

Nice work investigating this tone! I think that you can adjust this type of stereo delay unsig the "haas effect". Changing feedback to 0, time to 30ms and mix 70%-80%, and turn a bit down the reverb.
@MikelBluni
@MikelBluni 7 месяцев назад
Thanks 🙏 Where does your setting come from? I can give it a try, but Eddie Kramer clearly states 100ms. Reverb is point on with the 10:48ish mark in the song.
@JDStone20
@JDStone20 7 месяцев назад
Thank you for doing this video! The long version on Voodoo Child is amazing, with the organ being played it reminded me of Deep Purple a little. Great song. I have the Digitech Jimi Hendrix Experience pedal that Eddie Kramer helped get the sound right for. The right speaker helps a ton, I got some Ownhammer IR’s for the G12H 55, it sounds way closer to Jimi’s sound a little bit better than the Greenbacks, which is as close as I can get on some of my multi-effect pedals that I like to use as a amp modeler. Another thing I found that helps a ton with Hendrix’s sound is the strings. Nickel round core, 9-10-13-(or 15)-26-32-38. What you do is get a 9 or 9.5 string to a Standard Hendrix set of 10-13-15-26-32-38, and move the 10 to the B String, and sometimes they would also put the 13 in the G because back in the 1960’s the G came as a wound string. Awesome video again, I have learned so much from your channel!
@MikelBluni
@MikelBluni 7 месяцев назад
Thanks for your great feedback and awesome insights 🙏👍 I have yet to try an Ownhammer IR. Once I find the time, I’ll make an IR of my cab/speakers as it is extremely close to Jimi’s sound, fortunately ☺️ The strings play a role and maybe for one of the next videos I’ll put on a 10-38 set or even follow your advice alternatively. The Digitech Pedal is a very cool device. I wonder why they ceased production 🧐 Thanks again my friend ✌️☮️🔥🎸
@JDStone20
@JDStone20 7 месяцев назад
@@MikelBluni I noticed a huge difference between the sound of the hex core vs the older style round core. Pyramid makes a good set and so does Curt Mangan. I always wondered why I didn't like the sound of new strings, I would keep my hex cores on until they broke. If they didn't break, they were not getting changed. The hex cores sound very bright, and especially on a Strat with single coil pickups. The round core strings have a more mellow, warmer sound, like if you never changed your hex core strings for years. Blew my mind when I tried the round core. There is a RU-vidr named Milsap that has done some work in getting a Hendrix tone.
@MikelBluni
@MikelBluni 7 месяцев назад
@@JDStone20 Thanks 👍For those interested in trying: „Pyramid Nickel Classics Regular“ are the old style round cores. They have a Hebdrix Set, too: „Pyramid Nickel Classics JHI 010-038“
@JDStone20
@JDStone20 7 месяцев назад
@@MikelBluni Yeah I have a set of those on my Stratocaster now. Only thing is that you need to make sure you crimp the ends of strings and bend them at a 90* angle so you don't get a dead string. That was one of the reasons strings were switched to hex core.
