I had Creeping Charlie in my back yard for years and had tried several different herbicides to get rid of it without success until I found this Triclopyr Ester. It does take 3-4 weeks to see results. The Creeping Charlie did come back the next year but to a much lesser extent so I applied the Triclopyr (pronounced TRI - klo - peer) Ester again with better results this time and now my back yard is Creeping Charlie free. THIS STUFF WORKS ON CREEPING CHARLIE. My neighbors on both sides still have Creeping Charlie in their yards and I have offered to help them with it, but they declined so every now and then when the Creeping Charlie gets close to my property I will "accidentally" get a little dose in to their yards. Also, I DO use a surfactant with this herbicide with very good results.

Creeping Charlie and Wild Violets have been taking over my lawn for about 4 years and I have been unable to find anything that will get rid of them....until now. I just happened upon this video while checking to see what Ryan Knorr was up to lately and thought I'd check it out. Can't thank you enough. Triclopyr worked great! I could see it was working within 24 to 48 hours and after exactly 2 weeks any weed it touched was dead even the Wild Violet. Great stuff.

I've been using triclopyr on my yard for several years but primarily to get rid of clover that keeps coming back. This product also takes care of dandelions and every other weed that invades the lawn. Triclopyr is actually formulated for killing brush and it does a good job of it so be careful around shrubs and other desirable plants.

Wanted to share that here on Illinois, I applied in July and had mixed results. Ironically, in area where they was almost no lawn grass, the weed was almost fully eliminated. On the lawn where creeping Charlie is mixed in, it didn’t have much effect. I will be applying again for Labor Day now that daytime temps are in the 70s and 80s to see if results are better. Also I’ve heard that mixing 2-4-D in as a combo can yield good results. Thoughts?
@TheLawnLover
@TheLawnLover 28 дней назад
Mixing 24D into the mix will definitely make it more potent on some other broadleaf weeds, but I am unsure if it will make the triclopyr more effective on the creeping charlie because I personally have not tried it. Depending on how bad your creeping charlie outbreak is, it definitely may require a few applications to full kill it. Mine took 2 applications to fully get rid of it. You will likely have better success in the lower temps. Good luck!

Thanks for the sub, I appreciate it! If you are looking to kill crabgrass (but not your lawn), you want the active ingredient "Quinclorac". Most herbicides at the box stores include this in them, but if you have a bad crabgrass outbreak, I would go with something stronger (with a higher active ingredient of quinclorac). Using a surfactant (or a little dish soap) in the mix will help it stick to the leaf blades better and work more effectively.

What's a surfactant?
@TheLawnLover
@TheLawnLover 4 месяца назад
A surfactant is a liquid you can add to spray mixes to help thr herbicide stick to the weeds.
@StevenDietrich-k2w
@StevenDietrich-k2w 4 месяца назад
A surfactant is a wetting agent. Basically, it reduces the surface tension of a liquid so that the liquid can spread out and cover the object (in this case a leaf) more evenly, rather than just bead up and cover a much smaller area. The more of the chemical that comes in contact with the leaf, the better it will work.

Michael - thanks for reaching out! If you have pictures of the weed you are referencing, please email them to me at (thelawnlover@hotmail.com) so I can take a look and try to help you. Surfactant is a liquid additive that you add to your tank for herbicides that helps the herbicide adhere to the leaf blades - typically making them more effective. This was not referenced on the label when I shot this video, but I was advised by customer support at domyown.com that the manufacturer did not recommend a surfactant with the product. Apparently they have since updated their product label since I shot this video based on a viewer comment that I received last week. I always just mow as usual and then apply the herbicide and allow it a few days to sit before mowing again. Typically, the creeping charlie is so low to the ground that it does not get mowed, so it should not really matter, this is just my personal preference. I appreciate you watching the videos and supporting the channel - I am glad you find the content helpful!

I was so excited to see this video from The Lawn Lover to finally rid my lawn of Creeping Charlie. I purchased the Hi Yield Triclopyr, followed the video using a Hudson sprayer, treating the Creeping Charlie per instructed with 3/4 oz per gallon of water and now three weeks later it looks like it was never touched! The weed looks like it is just fine, the only thing changed is my grass has yellowed wherever I sprayed! I took before and after pictures and the creeping charlie looks the same. So disappointed, wasted so much time and the cost of the product. 🙁

I am sorry you did not have success with this product on your creeping charlie. I sprayed mine twice and it killed it off and remains clear of the creeping charlie two years later since I now apply pre emergent in that area. Several others in the comments also had great success with it as well. The only thing I would say about the yellowing grass is what was the air temp when you applied it? You definitely want to apply this when the air is cooler - I am not sure where you are located. Once the grass recovers, I would spray the creeping charlie again to see if you have better success. Thanks for watching, good luck

I only wore the sandals when mixing it, definitely not when spraying it. I will say that this product worked very well for me and totally eliminated my issue after two applications last summer. I did use a pre-emergent back there this spring and it remains Creeping Charlie free back there. Thanks for watching and good luck getting rid of the Creeping Charlie!

Thanks for a great video. I followed your directions. It works. One thing- the directions on my label say " if a surfactant is used, apply 1-2 quarts per acre". Not sure the difference??

Where did this weed come from, like someone produced it. Growing up always playing some type of sport on grass I’ve never seen this before
@TheLawnLover
@TheLawnLover Год назад
It seems to be much more common in shaded areas and around trees (likely due to the shade). This grew thick in the shaded area in my back lawn where it gets very little sun - which allowed it to thrive back there. The areas of my lawn that get more sun do not have this issue. It sure is a pain to get rid of, but this product in the video worked perfectly for me. Thanks for watching!

I'm not familiar with creeping Jenny but I would be willing to bet it would likely kill it too, so if you are wanting to keep it I wouldn't use the triclopyr. Thanks for watching!

@TheLawnLover
@TheLawnLover 3 месяца назад
I would refer you to the product label, but if I recall it was safe for people and pets to reenter the treatment area once dried. I typically like to spray herbicides or fungicides in the evening and let them sit overnight before reentering the area. This stuff works perfectly when used as directed. Good luck!

I thought stolons were above ground and rhyzomes were under ground. No? Does creeping charlie have that swamp smell when you mow it? And mostly in heavy shade areas?
@TheLawnLover
@TheLawnLover Год назад
You are correct, the stolons are right at the surface and spread horizontally. I have never had it smell terrible when I mow it, but it does tend to like very shady areas away from sunlight. Thanks for watching!

Looking to do an area of 10 feet by 10 feet. How much of it would I use? The directions are so bad.
@TheLawnLover
@TheLawnLover Год назад
To get the mix ratio correct, I personally would mix up enough for 1k sq feet as the label suggests and spray the area you are treating. You can then dispose of the rest in an inconspicuous area not near grass or other plants. Mixing in a smaller batch is tough because if that ratio is incorrect it won't work as intended

How to get fid of fox tail
@TheLawnLover
@TheLawnLover 2 года назад
I would not use this product on foxtail in your lawn. Foxtail is similar to crabgrass - being an annual weed that grows in bunches with seed heads. You will want to use a selective herbicide like a Tzone or something similar to kill it off. Then you want to follow a good pre emergent strategy and overseed regularly to choke any of it from sprouting in the future. Thanks for watching!

Is Hi-Yield Trclopyr Ester safe to use on my Periwinkle vinca vine beds to control the creeping Charlie invasion, in other words will it kill the creeping Charlie but not the desired Periwinkle?
@TheLawnLover
@TheLawnLover Год назад
If it were me, I would NOT use this in a flower bed or where you have other plants present that you want to keep. It is a herbicide, and a strong one at that - so I would be weary of using it around other plants I wanted to keep - especially if those plants are in a similar class as the Creeping Charlie. I think your only option is hand pulling and it will keep coming back due to the fact that it grows underground. Thanks for watching!

FYI you should mention this in the video, yes this Product will help wipe out some creeping Charlie. HOWEVER…..if you have Bermuda grass or prolly any other Warm season short cut turf. This product used in a flowzone 4 gallon backpack. You will literally draw your name in the lawn if you use this at the suggested rate on Bermuda, like it’s hurts it super bad or nukes it. It literally looked like every time hit the sprayer it looks exactly how roundup would look. Just fyi. Eventually I got the Bermuda to come back on the clients lawn but it took forever, lol, and it’s pronounced TRI….. clow……PEER. again I suggest using this product mainly on cool season turf

To add to the information that has been given by other folks. It's best to spray in the fall. This will weaken the plant over winter. The other time is after flowering in the spring. The plant will have used alot of energy to flower. If your neighbor has creeping charlie, ask if you can spray their lawn where it connects to your lawn. You will have to spray every year to stop theirs from creeping to your yard.
@TheLawnLover

@TheLawnLover
@TheLawnLover Месяц назад
If you apply as directed, it will NOT kill the majority of cool season grass types. You need to be careful with this herbicide on warm season grasses - check the label for specifics. I would be careful applying this in a flower bed to ensure you are not getting this herbicide on any desirable plants that you want to keep because it will kill them. Thanks for watching!
