Floor Jansen is a truly marvelous singer, able to bring out such emotions out of every song. Nightwish needed a singer like Floor! And Tuomas is really an awesome writer/composer. Fact: Tuomas told in interviews that the whole band cried during the recording of this song.

If any music alone can make you cry, it most surely is Nightwish. Tuomas's melodies and his lyrics and the voice of Floor... So powerful stuff! It really goes deep into your soul. I cannot either listen to this song without crying every time, because this part... _Mother... I am always close to you..._ makes me remember to my mom who suddenly passed away just too young of age about ten years ago. And they have this song, Eva, from the Dark Passion Play album what gets me too every time, not to mention the Poet and the Pendulum.

She has such a beautiful voice, it really brings out the message in an amazing way. What a tribute to their parents! 😭😥

Well, epic Nightwish songs left or right, this ballad is my absolute Nightwish favorite. Everyone having dear memories to their parents, living or passed away, should listen to this song, absorb its emotional lyrics and enjoy the touching performance of the band. It will grip you by the throat and you probably won't keep it dry. It happens to me every time I listen to it. Let's be grateful that it exists because it surely cleanses your soul and keeps the memories to your dear ones alive. The best tribute to parents I've ever listened to. Indeed, according to their own statements Nightwish will most likely never perform this song live. It is very personal to each and every band member and they even had problems rehearsing and recording it because everybody got very emotional. I was there crying with you bro, reliving good old memories and being grateful for the loved ones I still have around me.

My stepmother raised me, beginning at age 7. I didn't always get along with her, and there were mistakes she made with me when I was young. She could be so cold, almost cruel. However, those mistakes were made purely out of naivete, a total lack of experience or understanding of what I was going through at the time. I was still so young, and hurting terribly. She was so young, too, and had been raised in a strict, sheltered, rather loveless home. I could dwell on the negative, but that would be a huge dishonor to the woman I call Mom. See, she raised me. She raised me. My biological mother didn't want me; to her, I was just a pawn in a chess game against my father. But my stepmother earned the title, "Mom." She was there for me when I was sick. She went to the parent teacher conferences. She helped me with my homework. She came to my soccer games. She taught me to sew. She fed me. She cleaned my clothes. She cheered for me. She tried her best to comfort me when I was sad. She wasn't a perfect mother, but she tried the best she could. I am forever grateful to her. She raised me, and for that, I love her.

I watched this reaction the other day, but didn't comment. The 22nd is my late father's bday, and the 30th is my late mother's bday. This song always gets me in the guts so hard, especially knowing that Floor struggled to sing this song without crying, that's why there is not a live version of it.

Something great about Nightwish is that you get the Endless forms most beautiful album and you are sometimes hit by the strong riffs and loud vocals in Yours is an empty hope and then you listen to this and it's like you fell the warmth of Floor singing that, your emotions flow and your feelings are touched. This song is beautiful because of what it says, simple and direct. Great reaction.

I hear you man ... this music gets to me too. I lost my father also to cancer, 26 years ago already, but I still think of him every day. I'm 53 years old now, have three wonderful kids of my own, but I guess a part of me will always be a boy that misses his father. Many times I went with my father on Sunday mornings to churches, where he played the organ. I guess that's why this symponic music hits me so hard. I'm so sorry for your loss... AndI actually feel most of your words on this topic + Nightwish (except your personal experiences of course). My father, too, passed away because cancer destroyed his body. That was when I was 8, and 2019 marks 20 years from then. I also rarely cried. Back then, I got the message he had passed away from my grandparents (Dad's parents) who were on the phone with Mum who had stayed by his side in the hospital. Seeing them so incredibly heartbroken and crying hurt me almost as much as the message itself, and caused me to think "Alright, everyone's in so much pain, I wanna be strong for them...". Sounds crazy even to myself, considering how young I was, and I can't tell why I thought like that. Anyway, it somehow worked and my own tears were dried very shortly after - and would never continue... UNTIL THE DAY I FIRST LISTENED TO THAT SONG. Like it did the exact same to me it did for you: All the memories came back and so especially did the painful emotions I had buried long ago... I've listened to the song a lot by now, and I ALWAYS end up crying. But as this is said to be healthy, I'm grateful to Nightwish's song in a way. Sorry for all those details, all I wanna tell you with those is "Stay strong. You are not alone."

The same reaction here. This song brings up so much. I look back on my parents, both of whom I've lost, and feelings just well up. I read someone comment that's why they haven't played this in concert. Sort of the same reason they haven't done Poet & the Pendulum in a while. Just too hard on the feels. Marco's recently released solo song "Isäni Ääni" ("Voice of My Father" in Finnish) is also a great song you might want to check out.

Wow, this is a double event! For one, a reaction to a NIGHTWISH song that is among the least viewed by reaction channels. For reasons I can only guess, some people made this one a point of "what is wrong with new NIGHTWISH" (not enough metal perhaps?), and that part of the fan base evidently did not bother with the lyrics. Otherwise, they would see the song in a different light. I always say how integral lyrics are for NIGHTWISH's songs, it makes one "get" them on a whole different level! Second, huge respect, man, for the open and sincere reaction - after all, are reactions as such not truly about that?? The unsuspecting listeners being taken where the music and the lyrics, working in unity, can take us... Most of us here can relate to what you tell, and not least - Tuomas himself who has admitted how much of an influence and inspiration - and strength in rough times - his parents have been to him. So he is wearing his heart on the sleeve in this one, making "Our Decades in the Sun" one of their most moving songs (coincidentally, the "The Poet and the Pendulum" has similar deep effect not least due to its closing part, which is "Mother and Father"). Again, my hat off, we need more of this on the Net! Not the tissues, of course :) but the genuine, direct connection to whatever is going on. Great!

Where Nightwish has its roots in everyday life, that what you can comprehend with your senses, American music in essence is faith based. I suppose that is the reason for the difference between Europe and America. Reality, like evolved understanding of the natural world, the life and death of stars, and all that surrounds us, claims nothing from us, it is the inherent morality in all of us. Leave an animal alone and he will thrive until it is used as a food source for others. Native Americans had that same understanding. Maybe you should listen to the greatest show again and understand the context, belief isn't paramount, it is e everyday life.
