Another excellent C5 video. I decided to part with my 2002 LS1 to buy a 2009 LS3 and find that 430hp is more than adequate in base stock form. Not into drag racing, just cruising. I do find some local Mustang owners challenging me, but ignore them as street racing is dangerously stupid. Nothing against Mustangs here. Just the comparison to them is sort of like "Apples and Oranges" analogy. Keep up the superb C5 videos.

Once I stepped into a vehicle with higher power.. I to just backed off of street competition and take it to the track. (I had a 600hp Gen 2 Ford Lightning and drove it like a grandpa on the street)

I've probably done 100 pulls with other cars and it's not dangerous when there's no traffic ahead of you. The cars are built for speed. Stop being a wuss and do it. It's really fun. You don't have enough hp to peel out at 60 and lose control.

@@nikkoalpha2you can't do a 40 or 60 rolling start on a dragstrip. A dig with slicks would shatter my diff. I prefer NOT being on the dragstrip. All the waiting. Clapping out your engine with burnouts before each and every run. Eff that. Not worth it for me at all.

Nice seeing the face of someone active on the forum I am part of. My new to me 2K C5 auto is absolutely getting the A&A treatment, and it will be bolted onto a stroked LS1. With 115,000 on the clock I want to freshen up the stock motor and while in there, why not add a bit of displacement as well. I do wish it was a 6M, however I do know a good auto can be quite fast as well, RPM is getting that task. Excellent content as always! Neat sidenote, the founder of A&A's brother did the tile work in my house a few months ago...

I have a 96 C4 and the best thing you can do to your late model C4 and C5 is tune it. I would assume the Burst Knock and Spark Knock tables are similar to the C5. GM pulls anywhere from 5-20 degrees of timing for knock depending on the table. The LT-1 is notorious for false knock. Many owners are losing power because of this and don't even know it. If you can de-tune these tables as well as doing other things that enhances torque and horsepower with tuning, you're going to be very happy. Your mods only enhances your tuning. 🤟

Tuning options are limited for the C4's LT engines. HP Tuners and EFI Live make C5's and newer much easier to bea able to tune plus the resources for find info. I always check when working with folks on their C5 and C6 cars to make sure their trim are in line and knock is at a minimum. If not, I suggest we dig deeper to find out why!

@@Toys4Life yes, I tune mine with JETS DST. I make sure I run my LT-1's octane high enough to stay out of the knock tables. However even with new knock sensors, I still get false knock on occasion. I tuned mine out and listen for knock. It's risky but if you know what you're doing and keep the octane levels up with E-10 pump gas? You'll be fine. So long as your timing advance curve isn't crazy...

Great content! I have a 04 C5Z. Full exhaust, Coilovers suspension etc. I’ve been sitting on a D1SC Procharger kit for a few years and have yet to install it. Fear of losing streetability and reliability. But this video has me considering changing my mind…🤔

The issues with supercharging a 1997-2001 LS1 'Vette, Camaro, Firechicken, etc. is the well-documented #2 compression ring issue for those years. See revised GM Service Bulletin #01-06-01-023A from June 19, 2001 regarding higher than expected oil consumption, replace rings and engine valley cover, VIN Codes G, S, RPOs LS1, LS6. (Valley cover replacement revised to include ONLY LS6). The excessive oil consumption can be as great as 1-quart per 400-600 miles! Apparently, GM revised the piston rings for the 2002-2004 C5s. Thankfully, my 2001 G Code C5 DOES NOT have an oil consumption issue, but, if I was to install a supercharger, it might develop one. I'm not willing to take that gamble. I'll simply enjoy the car as it is.

I made 406 rwhp 405trq with my 6 speed 04. It has a LS6 block, Texas Speed Bald Eagle cam, catless long tubes, and the flip tie CAI. BC Racing DS Track Spec Coilovers, HPI Rear diff brace, and forged wheels as well. Looking at 243 ported heads this winter. Someday Ill throw an LS3 or LS7 in it... Someday. Want to keep it reliable for the track and autocross, no drag racing for me.

this was an awesome video and really temps me to buy a used kit i see on facebook marketplace... this may seem odd but I do a TON of highway driving for work in the c5 so highway mpg is kinda important which is why I didn't go heads cam... what did you get on the highway before and after... like what mpg do you get at 65, 75?

With just the supercharger you might lose a quarter mile per gallon. Unless your foot's in it, then it'll eat a lot of fuel while you're doing that.

Thanks for another great video. I would LOVE to have a supercharged C5 albeit I lean towards a more roots style than belt-driven. BUT, gas is crazy expensive and I am concerned about gas mileage in the everyday use of my '02 Z06. What are your thoughts on nitrous as an alternative on-demand source of power in a stock car vs the constant available boost of a supercharger?

My yearly supercharger budget keeps getting spent on other things...like an engine last year and transmission this year lol. Crazy i'm mid 11's with only 115mph trap speed though and your supercharger hits 130.

Where is your spoiler at sir? Im goinf a different route, my car came with intake, long tubes, xpipe, and i did the exhaust bypass for more noises. Ill be adding a 4.11 axle and though youll ne fast in the 1/4, i think I'd stqnd a chancein the 1/8. 🙃

Did you have to change any driveline parts to handle the extra horsepower with that forced induction? To answer your question: What's holding me back? I haven't found a street-legal supercharger kit for my LS3 C6. Procharger makes legal units for just about all the Corvette models except mine.

@@Toys4Life Thanks for the tip! I punched in my specifications and it came up with a solution. Their phone number is 805 area code, which is right here in Cali. Did you have to change your drive line (clutch, diff, tranny, torque tube couplers) when you added that forced induction? I'd hate to spend $6K & then break another $6k worth of drivetrain parts. I have a 2010 base, LS3 6MT MRC with standard diff, but I don't know how durable that setup is (i.e. is it mostly the same driveline parts as a Z06 or ZR1 model and I'm just not informed enough to know). Thanks for the vid & the tip!!!

How many miles were on your C5 when you supercharged it? Are higher mileage vehicles less reliable to supercharge?

Around 70,000. They might be even more reliable as long as they're in good condition because they're a little looser. Supercharged engines are typically built with wider ring and gaps to allow for the extra heat expansion.

With this video you made me want to install a supercharger on my own C5 real bad. The problem is, here in Italy, such a modification is highly illegal and if the Police happened to stop me for some reasons, they'd seize the car 😔. Not to mention that, should i have an accident with such a heavily modified car, the insurance wouldn't pay... The only way to "make it legally", would be try to re-homologate the car at the vehicle registration office , but it would be a p.i.t.a. in terms of both money and time. How does it work in the U.S.? Thankfully here in the US modding your car is fairly straightforward, no real things to worry about insurance wise except if you don't declare your mods then you won't get anything for them should they become damaged in an accident. You'll get "VIN value" and that's it. Your liability insurance will still pay out should you damage somebody else's property or vehicle as appropriate. Now there may be an instance where you do something really dumb, insurance pays out then drops you because of risk but that's about it. The only real thing you have to worry about is emissions in some states with California being the strictest but otherwise it's pretty much a free for all, do what you want. It's your car, your property but also your risk. If you don't have enough insurance coverage for the damage you do/cause then the injured party can sue you into bankruptcy and then some. So if you mod your car it's a good idea to up your insurance coverage but the onus is on you to do so. Nobody is going to force you to do it. As far as licensing goes, in most states they just want their money and a quick VIN check to make sure it's not stolen and then you get your plates in the mail and whatever happens after that isn't their concern.

IMO - no, nor can the brakes, or power steering (without a cooler). Road course HPDE racing creates heat everywhere!

IMO w/an auto tranny you'll want to at a minimum increase the line pressure on both shifts and at heavy throttle via the tune. Might consider a shift kit that does that mechanically. The drivetrain comes down to what rear tires you use. If yo go DR's or slicks and try to launch hard your going to break stuff faster. If you keep normal street radials and don't let the rear tires hop much you'll be OK IMO.

Good points, I Was thinking of supercharging, tune, maybe headers and built rear with (faster) gears in the future. It’s stock with just the performance tires and corsa exhaust and dual snorkel intake, I believe the brakes were also upgraded at one point also. Thanks the reply/opinion :)

@@ronaldmartin8770 Hey I'll share this with you. I've had over 20 muscle cars in my life. This C5 Z06 w/ceramic coated LT headers, bullet cats, and a corsa muffler system is the best sounding exhaust I've ever had in my life. It's fairly quiet inside the car and has zero drone at any RPM. I personally love the flowmaster classic 40 sound but on my C5's exhaust I'd not change anything. It's perfect as is. On my channel there are some vids where you can hear what it sounds like inside w/windows up. @@ronaldmartin8770 Rear gear... IMO and based on what I perceive you want... change the rear gear first. You may decide you like it just that way as it'll give you a lot more 5-60mph TQ to the tires. Also I've tuned (Fords) automatic transmissions. Going w/steep gears in the rear, and changing the tunes shift points made for a very different driving experience. I upped the shift points by 1mph low, 1.5 in medium throttle, and 2-3mph in high throttle. I did the same w/shift firmness (pressure and shift milliseconds) and it was awesome. Shifted like stock at light throttle. Firm-ish at medium throttle, and tire barking at full throttle.

Man I'm looking at a '99 6 speed manual c5 with 140k miles on it for $10k. Is that a viable option? I know the LS1s are BEASTS but I want to drive this thing for years and eventually supercharge it, amongst other things.

If you're really going to supercharge it, go for a 2001 and newer. They have larger torque tube internals on the manual transmission and will hold up much better. Good luck sir!

Hellcat 4,400+lbs ZL1 3,900+lbs Mustang 5.0 3,700+ lbs. You are way below that. Mpg is a big concern to me and California smog leaves me with little options.

I have a 2002 c5 z06 act twin disc clutch longtube headers ati balancer nitto nt01 tires and a speed density tune she made 651whp did returned last year now she's making 670whp. She's fast!!! I don't know what she would do in the 1/4 mile, never tracked it!

5.9k for the kit and $1500 or so to install & tune = 200+ more HP. It is a lot, but $ per horsepower is hard to beat when people are spending 2k for 30 HP from headers.

Local MN guy here as well. Was looking at doing a procharger or the A&A kit, decided on doing a cammed LS3 swap since my buddy had one laying around and sold it to me for cheap. (doesn't mean i can't add boost to that motor down the road either!)

I like power and love my C5 Vert, and don't deny that more power would be great. However, after adding 20+ into body and interior mods, 14+G's CAN for a pro-charger or even a supercharger, is a pretty hard pill to swallow for a car that's only worth a little over 20G. 5-6G for heads and a cam seems a little more reasonable and still gives solid gains for a car that is light as a feather. :)

Love the video BUT just bolting on this kit and getting it tuned will NOT get you up to 580 whp or a 130 mph trapspeed Comeon man $8k will get you in the door Proper fueling is expensive

Hrm, let's see, what's the fastest way to get to needing to replace the 20 year old engine in my C5? I know! Add a supercharger! Don't be surprised when said supercharger blows out the 20 year old gaskets and things go sideways. Then once you fix all that, you'll find that all those old 20 year parts downstream while on paper can take 600hp, in reality and after the 77k miles of use, they just don't really like too much more than the stock hp and so they give up the ghost. But hey then you can upgrade the rear end and beef up the tranny and then you'll ride until you blow a rod. And then you will have spent more time money blood sweat and tears than just buying something new with your desired horsepower. Don't ask how I know.

My 10 speed mustang gt with cat delete and e85 Absolutely destroyed my co workers supercharged c5 and I gave him a big hit I just said go and when he was about 2 cars out I hit it and reeled him in instantly I let him get in boost so no excuse he now knows that his car alot slower

No doubt something isn’t right. My c6 ls3 with headers high flow cats and a tune used to pull those mustangs all day long. Now that it’s supercharged I wouldn’t even waste my gas on playing with a mustang.

I agree - 11.50 is slow but my track uses NHRA rules (insurance) so if I go under I might get the boot. Also, If I used some good drag radials to get a good launch - (1.6 60' time vs 2.0) The odds of littering the track with diff chunks and fluid goes up a LOT. 130mph is fun for sure - thanks for the comment!
