My completely stock 4l60E held up on my C5 for 28000 miles at 6 PSI. Another 9000 miles at 10 PSI .When I went to 14 lbs it died after 4 very fast 1/4 mile runs. It had 712 RWHP and 647 torque on a mustang dyno when it blew.

Great video. I'm doing my clutch first act twin disc. Break it in then supercharged. Can't wait it's killing me July is when the clutch gets done. We need to see more driving vids. At least I can watch some of those while I wait lol.

The shop I'm dealing with is booked agp customs in NewMarket ontario canada. There the best shop around in my area. And we are in lock down up here.

I had an ACT twin disc on my Novi 1500 C6Z06. I actually liked it more than my tilton even though it rattled to high heaven. I like to slip my clutch on launch and the ACT could slip well. I was getting 1.6 60’s on NT05Rs. I’m on a Texas Speed 427 and YsiV7B and a tilton twin because the ACT wasn’t strong enough on paper and I’m not going back in that soon after a new motor. Don’t do a tilton unless you like to shake as the clutch grabs and the motor mounts bounce. It just sticks to quickly and the pedal weight when hot is a hundred pounds I’d swear. You’ll be happy with the ACT.

Had an 02 C5Z for about 2 years; didn’t supercharge it. I traded the C5Z for a 2011 C6 GS. I added an Edelbrock E-force, headers, etc. Put down 520 Hp/Tq to the wheels. Upgraded the clutch to Monster LT1-S twin disk. Been 2 years now, no problems.

I have an LS2 with an Eforce and small cam on E makes 605 whp. The 6L80e trans is good but for how long is anyones guess.

What a great timely video for me. Have 01z (18k miles) in for ecs supercharger and cam. (Already headers, xpipe, etc) Will be interesting...i love my drag radials too. Im not a clutch dump type of guy..but im mentally preparing for either clutch, diff, or output shaft failures. But sort of game...curious how long the stock will last. (I did add a diff brace..reduced wheel hop substantially..similar to your other vid). Got great flatbed towing with my roadside service ready to go..lol. Your channel bar none is my favorite c5 videos. Keep it up. I would love to see more test and tune vids..you experimenting making 60 ft times quicker and stuff like that. Im going to c6z shocks soon to hopefully eliminate remaining drivetrain shudder.

@@Toys4Life - Columbus Ohio. I would not say I am easy on the car. I do not power shift it. But I do snatch the gears in it quickly. On the fence to build this C5Z of mine with a TR6060 and ZR1 Diff or just find a 08 and newer C6 and build it next. Shooting for 1100 to 1200 rwhp on the next one.

My dream is to have a Monster twin disc, 12mm torque tube, TR6060 and a C6Z diff. Only problem is that costs what the car is worth lol. Great video Toys. Your add in example clips were awesome. I have a 97 trans and I know it's not up to the task other than cruising and no power shifting ever.

Thank you Sir! You could upgrade you M6 to the 2002 and new torque tube - that would help a lot. But I agree, if I ever seek HUGE power with slicks - the TR6060 setup and C6Z diff is the way to go. P.S. When will you be putting out an update vid on your new supercharger setup?? Cheers!

Have a 2002 C5 Z06. It's been through a few 'incarnations' with the drive train. In the 'dumbest' incarnation it had a 427 twin turbo from LPE dynoed at 710 RWHP and 800 RWTQ. Had to install a Carolina twin disk clutch and a DTE race diff. It was going though diffs like shit through a goose. Also installed an oil cooler and diff/tranny cooler as well as oversized alum radiator and double adjustable coil overs. Tracked the car a lot on road courses, never dragged it. Am a nationally certified instructor. Car was a handful as a twin turbo on a road course. Throttle application had to be done gently and smoothly or it simply lit the tires up. Ran Lime Rock entirely in 4th/5th gear as 3rd was useless due to wheel spin. Would have preferred the non-Z06 taller gear ratio rather than the shorter Z06.Turbos burned up lots of underhood stuff even though it was heat-shielded and I had a Kerry Hitt air extraction hood. Wouldn't go that route again. Car ran best as a N/A 427 and the coil overs completely altered the handling. The stock suspension was always 'twitchy' on corner exit and the Penske's completely eliminated that behavior. Never did have any issues with the tranny even at 710 RWHP.

Even stock.....10 years ago I would notice my clutch pedal sticking when I shifted around 5700 or higher in my LS1 non Z06...I learned that I could prop the pedal back with my toes underneath the pedal, then drive normally for like you said, 10 seconds or so....and then maybe tap the clutch and do a mid pump or two....and that would help build clutch pressure again...its a pain. I changed out my clutch fluid to DOT4, which increases the fluids ability to absorb moisture and prevent boiling (which reduces clutch pressure and allows it to stick)...changing to DOT4 helped alot, you just have to change it more frequently...so every 6 months normal driving, or after some drag passes, II change out my clutch fluid. It still sticks with 6250 rpm shifts, but def not as bad.

In my research when mine first did this I found that brand new C5's of all varieties were know for this. Lingenfelter investigated the issue and cam up with their clutch spring kit as a semi-fix. I am convinced the pressure plate cannot handle high RPMs because once I changed to a monster clutch with a NEW stock slave cylinder and my same OLD clutch master I can shift at 6500 all day long with no issues. I do blead my clutch fluid once a year or so now - I put in a remote bleeder when I did the clutch. Thanks for the comment!!

Like mentioned the pressure plate “fingers” get weak and cause the dead pedal. The only fix it to replace the clutch with a better unit

Automatics with 3.15s have the same differential carrier as the manual cars so all of the components are interchangeable with them.

OK, another excellent video. I have a question for you with regards to "using your tires as a sort of fuse". As you know there are a couple different driving modes in the C5. I am wonder which one would be the best to avoid damage from a supercharger. I am thinking COMPETITIVE MODE with all the traction control and other handling stuff turned OFF--since tire spin might be my savior. What do you think?

I think active handling off is best. There may be a way to tune it, but I believe the traction control is set up anticipating stock horsepower levels. I think it's a little slow to react when supercharged- but it still does. I haven't really examined adjusting the tune or if it's even possible because I just shut it all off for drag racing.

Not a C5 but I started with the worst combo. A 30000 mile C6 LS2, 6L80e 6 speed auto. It had an Edelbrock E force, 6psi charger when I bought the car and has always been well maint. I had the trans serviced, old fluid was clean. Then I added Kooks full no cats exh. and Borla ATAK mufflers, CompCams 222/228 cam on 114 LSA, 566/571 lift, push rods & rocker mods. Kept stock stall. Also, Flex fuel, A&A twin fuel pumps to ID1050x injectors a smaller 3.50 blower pulley for 9-10psi and tuning. Makes 605whp/570wtq Its always on MT 315 35 17 DRs. I dont drag race. Roll race only. I do all the BEST practices, No pointless smokey burnouts. Drives like a stock car. We shall see how long the trans lasts. All work & tune done at Speed Inc. in Chicago, they did a great job.

I've been researching c6s and I agree, that six-speed automatic seems to be a weak spot. I hope yours stays together because six gears is better than four, unless they break!!

My C5Z A&A blown + cam/meth etc making 700’s whp car has 56k miles on it 6 speed shifts smooth & crisp w/ MGW shifter/lower box & changing fluid w/ Amsoil ATF every 5-10k miles have had no issues performance wise. I have noticed some weeping of fluid from the tranny after a long drive, but I think that has stopped since the last fluid change may have been overfilled a bit & coming out of vent cap after expanding

That's a ton of horsepower at the wheels, I figure I have about 530. Have you run it at the track, what sort of mile per hours does she obtain? Curious, why are you changing the transmission fluid so often?

@@Toys4Life yeah I wouldn’t say you “get used” to the power @ WOT (particularly when weather is 75 or lower) but as you know the way these A&A blowers make boost esp w/ the hearing of the C5Z the power comes on hard & heavy in the upper 1/3 of the RPM range so you can drive it around “normally” for the most part w/o it feeling crazy. I change the tranny fluid that often for 2 reasons, 1 being the first time I swapped it out years ago after installing an MGW shifter & while liking the new shift feel it still didn’t seem perfect so I swapped the fluid w/ fresh Amsoil ATF & the shift feel/smoothness was so immediately apparent directly after it made me a fan. 2nd is I get it up on blocks to change the oil @ the end of every driving season before winter (live in NE) so while it’s up there I change the trans fluid since it’s so damn easy & I tend to drive it about 5k a year, I’ve skipped a year before so sometimes 10k lol

Question - I have a 2001 C5 Corvette, 32,000 MI, BTR stage 3, vararam intake, x-pipe, cat delete, Corsa extreme exhaust, LS6 intake, long tube headers and upgraded lifter kit. I'm currently making 412 at the wheel horsepower, I am experiencing the clutch issue. Will a vortec V1 fit the LS1 C5. Can't find a lot of it other than the V2 and V3

Will supercharging survive the new EPA purge going on? I hope so,but what I have read about it,the EPA is banning bigger fuel injectors and hi pro tunes. You typically need bigger fuel injectors for forced induction

I have 70k on my original LS6 clutch. I’m thinking about installing the base A&A kit. I don’t abuse my car and won’t be out tearing it up constantly. You think the OEM clutch could live a bit?

Yes, just make sure you are letting the clutch lock before the foot goes back to the floor and it should last a while. Also, my LS cultch was fine for one season after the SC- but when I went drag racing and shifted conservatively it did not slip- but it did not like shifting above 6200 rpms - started sticking to the floor which is a common stock LS1/LS6 clutch issue and the subject of MANY discussions.

All depends on how you drive the car. My ‘99 stock diff failed from hard launches at the track when my car was NA heads and cam 391/379 at the wheels with 80k miles on the clock. My single rib 4.10 diff failed at 20k miles my first launch at the track in 2020 @ 418/388rwp. My stock 3 rib 3.42 Z06 diff with shotpeened gears has held up for 40k miles 8k of which at 640/568 rwp (no returns to the track). So no track days and hard launches on prepped surfaces with sticky tires the stock diffs can and will hold up for a long while.

That is enough power for sure, I don't think you would run out of gear - but to be honest I have not really thought much about going past 140 or so. Hmmmm, Texas Mile??

Thanks handy to know. I have a cammed C5 with 380whp however on aggressive launch I too have experienced wheel hop in the rear. Do you have a vid on how to reinforce or address this matter aside from cheap tyres?

Not sure, a lot of work, especially if you have to pay somebody a shop rate of 100 plus per hour. If you had a donor car and we're doing the work yourself it might be worth it. But that's not what you asked.

I made an exact video about that, like the top five reasons not to supercharger C5. Certain activities are much more likely to cause piston damage than others so I think it depends on your intended use amount of power etc.

Used car prices are way up, including Corvettes. There's a shortage! I'm not sure how long it's going to take for the manufacturers to supply the market and bring it back into balance....

I’m in the Cities area and there have been a decent amount of C5’s selling for $13-16K, but they sell extremely quick. Check fb marketplace and don’t be afraid to travel a bit further out for a quality car. There’s an ‘02 coupe in Fargo, ND for $15K. Just check the mileage and make sure it’s in good condition! I just picked up an ‘01 Coupe w/ 81,000mi for $13,500. Two owners and extremely clean inside & out. Just gotta check frequently and reach out right away!
