I've had a Nord Stage 73 "classic" for many years now and finally decided to upgrade, but before selling it on I'd like to share with you guys how I get around those issues that may make it feel a bit old and dated.
Sorry for all of the rambling....
TL; DR:
The sounds I've loaded in this video are:
"Bright Grand" Yamaha S4
EP8 "Nefertiti" 1970 Rhodes Suitcase Mk I
EP6 1967 Rhodes "Sparkle top"
EP1 MK I Low Deep
Clavinet D6
Wurlitzer 200
As an alternative I've been running this combination for a long time:
"Italian Grand" Fazioli
EP8 "Nefertiti" 1970 Rhodes Suitcase Mk I
EP1 MK I Low Deep
Clavinet D6
Wurlitzer 200
Let me know what combinations of sounds you like to run in the comments below?

hi, is the nord stage 1 able to load sounds out of the piano library? There is one for sale at 800 Dollars (76key) do you think its good for a beginner?
@ZakiWasik
@ZakiWasik 5 лет назад
Alnico Customshop yes. It does load sounds from the piano library. But not the sample library. They just started to release updated versions in the piano library that are only compatible with NS3, though. 800US is a great deal!

I agree. The limited memory is biggest drawback of this keyboard. But the point of this video was to show that the first generation Nord Stage - despite being more than 10 years old - is still relevant for a lot of people. You can basically only load one grand piano at a time at "medium" size. But the different "qualities" of pianos sounds surprisingly equal. I'd challenge you to tell the "medium" size from the "xl" on a mixed recording. I bet you can't.
@ZakiWasik
@ZakiWasik 5 лет назад
But at 800USD it was still a steal. I would estimate market value somewhere around 1150USD.

Sorry, it' s possible to charge new sound of piano in this Nord Stage ? How? ( not with Nord Sound manager I think )...Thank you

Yes, you use the Nord Sound Manager. Just note that you need to download the v5 piano library sounds. It's not compatible with v6.

@@gerardobalestrieri I think you need an older version, then. I just went to Nords website and noticed that if you go to the page for the original Nord Stage and go to the downloads section you get an older version (5.08) compared to going to the Stage 4 where they give you version 8 of sound manager. Give it a shot. www.nordkeyboards.com/legacy-products/nord-stage/downloads/

@ZakiWasik
@ZakiWasik Месяц назад
@@gerardobalestrieri so sorry, I did not realise that it was the OS the and not Sound Manager there was downloads for. Try to ask Nord directly. You can also check norduserform.com I just found a thread where someone is uploading a version of Sound Manager from 2014. I would assume that works. But it's been years since I did the video, so I don't remember exactly what I used then. I tend to remember the UI of Sound Manager being much more basic than it is now. www.norduserforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=14428&start=10

I’ve been played for 5 years, now I wanna get a new keyboard. There’s a Nord Stage 76 (first collection) on sale, 980 USD. Should I buy it? Is it still professional? Has it great sounds?
@ZakiWasik
@ZakiWasik 4 года назад
It's still good but has some limitations as I explain in the video. I think 980USD is a little on the high side considering what a Nord Stage 2 would go for, but it's not entirely off. I got about 1200 for mine, but that's 3 years ago now. If you could get it down to around 850 I would definitely go for it.

Does it send midi notes as it's supposed to be when connected to an audio interface via midi 5pin cable?? Did you try to use it as Midi anyway? I'm trying to get one and this video helped me a lot already! Thank you!!
@ZakiWasik
@ZakiWasik 4 года назад
Yes. There are different ways you can set it up to send midi. Either you can send Panel A and B on different MIDI channels, you can send on a global MIDI channel or you can set it up so it will only send when you have the EXT section engaged. It can be a little difficult to get your head around the Nord Stage MIDI implementation, but it's actually really good once you get it set up right. It only sends and receives over the MIDI jacks, not USB. USB MIDI came with Nord Stage 2.

@@ZakiWasik Oh thank you Mr Zaki, for your reply, very kind of you and very helpful! I have a few questions that will make me go for it. - Are the keys full size and the action graded on Revision B?? - Do you think there is anything specific I should check while buying it used? - Do you think it's worth it for 1000 dollars? I will purchase it only if you recommend it. In case I will, this video will be my ultimate guide to use it. And I wish that you and your family stay safe!

I have been playing on the kawai mp7SE, after playing that for several months then going to a nord, it sounds synthetic on the piano sound though it sounds beautiful, i feel Kawai has a stronger punch in the mids and resonance and the epianos to me are the best I’ve heard on a board

Hi. What did you get instead of this one? So if you can load the most newest piano models onto this old Stage classic, that means, the old stage classic just gonna sound exactly the same (I mean the piano section) as the stage 2 (of course, with the memory limitation, etc.). I'm not using the full potential of my Stage 2 and I can get a stage classic like this for the half of my Stage 2's price, that's why I'm considering to sell my Stage 2 and get the classic instead. What do you think, the synth section is good enough in the classic too?
@kalmandavid3669
@kalmandavid3669 4 года назад
One more thing: can you load samples downloaded from the Nord's website? Or it is something that this classic cant do?
@ZakiWasik
@ZakiWasik 4 года назад
Now I've got a Nord Stage 3 and I briefly had a Nord Stage 2 as well. Indeed, given that you download the same samples they all sound the same. There is some sympathetic resonance modelling going on from the Stage 2 and upwards that does make it a little different, but that's it. But when you move on to the synth section, there are a lot of differences between models. That's the main reason I upgraded.
@kalmandavid3669
@kalmandavid3669 4 года назад
@@ZakiWasik I see, thanks! However, can you upload samples - like Strings onto this classic Stage?
@ZakiWasik
@ZakiWasik 4 года назад
@@kalmandavid3669 no, unfortunately the synth cannot pay back samples on the classic model. That was the main introduction with the Stage 2.

Bro 128 mb it's so much poor memory, any way 500 mb in the electro 6 are still not enough, Nord has to make the big step to like 5 gb at least

im having trouble with the midi output ports on the back of my nord stage 73 compact
@ZakiWasik
@ZakiWasik 5 лет назад
The MIDI setup part can be a little confusing. I suggest you read the manual carefully, for that. But most likely your keyboard is set up so you need to turn on the "Ext" section to explicitly submit MIDI. You can also setup up panel A and B to transmit on a specific channel, but I prefer using the Ext section. It's quite different than for almost any other keyboard, but really powerful when you understand how it works.

Unpopular opinion i think the new the nord the better the piano but the worse the organ my electro 2 had my favourite organ tone but the piano doesn't impress other than the rhodes
