I love Anthony. He truly loves the natural hair ladies enough to give us free advice. So amazing! I am going to start this on Sunday. I'm nervous because I lose a lot of hair detangling, but I am going to see if this improves my wash n gos.
I’ve been using this method for 2 months and for once in my life, my hair has curls. I have curls everywhere. My hair so soft, shiny and moisturized. I’m 4c and literally cowashing every day is the bees knees. I use a shampoo bar at the end of the week. Deep condition it and then follow up with the LCO method. My hair is POPPIN!!!! The more moisturized my hair got, the less product I needed. The co wash every day really makes up moisture needed in the hair. I am no longer fighting my hair and waking up looking like Frederick Douglass. Thank you Anthony!!!!
How will my low porosity hair ever dry if I wet it daily? Issa no for me chief but so fun to watch!! I see this being good for hair that dries fast. My hair takes 5 business days to dry 😩😩
I sat under a hair dryer for 15 minutes on high and it made a huge difference. So 25 to 35 minutes in shower and I sat my dryer at my kitchen table and dried for 15ish minutes while i ate and drank my coffee.
5 business days? So u saying you can order the product and by time it comes the hair is dry? Lol i feel u tho. I would like to try it tho. I dont think i ever did a wash n go on my hair.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! As weird as this sounds, I didn’t even think I had a curl. I thought my hair was just a matted mess. For the first time in 29 years my hair did something I never thought it could do. Feels amazing too. I cried a little! So much gratitude 🙏🏾
"I'm not in your business like that." LOL I love this guy. His energy is awesome and it's great to see someone so enthusiastic and positive about Type 4 hair textures. You can tell he truly loves the beauty of our hair and I think I love my hair more just from watching this.
no shade but i think this process can still be achievable with just leave in and/or the leave in gel combo. basically, apply products to soaking wet hair. got it.
And shake, shake, shake!! Also since you have so much product in your hair you can rewet in the shower or with a sprayer instead of doing the full process daily.
I have been using Anthony's method for the past three weeks; one of your videos sent me right back to review his. I had considered texlaxing my hair just so I could make washing my hair less of a chore. Listen! To! Him! I hated, HATED, wash day. I would have knots, tangles...frustrations would be end up with me with an unscheduled big chop. I can't afford his products, but I grabbed what I could and have not looked back. This method is the real deal, Holyfield! My hair hasn't looked this good, ever! And when I hit the shower, I can't wait to run my hands through curls that I didn't think I had. Keywords here: Run my hands through! I couldn't fathom doing this ever before! I have no need for oils, grease...nada. Side Note: I have low porosity hair and it takes 50-11 years for my hair to dry, but I have some satiny hair bands that I use to move my hair out my face and keep it pushing! One of these days, I'm going splurge on his products...but people! I implore you to try it! Side note: there was an O.G. natural hair RU-vidr, by the name of Cynthiarf that basically used this method and it makes total sense.
I completely agree. He says that this method will reveal your curls, and that is very true. No need to use his products, the method is everything. really simplifies hair care.
I’ve used the Anthony Dickey method since I went natural and it’s the absolute best!! I love his products but the technique/philosophy works with anything
you didn't do the title of this video justice - how about "watch Dickey mentor me through my wash n go" this was awesome to watch. yes I will try this during the summer.
I'm in DC and I went to NY for the weekend with a friend who's from there... I made an appointment just so I could get THE Anthony Dickey to do my wash and go because I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. He used those luscious products in my hair and it looked GREAT! I ordered some and had them shipped to my house... but the product goes SO FAST and the price AINT cheap. I feel like it never looked the same as when HE did it... but... I did enjoy the experience. He explained everything totally thoroughly step by step to me as he was doing my hair... made me reach my hand back into the bowl and feel my hair so I could gauge how much product was being used... He's sweet. Took pictures with me and everything... I'm a fan
Anthony, "Take that cap off!" Latoya, *Removes the cap with a quirky smile* like an obedient child. 😂😂 I enjoyed this video. Even though I don't see myself doing this everyday, he stated some valid points that I think would really help my wash and go's.
I've done the Anthony Dickey method a few times. It does produce amazing results. I prefer to do it during the summer months and I'm going to be out and about because it will be dry in just a few hours. Other than that it takes way to long to dry.
Idk if I can do daily but as a wash and go girl I wash every 4 days to combat my hair before it dries up and tangles and I’ve honestly seen more moisture and growth. This was a great video, very informative
I think his point is more about chasing dry hair, which form that perspective I agree with. Day three I KNEW I had to wash to again. It gets too dry. I told him i can do every other day max 😂
When I was a shorter/newer natural...apparently I was following this method and didn’t even know who this guy was! I just figured out that my hair absolutely LOVED when I cowashed every other day and used my wash and go styling gels and moisturizers. I had absolutely NO problems with it being dirty (it was never dirty to the point of needing clarified). The only reason I stopped is because I thought I wanted to get into twistouts and flat twist styles...and because the longer the hair, the more product you use (and that AsIAm curling jelly is NOT cheap, lol!) I think I’ll try going back to that when the weather breaks, I miss my wash and goes.
It’s used a LOT of product. I think that’s why he did use cheaper stuff daily and his stuff on shampoo days...my behind is skimpy on the products so he had to push me 😂
I died when he gave you "the look"..and then said flatly, "I'll send you some more..." 🤣 But to be honest he did provide an out when he said "or any conditioner of choice"...
This works, I did this when I had shorter hair but I'm too broke to do this still😅 AND YES DO A WEEK (or 2 😏) of this method and share the results..maybe with different products eventually since these products are kinda expensive
If you got a hot comb press and curl, the old school conditioner that was used on your hair...That is the one to get until your bank account thicken up again!
Do you know that I LITERALLY have only done a wash and go like twice in my 11 years of being natural because I was convinced that that was not a hairstyle or process that I could do, that would look good on me, or comport with my texture. I am watching this and I am so excited to do this to my hair. I love the idea of not having to twist my hair and leave it in twists all the time (I feel like over time, twisting has led to thinner strands like from root to about an inch from my roots). Thanks for the video, very instructional!
I do a modified version of this method. I cowash throughout the week with enough conditioner that I feel is necessary, rinse, apply oil, leave in or flaxseed gel on wet hair and I’m out the door. This allows me to air dry within an hour. All the conditioner and product he recommends is great for the look a lot of people want but it just didn’t mesh well with my lifestyle (or bank account for that matter lol).I know using a hooded dryer is also an option but I’m just not going to do that everyday. I’m glad I’ve been able to embrace my natural texture enough to where I don’t need to have perfected, shiny curls every day of the week. When I want that look, I know how to get.
^This whole paragraph!!! I’m sorry it’s just not realistic for me to cowash my hair with excessive amounts of conditioner every day. I moisturize my hair everyday with aloe vera and keep it protected. My hair is well on its way to becoming waist length.
I was one of your subscribers who suggested the use of the Anthony Dickey method on your last wash and go video. I love Anthony Dickey and his method works. I was fan-girling when I saw him in this video because I really miss him on RU-vid. Your wash and go is beautiful.😍😘💕. Yes to a week or two of this method video!
I love this!!! I watched this a few weeks ago and gave it a go. What I do in the shower every other day... 1. Coat hair with conditioner 2. Section and finger detangle using as much conditioner as I need 3. Rinse conditioner and shake out excess water 4. Apply ample aloe vera gel and shake out excess 5. Apply moderate amount of eco gel and shake out excess DONE Shampoo hair once a week. I'm no longer "afraid" of water or "shrinkage". I can stretch if I want, but it's not a priority. The amount of breakage and shedding has DRASTICALLY decreased. Pretty convinced I'm gonna be retaining my length this year. Thanks LaToya and Dickey!
Any tips for someone who sweats a lot? Also what kind of conditioner do you use? I’m aware that some conditioners aren’t as moisturizing as others and I deal with really dry hair
@@preciousc432 You mean, like after the gym? I just do the wash n go after the gym, even if it's in the middle of the day. And if you need to, use some kinda dryer at night. I'm using Aussie Miracle Moist.
Idk who Anthony Dickey is, but I've been saying this FOR YEARS and people would look at me like I had 5 heads. The info is 💯💯💯 and your hair came out beautifully. (The exact products aren't necessary. I've never even heard of them, but the methods are on point)
i've been wetting my hair for YEARS and was told thats the reason my hair won't retain length since going natural well, i stopped wetting daily and ended up with hair that was split almost to the roots no matter how many cuts i got i've since returned to wetting daily /every other day and i see fewer splits AND the reason my hair wasn't retaining length is because i have hypothyroidism moral of the story... listen to your hair and not other people! I agree with Anthony
Gosh! I tried this technique a few years ago and ended up with knots galore. It looks as though it worked out much better for you! Having him advise you in real time was a clever idea!
I have type 4a hair, and my wash and go's stay very defined, and moistured, an entire week 🤷🏾♂️. I've unfortunately noticed that in the natural hair community, the focus is always on whether hair is type 3 or 4, to say how well it will hold moisture and styles. Rather than focusing on porosity, which is what actually determines how often hair will need to be remoisturised.
I love him! Anthony Dickey cut and styled my hair a few years a go when I was living in New York. He is awesome! I love his products! What a pleasant Spirit.
This video is right on time-eventhough I’m THREE years late😂! Getting ready to wash my Type 4 hair and was dreading it. And strolling on RU-vid as a distraction and this popped up in my feed. My hair is dry and sheds a lot! And he is soooo right abt not waiting too long between washes to wash type 4 hair. The longer I wait, the more hair shed and break off. Which ultimately means, no length retention. I could not understand why my it was just shedding so much and came out with little to no effort. I'm doing this today and will be back to the comments with an update. Wish me luck fingers 🤞🏾❤ ******************** ‼️ UPDATE‼️ It WORKS!!! It REALLY WORKS!!! My coils are popping, popping!!! I might not do this every day… HOWEVER, I will do it every 4 days or so. ( 2X a week)*** *********************
The way he said "de-bush" and him saying we're supposed to use globs of conditioner was not working for me. Even if I had the money to spend on using a container of conditioner every day, and the desire to do so without using a regular strength shampoo, and the porosity to air dry in less than a day (even using heat), and the arm strength to distribute the product, I don't think I would want to do this.
His RU-vid channel changed my hair’s life! You can’t tell me nothin’ now! I mastered the wash n go and have my best hair ever, now I’m going to grow it Rapunzel long.
The real god of wash and go’s is Tameeka aka jaded tresses! However, I loved this!I just don’t agree with not clarifying/cleansing the hair and scalp fully, or doing the hair everyday. I don’t mind my production, because I love the me time, but to each it’s own! Get it Zoey lol
Thanks so much for sharing this technique. I tried it today and it's the BEST wash and go routine I've ever done. I was contemplating getting a texturizer, but this routine definitely changed my mind. This was truly a life changer for me! Thanks Ebony and Anthony!!!!!
Toya.. well done on your collab. You are going to blow on this. Your personality, charisma and agreeability is just amazing. Have been watching you since your acting days. Well done. BTW I've always been a wash and go head. The most frequent washes I've done has been every other day to two days. It was a game changer for my hair. I never looked back.
Thank you so much for your sweet comment 🥰❤️ Also for sharing! I’m still new to wash and gos, so helpful comments about experience are always welcomed! ❤️❤️
Low manipulation is key to length retention especially with type 4 hair. Doing something like this often will lead to burnout/exhaustion and cause people to rush through their hair. Also, having wet hair for extended periods gave me moisture overload and breakage.
Well the reason low manipulation works on our hair is because high manipulation makes the hair dry and break off. If your moisturizing the hair daily with water you can essentially manipulate it as much as you want
@@kennelli8251 not even. Even when ur hair is moisturized the end can still break off from manipulation. The bonds in your hair are weakest when wet. But do whatever works for you 😊
@@mousepumpkin7564 When I first went natural, this is the method I used without knowing it was the Anthony Dickey method and I did not really get any breakage so that’s not true for everyone. My hair is very prone to dryness and wetting it down everyday kept it hydrated and less likely to break off. My hair grew like a weed. I have a very tight coil and my hair did not take all day to dry. My hair dried the same day. I have fine hair stands, medium density. I do not have low porosity hair.
I respect his expertise as well as the motivation and determination of everyone on here who has done it and will attempt to do it. However, that will not be me 😂. Like a lot of the ladies mentioned on here, this method will not do well when it comes to my pockets nor my hair/time balance. Personally I also worry about the wear and tear (mechanical damage) over time this will cause on my hair if this needs to be done daily. But again, I bow down to you and the ladies in the comments who are committed! I will live through all of you ☺️
Newly natural (big chopped) so still trying to find out what works best for me. This has made me feel better/justified for wetting my hair daily before applying products 😩🙏🏾
My favorite part was learning why to use mousse and that I was right when I wanted to use more product. I knew it! Thank you for confirming by bring a Master Hair Stylist to train us!
I love ❤️ wash n go’s on my type 4 hair! I must say if I had to repeat those steps daily, I probably would not have lasted 10 years with my natural hair. That’s team too much...for me. But if that’s what others are used to doing, then rock on 🤘! I band my hair at night with satin scrunchies and cover my hair with a satin scarf. About day 3 into the wash n go style, I do have to lightly reapply gel to redefine my coils and there is a bit of product build up at the end of the week, but I’ve learned how to conceal the build up by applying an eyeballed ratio of soft holding gel to firm holding gel. I think it’s cool that you were able to get first hand advice from a professional while cleansing and styling your hair. Your results are gorgeous! Your hair is so healthy and beautiful! Although I’m not a daily wash and go styler, I am excited to try this product line. I can’t wait to try the expert tip of using the hair mousse after the styling gel. With products, my hair also takes a day and a half to two days to air dry, and I have medium density hair. So, I’m looking forward to using the moose to help speed up my drying time. This was such a fun, fantastic, and very informative video. Thank you so much for sharing!
I'm so trying this. Thanks for bringing Dickey to us. Since my hair has grown out I thought wash and gos were no longer attainable....but this.....game changer!
Also, try Mousse Def, by Le Doux, if you haven't already! It's amazing! And what's wrong with a voluminous wash n'go? I like my hair big and defined. Mousse Def and XTreme Wetline work best for me. Thanks for sharing this video!
Love this! I love this collab for your channel! I learned to wash n go from Dickey years ago when he did the salon series with Taren Guy. I tweaked the method, but my technique is pretty much from him. I dry my hair with a diffuser, but I use a dyson (nothing compares). I also hover diffuse. No scrunching at all. I spend 10-15 minutes drying each quadrant of my head. My roots might still be wet, but they dry through out the day. If need be, I’ll hit the roots with the concentrator nozzle. Before I had a dyson I used a table top hood dryer.
I’m gone have to use 99¢ store conditioner to keep up with the amount of conditioner needed to achieve this look. It works. It really does. But, them bottles add up too.
I definitely want to try but doing it daily is definitely hard 🤭 and the amount of product used is insane whattttt I never thought we needed that much product 😭
I tried this method two weeks ago and no lie it works, but idk how this can be done everyday walking around with sopping wet hair or sitting under dryer for an hr or 2 every day is impossible, my hair gets too tangled when it’s not stretched
@@07laille09 I tried it for 2 days after watching the video, I like it but I just don't like having wet hair every day 😭 so it definitely not going to be my lifestyle
@@07laille09 my drying time has decreased over time as my hair has become more moisturized. I realize though that we may have different densities. It would def be too much having this sopping wet hair for days.
YAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSS!!! The King himself appeared. Love this! SOAKING WET HAIR. Generous amounts of conditioner to identify the curl pattern and Generous amounts of styler to capture it. And.... VOILA! And .... we learned .... mousse is a great additive to help speed up the drying process for those of us who need it. Great, great video! Please vlog your trim with him.
This was so delightful. I was trying his method on my high porosity 4c hair and I can see a difference with the current products I use so can’t wait to try HIS.
This is the only method I use for wash and gos. I wear wash and gos or a ponytail. Twist and braid outs don't work for me but this does. I use whatever products I have on hand, I just use a lot of it.
I wet my hair DAILY. Now I don’t drench it But I wet it enough to finger through my styling product. Keeps my hair from Matting & Dreading up. This method makes sense since our people tended to live in Hot climates & Wash & Go’s would have been able to AirDry easily.
Been watching you for years, love this video. Shocked by the negativity in the comments but I guess YT be like that. Thanks for showing the Dickey method
Try downward blow-drying instead of scrunching with a diffuser. Downward blow-drying will dry your hair looking pretty much the same it looks wet. If you want to see a video of downward blowdrying, check out the founder of CurlMix drying her hair. Downward blow-drying is a game changer for type 4 hair wash n gos.
Your hair looks happy. It's so beautiful. I do think that wash and go's depends on a person's style and demands because he made it sound so easy and I'm glad the steps are simple but I still don't have time for that.
I am 2c/3a why am I watching this?😂 I know why, ever since I have been passionate about my hair and knowing curly girl method, transformed my hair, I lost my hair in chemo 2012 and than postpartum severe hair loss 2019 January but also during my pregnancy in 2018. And of course with curly girl method comes natural hair/ unprocessed. Even tho I think it doesn’t go with us since we don’t relax usually only dye and color, but you know... I’m middle eastern in germany married to German my mixed daughter has 3b tight curls silky fine. I have courser even tho I’m a looser texture and more thick. I appreciate this method that came after empowering you black women. And I’m all for women empowerment but specially one that need it the most and take the hardest time either racially stereotyping or whatnot. Imma keep watching beautiful black women with Afros to learn about you more so I can let my black friends into some gems! They’re mostly relaxed unfortunately but after quarantine and me inspiring them they wanna go natural! 💜
Loved Part 1 & 2! Such a fun educational video...Changed my perspective of how I think about hair, using products and techniques. Anthony truly loves what he does!!!
This was soooooooo very cool!!! So, I know I mentioned before in one of your wash n go videos Anthony Dickey method was the key success to my wash n go’s(idk if you ever checked out my style and shake playlist😉). When I first discovered him(2018/19), I would shampoo Sunday then cowash Tues/Wed and Fri/Sat. The amount of product, soaking wet hair and the shake.......BABY! Along my journey I have that with the right products I can get a solid 7 days with a wash n go and still the following week a full wash day with a wash n go (minus drying )2 hrs but my hair isn’t really long or dense but still. His method was the to the kingdom for me lol I loved this video and Loved that y’all did this together. Your hair was Everything!💚
I love it and want to try it but my products r too expensive to go through them that quickly! I am considering giving it a try, I do my wash and go every 5-7 days.
Exactly 5-7 days is good. To do it every day is way too time consuming and my hair takes forever to air dry, in addition to using a hooded dryer every day for it to dry is too much heat daily. I'll stick to 5 days my definition still holds up by day 5 just might be a little dry
This is extremely insightful! Good information to take and tweak to your lifestyle! I think it'll be good for those who are just starting out and would like to train their curls.
I couldn't do this everyday. I learned the hard way that wetting your hair literally every single day (especially with low porosity hair) is just asking for hygral fatigue/moisture overload, since your hair never gets to fully dry.
Interesting. I’ve wet my hair daily without adding all of the products - just a moisturizer and oil - and had no problems. My hair loved it! But this wash n go definitely needs some kind of blowdryer or something. My hair was SOPPING wet.
This seems perfect for someone like me who has high porosity hair. My hair sucks up moisture like it’s nothing. Even after all that water my hair would be almost dry after like a half hour.
I’m confused!! I have low porosity hair without a doubt! But it doesn’t take me a day for it to dry like many others like yourself say. After soaking it in a hot shower, it dries within an hour or two (I blot it then let it air dry)
I don't know how I found this video but so glad I did. I had no idea who this guy was until this (take your jaw off the floor :). But I am so inspired to give this a try. My take away is that in the beginning, you definitely want to use his method of doing this every day (so really choose wisely when to start) but as you go, hair texture will change and you can put a day or two between washes depending on your schedule. I will need to get use the amount of conditioner needed because, WHOA!
Would love to see a daily wash n go video! Was so intrigued by this. Was glued to the screen like 👀 haha. But yes, like you said , seems so time consuming for a daily routine!! would love to see how doing this daily would work
