In this video we learn about the IT band, another important fascia that most people in modern civilization are not getting the benefit of because they're making subconscious movements that slacken it. When fascia is limp, it cannot be relied on to do its job. Having a rational understanding of how the parts of your body work is essential to overcoming bad posture. So get to know your fascia: it's waiting there to provide you with support. Initial Alexander Technique lessons are conducted one-on-one with a teacher over Zoom. They are designed to cultivate your ability to apply your rational mind to how you move. For more information about lessons you can visit my website or go straight to the creator of iAT, Jeando Masoero. My website: mechanicsofpoise.com/ Masoero's website: www.initial-alexandertechnique.org You can contact Masoero to set up lessons at: jeandomasoero.iat@gmail.com You can contact me at: DelsarteAlexanderMasoeroYou@protonmail.com "The pebble virtually contains the spark, but we must know how to produce it. Thus the phenomena of nature contain luminous lessons, but we must know how to make them speak; and, what is more, understand their language." François Delsarte

Great video!! Question: Would you recommend regular massages while undergoing this technique?

I wouldn’t say I recommend massages, but I think they could help if used in conjunction with a system aimed at consciously guiding your movements. The benefit I see in massages is that they can wake up some of the neglected structures in the body. However, if you just go back into your old habits after the massage, you will be right back where you started very quickly. F.M. Alexander and Jeando Masoero would both probably say massages are largely irrelevant because they don’t improve your ability to consciously coordinate the parts of your body, so they do nothing to eradicate the causes of bad posture. It’s hard to know what exactly Delsarte would say, but he is said to have used “decomposing exercises” where one frees up their body by shaking, swinging, and otherwise moving (in specific ways) the parts of the body from the fingers, to the hand, to the entire arm, and even down to the eyelids. I think there is something to the idea that by clearing out the built up nervous energy in our bodies we can more easily consciously direct the parts of our body, especially the parts we have neglected in the past. But massages or other similar interventions don’t fix the causes of bad posture, so if they’re not backed up with a reasoned system, the benefits will be short lived, even as short as the time it takes to walk a few steps.

would you say that the rotation of the pelvis forward is making people lean forward aswell

Absolutely. Most people are always leaning forward with their lower to mid-torso, and leaning back with their upper torso and head to compensate.
