There is always neverending question while racing: "Should I slow down, grab a drink and loose pack or be thirsty but continue with the pack?" So I try to always have two bottles with me becouse pack is not going to wait for you. Viktor - again great video.

Did you use 3 or 4 wheels? How big were the wheels?

@@echo1983 I trained with both 4x110 and 3x125 but on race day decided on 3x125.

Record a marathon with Go pro, there are several videos like this, but none of an elite athlete would be a differential.

Thanks for the great video Viktor. Lots of good info here. I know its a bit of added work, but having a link to the videos that you refer to during your video would be awesome. Thanks again! Looking forward to trying my hand at a marathon later this year.

Be careful overhydrating (Hyponatremia) before a marathon. Good to practice before racing and not over do it on race day (keep things similar to the long practice days)

Hej Viktor. What is your take on a hi-low frame (110-100-110-110). I am thinking that reduces the height and is adding a single 100mm wheel really that much slower? I am new to the lower cut speed skate and thinking that could be a good place to start.

Hi 😊 I’ve been on hi-lows for a season or two in my early senior years. For marathons or road races on larger circuits I would stick with 110mm. That said, I think there’s a lot to win on tight tracks and especially for indoor skating. If your main focus is straight away road skating, I would do 110mm right away :)

I'm hoping to do my first marathon later this year in Berlin so all this info is great help. I have some freestyle skates (Powerslide Next) that are super comfy and I skate 3x125mm. I'm from an aggressive skating background so these boots feel good to me but I'm very tempted to upgrade to a carbon skate - just not sure if they would be wasted on someone who is only doing their first marathon!

The only upgrade at this point good for you i.m.o. would be soemthing like a beginner marathon skate as rollerblade E2 or something with an intermediate cuff. A carbon hardboot would make you suffer and get you nowhere (unless you maybe train really really hard for 4-5 Months) cause even if you have skated you whole live speed skating technique is something totally different. The ankle strenght and body mechnics is something we aggressive skater think we have but acutally we don´t.

I have the same background, but currently I do only urban skating on 125s. I'm also doing my first marathon this year (Berlin:). I bought carbon low cuff skates and I love them. They are 3x125mm, and I am able to fly on them. They are not super comfy but I think it's a matter of time. When they roll, they roll... Only stopping and turning it is a bit funny ;D

Shorter frames are more maneuverable. Shorter frames are slower, but by how much? 3x125mm wheels allow a shorter frame (from 255mm to 325mm) than 4x110mm (335mm). Thoughts on where the cross over is (295mm possibly)?
