I believe you saved my chickens. We had a family of mice move into our chicken yard and they gave almost our whole flock lice. We spent all day yesterday cleaning and spraying the coop down, and wrangled all twenty chickens to spray them with the Elector PSP and today it was a brand new flock. Behavior was calm. Preening was down. Everyone was energenic for food and not as much squabbling and feather pecking. Have you ever had lice that survived this treatment? First time I used it so I worry if I missed any. We had pretty drenched chickens and a drenched chicken holder (my husband😄), so hopefully they are all dead. I am so thankful they seem to have relief! Thank you so much.

I'm new to chicken ownership. I have also been a wild bird feeder and identifier especially since buying a farm very close to the Mississippi River. We get migrating birds from the southern tip of South America here for the spring mating season. My heart is so hurting now that I have to stop that because my birds just infested my 8 chickens. One of them has died and it was a horrific slow death because I didn't know what it was or how to treat it. Thank you so much for this video on his taught us an immense amount of how to protect our rooster and remaining for hens! With all the research we've done, even though I was leaning towards prefering my oils and garlic, they just can't compare to this simple and eradicating solution. Thank you thank you thank you thank you so much you 2! We're very grateful! We're buying it online today from a company we found the cheapest so far at 150.00.

I've found plain wood ash works really well too Throw a big bucket in the area your chicken takes a dust bath and they'll do it themselves The chickens really like taking a bath in ashes anyway I usually just take a whole bunch of pine shavings in a clean fire pit and set it on fire and use the ash from that
@BockBockBouquet

We always used nicotine miticide/pesticide because it is highly effective and all natural. It is organic and extracted from tobacco, so there are no petrochemicals at all. It's applied to the roosts and nesting boxes but not directly to the chickens. You don't want skin contact either. Regular annual treatment is required for all treatments as wild birds can bring the pests back. Good to see you found another effective treatment. 👍

I ordered this right away. My wife and I have been dusting our chickens with a permethrin poultry dust weekly for a while and using an enzyme spray. After weeks we still have mites. I really like that this is a spray that I can use on them and the coop. I like your technique of pulling back feathers gently and spraying, your hen stayed pretty relaxed. With the powder we have to hold our chicken upside down and sometimes the just don't enjoy and seem stressed. Can't wait to apply this product.
@BockBockBouquet
@BockBockBouquet Год назад
Hope you had great results! I noticed the permethrin dust was not nearly as strong as the liquid solution is killing parasites. Maybe there just isn’t enough of a dosage in it. I feel the liquid is safer to not be inhailed as well

@@rockwilliams457 yes this will treat mites, that are just more tricky to get rid of because you must also treat the coop very well. They hide in nooks and crannies in the wood work and come out at night to suck their blood. Where as lice stay on their host. Mites can bite you and be more nuisance. Make sure to spray their housing very well and clean out and replace all bedding and treat all birds

I raise Hawaiian wild chickens, I so wish it was that easy for me. My best defense has been diatomaceous earth. I use it in there feed as well, so when I broadcast the feed it goes on the ground, and the dust drifts into there body. This also takes care of worms. Also use Neem as a spray to clean with, it also does a good job of killing mites and lice, but does not kill the eggs, and has to be reapplied. Currently in the fifth, to sixth generations and they are becoming more trusting. Many have befriended me. So hopeful over time they can become more tame. They are beautiful birds, and truly worth preserving.

Concentrated Liquid Spinosad either in the garden center, farm or feed store. Dog fleas and ticks, ratio 1:13 add to something like gravy. Once a month. Chicken lice and coop spray. Ratio: 1tbs per 2 quarts of water. This stuff is alive and is temperature sensitive. Mix with tepid water only. Cannot use in the coop or on poultry when temps are 85 to 90 degrees or higher. Light kills it. Apply it at sunset for greater efficacy. In the coop, close the door so it will be dark or apply at sunset. This also kills human lice AND nits in one shot. Fair warning: Over use or long term use can contribute to ecological immunity. It’s a bacteria, after all. I love the stuff!

@@judithmauldin5347 We still fully stand behind elector psp being a miracle, best cure for lice and mites. Sadly yes, it will not kill the fowl ticks. We had to use orange guard for the structure and permethrin for the birds specifically for the tick. We would rather use a safer option of elector for lice and mites, than the harsher chemicals like permethrin personally. I definitely think that diatomaceous earth is a treatment, and preventative.. but it’s going to take a little more commitment which I’m fine with. Another thing that works is home made garlic spray!! Blend a few cloves of garlic in some water, strain it and pour liquid into a spray bottle and do the same thing. Spray the chickens and the coops and roosting bars. You could also put a drop of neem oil in there guess or if you have a neem tree growing you could add some neem leaves to the garlic in the blender

It’s not your fault at all, do not beat yourself up ❤️ we treated our flock over a year ago now and we haven’t seen one mite or lice since. Feels so good to live pest free. Make sure you spray the eggs on the feather shafts well, so they die and do not hatch.

@@BockBockBouquet I soaked those areas. I unfortunately have a lot of wild birds (finch/sparrow/starling) that come in the barn so I'm afraid they will get mites again sooner rather than later😵

@@jessicaaguayo1381 oh let’s hope not! We have lots of wild sparrows and ravens as well, luckily we haven’t had a relapse yet. Adding adult chickens with an infestation from someone else’s flock it’s probably the easiest way to get a pest problem again

@@BockBockBouquet Ok, LAST question.. I just found a mite on me after being with the babies. Is it normal to still see one or two after treatment?

@@jessicaaguayo1381 no they should all be gone, if they came in contact with the solution….maybe they are hiding in some infrastructure. Try spraying the living areas more. Sorry!

MaryAnne Rigo. They can’t survive long term, but they can survive for at least a week without the chicken and as I say they bite you and the itch seems to last forever, depending on how sensitive you are to the bite. You have to be careful not to reintroduce them, so that means not even patting the chickens if it is a bad infestation. The mites then stay in your house until they die off. You can see them running across your screens of your iPad or mobile phones sometimes. (The light seems to attract them). We are talking about something not much bigger than the size of a full stop “.” Remember, so they are hard to find, until they bite you.

@@bigrocc3925 . Don’t give up . It is a miserable existence for a while and they are attracted to screens, but if you keep pushing they will die off. Also, they are seasonal and as the weather changes they will eventually disappear altogether for a few months.

👍Good info. Thank you. We’ve been fortunate. We use lots of diatomaceous earth & redwood shavings in the chicken house. The older hens teach the chicks to avoid eating the wood pieces. Their coop smells good & they have no bugs. Plus we provide a plastic tub with the powder (diatomaceous earth - Amazon) so the hens can give themselves a nice dust bath. It’s like tiny razor sharp particles that cut up the tiny blood sucking insects. We even put some mixed in with their food. Once you get the infestation under control keep it away with diatomaceous earth.

today I saw an interesting video with a tip for getting rid of red mites, I dont know if it works with other kinds in mites or not - but this guy used double sided sticky tape he got from a dollar store, and wrapped it around the entire end of the each perch/roost bar. it traps the mites and you can actually see them stuck on the tape in the morning. he does this daily until he sees no more mites. this is in addition to other treatment of course. the tape comes in a roll and it looks yellow but thats just the stuff that it is attached to. it is actually clear when you unroll it. hope this helps someone out there!

Just came across this video today. My roo has lice BAD. I didn’t catch it til recently. He does not dust bath like the girls do, a lot of times he just stands there while they bathe. I ordered some of this and hope it works! Thank you for the info in this video! Super helpful!❤

Sounds like my rooster. He's a white leghorn, so I feel like he doesn't want to get his white feathers all gray.

I whitewash coop with hydrated lime. I am going to also try the double sided sticky tape on the ends of roost. I’ve also put a drop of ivermectin on each chicken which helps.

Would Elector PSP work for scaly leg mites too?
@alyssar8245
@alyssar8245 Год назад
Awesome! Thank you so much for the information. My order of Elector PSP came today and I will definitely be treating my small flock this weekend. Poor girl that I though was being over-mated by my roo had lice upon closer inspection. Now all my other girls are scratching and pecking themselves and their feathers are looking a bit frayed. It’ll be fun trying to treat the girls as our roo is very protective of them despite being the newest member, but I’m desperate to help my poor babies before they end up getting sick. I’m not sure how severe it is as this is my first ever time dealing with lice. A few have dirty vents so I’ll Trim their feathers first. With infestations where you can see the lice moving when you part feathers, would it be better just to dip them into the prepared solution or stick to spraying?
