A couple things to note based on the comments I'm getting: 1. The Mantis ship, the Razorleaf, is an excellent ship for sure. But in terms of stats, the Star Eagle blows it out of the water in almost every category. If you want the Razorleaf to keep up with the Star Eagle then you're going to need to level up your Starship design skill and start making some pricey modifications to it. 2. This ship can be acquired in about 8-10 hours of gameplay by completing the Rangers faction questline in your quest menu under the faction tab. That is VERY early game for Starfield, you won't even be scratching the surface of tier 2 perks by then.
@Zoten001 you get one from the ranger quest line and it's even better then mantis. I just unlocked it tonight and it's great. I think I'll be using that for a long time
The Razorleaf is technically a worse ship but it has this really cool thing were if you encounter spacers they will jump away scared at the sheer fact that you are in the mantis' ship (and yes this works even after messing with the ship to the point of making it unrecognizable)
You can change the color of each piece of your ship in the "build ship" section. Just talk to the people that offer to repair your ship for 1k, they have the option to build your ship. Once in there, click on a piece of the ship and press J, select the colors you want, and boom...your ship looks even better.
Thanks for the info I was actually trying to build one but didn’t know wtf I was doing haha. There should be a way for the whole starfield community to share ships for certain missions or challenges
At what level did you get this ship? I'm trying to finish the second to last quest in the chain but the space battle prior to landing on mech City is proving to be too difficult using even mantis ship. I'm lvl 14 and the enemy ships are 12, 14, 16 and 20.
@@kellyburris287 what I found worked for me was running 3 flare-p 15mw ir pulse lasers, 2 pbo-30 auto electron beams, 2 atlatl 270a missile launchers, deflector sg-30 shield generator, and r-1000 grav drive. For the fight I used 1 grav, 1 engine, rest full shield and rest into weapons. I fired both lasers and particle beams until shields were down then blasted with missiles. They key was when I was down to the last enemy in wave 1 I just kept hitting them 1 time to keep their systems from recovering long enough for my ship/shield to get to 100%. Then I went in with full weapons and shield, killed smaller one first then killed lvl 20. This strategy and upgrades made the fight easy. I spent about 19k which you will make back up real quick and easy. The ship is worth it. Now I upgraded it and it's very nice.
you can find a landed varuun ship on gagarin at an interest point pretty easy to get right off and is a massive upgrade. just sneak on without being spotted and take it over. its actually the varuun ship you docked with.
Hi. I only have two landings on Gagarin, a civilian settlement and Gagarin Landing proper. Am I missing another one potentially tied to a mission perhaps? Or do I just need to check all points of interest on these two maps? I'm very curious about this particular ship.

Im gonna be doing a bounty hunter character as my first playthrough so this ship seems perfect for me! I love that this ship has a brig lol thats gonna be great for roleplaying!
I did all the ranger faction missions. The only things i got was spacesuit, helmet, boost pack, weapons and a badge. I didn't get this ship. Is there anything I'm missing?
same, did the main then the side quest and notting even reloaded the save but still noting after searching around started to notice that this seems to be a problem that a few people are having
Love this ship, got it after I got the Razorback and have not looked back. Really like the 2.6K cargo hold without adding any modifications to the ship.
what did you add to your ship to get reactor 29 instead of 18 and 7 crew instead of 5, and jump 18 LY instead of 16 LY and shield 1064 instead of 760 and mass 1152 instead of 1071 and wich weapons did you added🤔🤔🤔🙂?
Thanks. Was kinda lost for direction, I dislike doing main quests in bethesda games. So this was a welcome find. Not only do I get some quests to do, but a sweet ship and a sexy gun. I'm always down for some space cowgirl stuff.
True Vanguard hi i just got the star eagle ship today but for some reason it isent showing the stats that is visible at 0:05 in the video for the gravdrive,shield,engine, las,msl and em🤔🤔🤔? why dont i get the same high stats on each of them like you have it🤔🤔🤔? cause when i went in to cockpit it showed exactly the same as i had on frontier wich is like 3 or 4 lines on each ship system🤔🤔🤔
So when you bored an enemy ship and take what you can. When you already have the star eagle what do you do with that ship? Can you sell it off or have multiple ships to use?
Ranger quest stoped for me after finishing “where hope is built”. Next quest on neon with jaylen price doesnt spawn/start. Did all possible steps, even loaded an earlier save with “talk to nia kalu and ron hope”. Any ideas? Really want the star eagle…
Is ship combat easier with mouse and keyboard, every time I get into a ship battle they always stay behind me and I can never get them in my view to fire
I know you said it can be done around 10 hours of gameplay, but what level is that? My 10 hours progress will not be = to your 10 hours. I have over 20 hours played and I'm only lvl 13 i think. I have the Mantis and it's serving me well for now.
I'm currently using the Razor leaf ship and it doesn't have the best shield system as I found out (spoiler warning) when trying to fight the entire UC fleet during the last Crimson Fleet mission. I got my ass handed to me and went to Akila City to join the Freestar Collective just so I can get this ship at the end. Great video man.
This quest line glitched out on me when im supposed to follow the dude through Neon. Unfortunately i just went and did other stuff and its not worth going back to an old save. And he ends up on top of random buildings when i go to check on it occasionally. Really like the quest line and faction so not sure what to do with it.
Yeah optimization should be their top priority because right now, my RTX 3070 Ti gets like 47 FPS or below on certain areas. I expected with an RTX 3070 Ti, that I would get ATLEAST 70-80+ FPS on High or Ultra.
Just acquired Star Eagle and it is indeed far superior to Mantis. It only holds five crew however. Not the advertised seven. (Not even close to a deal breaker of course.) I finished this quest line at 14 with the Mantis and LOTS of persuasion skill 😅
yea, i pulled out the belly ones, that serve absolutely no purpose other than cosmetic. put in a science and w/e the other one is called and boom now its a floating base haha @@Zetheek
Careful doing too many quests at once, some seem to overlap the ranger quest and cause the npc you are following to stop and wait until you complete other quests.
Only thing Im kinda let down about in this game is how the mobs scale, only somewhat difficult thing is space combat at a lower level, whereas at level 10 I was killing level 35/38 enemies with no problem
You should really utilize your alternate flight controls (thrusters) in conjuction with regular controls while in space battles. It’ll tighten your turn radius
In this game is absolutely is early game. 6 hours of faction quests is nothing compared to the nearly 80 hrs total I have into the game, and I'm just barely scratching the surface and just reaching bottom tier perks on the trees.
Wasn't too happy to find it didn't have any work benches, so I got rid of the brig to add them. Hopefully the brig couldnt actually be used cause otherwise I'll be really sad lol
make a safe before loading in to the level. Set the settings at very hard before you loaded the level. You will have more legendary drops now. Before fighting put it at very easy and you still have the better drops.
I took razorleaf and made it 3 times larger with way more guns It isn’t the fastest but dear god does it deal some damage I’m talking I can run full bars on one weapon and half bars on another or just knock the shield and then swap to missiles and guns
