Once they're roosting, encourage the chook to stand up on the perch and use a sprayer bottle. I spray the perches with an oil also ✌🏼

We just noticed a chicken with this and my hubby wanted an easier alternative to coating with Vaseline every night for a week (that’s what I read). I think he will appreciate this method. Thank you for sharing.

Hi, I’m in Australia so I don’t know if our foot mites are the same. However my flock of 18 got them from wild birds, so I cleaned there feet with a soft nail brush and warn water with washing liquid then dried them. Then covered there feet with petroleum jelly. And let them do there thing. I then planted rosemary and pyrethrum daisy throughout there pen. (Both plants help prevent mites and other bugs). It’s now been 8 years and it never came back even though my neighbour has an aviary full of pigeons with mites. By the way I only needed to do the treatment once some people go back a few days later depending on weather the petroleum jelly has come off. Oh and if it gets really bad I’ve been told to dip there feet in mite solution between the drying and petroleum jelly. Some products will then carry through the blood stream and kill worms and other types of mites on the feathers and cones. Good luck with your feathery baby’s, from Paula in South Australia 🐓 🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🪿🪿🪿🦆🦆🦆🦆🦚🦚 🦃 🦃 Yer my pen is now 2 acres so my flock has got bigger. 😀

The Chickenlandia lady doesn't recommend petroleum-based products like vaseline. I can't remember why.

You probably should put a bunch of permethrin powder in your coop's litter.

I dont know If that is available in america but it is much easier to Just Spray the feet with some ballistol oil Spray. It is completely Safe for animals and Humans and is also used to wipe down dogs ears and on horses. And a Natural shield against mosquitos for Humans 🙂
@SlackerU

@@hevesat1920 on the description of ballistol oil is mentioned that it CAN be used fir guns, but i dont have no knowledge about what gun oil exactly is. Maybe where you live there is an equivalent to ballistol oil, i dont know. I only know that the ballistol oil is perfectly Safe for Humans and animals to use on skin.

I don’t know if you’ll see this comment because I know this video was made quite a while ago, but I have a question. We are currently treating one of our hands for bumble foot so she has a bandages on her feet and we also noticed that she has a few raised scales. She doesn’t have a lot of raise scales so we’veneeded to treat her for possible scaly leg mites, but I didn’t know if I should dip her feet in the oil or if I should put Vaseline over the exposed parts above the bandages for the bumble foot?

How long do you soak their legs in vegetable oil?

When I'm finished treating the flock, I always invite my friends for fish & chips, fried in the used oil... Mhh... No waste...
@bun9000

When you dipped her in Elector, did you let her soak for 10m? I've heard similar people saying Elector didn't work but they didn't soak, and others saying a 10m soak is what is recommended. I almost want to do both - elector *and* vegetable oil dips lol.
@bun9000

Follow up question - did you spray anything on the premise to prevent them from returning or did they just die because they couldn't find a host or reproduce?
@SlackerU

You should be using that Bag-Balm petroleum jelly with the sulfur in it, IDK why veg-oil would be suggested. Intaking hens is the worst idea. I too took in one & it had all the mites, lice, & cancer-causing STDs causing me to lose all my non-vaccinated hens.
