I have selfish motivations for being glad Caitlin didn't make the team... I don't have to figure out how to watch women's basket ball now at the Olympics!
Growing the game is winning the game. WNBA has been around for almost 30 years and never made a profit. Winning 7 gold medals hasn’t moved the needle. Growing the game means more expansion teams which means more jobs for women to play, more money in their pockets, more advertising opportunities, sneaker deals.
@@stephenchisadza4975 viewership growing was a natural trend BUT Caitlin Clark blew the interest and viewership through the roof. It's a totally different ballgame now with her. If you listen, people around the world are watching CC and nobody else.
Ok let's be honest the Olympics has nothing to do with the wnba. Just like all other sports in the Olympics. It's teams built on winning gold. Swimming, track, gymnastics, soccer, baseball etc. It's about winning the gold medal for the country.
Like we will even bother to discuss women's basketball without Clark. Seriously, how many players on the team USA can you name? Without her, no one cares, period.
4 years to train for the Olympic Games and you want a seat for a rookie who can’t earn her place on merit. It is not the Olympic team’s job to help the WNBA grow the sport. The WNBA can do that by marketing Kamila in Brazil for example. Americans are too arrogant and small minded sometimes. Female basketball doesn’t exist solely because of Caitlin 🤷🏾♂️
Well, you go away since Clark is your reason to discuss she is not top 15 Angel Reese is better than her, this reminds me of Christian Leatner Shaq was left off that team cause of that.
I really don’t understand Americans and the hype around Caitlin. This girl ain’t shyt! I was expecting an immediate Lebron or wemby effect. She clearly can’t cope with the physicality 🤣
@@braziliantvhd2768 and they still lost to Oregon Ducks… so what’s your point? The fact they won 7 medals and still lost to Oregon Ducks, a female college basketball team,… what does that say about team USA? LOL
@@CHUCKBORRISNORRISit’s surprising basically a WNBA All Star team lost to YOUNG college women. Maybe that is a sign that players in there deep thirties and early forties is problematic. Team USA 🇺🇸 should bring some young blood 🩸 in the mix. No twenty six year old players is BS.
Antics-she schooled Clark in you know it-not once or twice but three times. Clark can’t hold her at all. If she can’t hold Carrington and Carrington didn’t make the Olympics well neither should Clark
There is not a big following for US Women's basketball. No one wants to even cover them in the media when they play. Let's stop pretending that people cared.
Here’s what EVERYONE is missing. The Olympic women’s committee left Clark off for 2 reasons: 1 fans would be upset if she didn’t start. 2. They felt she would be a distraction. That fact ends all the fluff arguments to whether it was her skill or not. It’s resentment based discrimination.
That’s stupid the women’s game needs to grow to keep the WNBA going that’s their biggest obstacle right now, bruh they played Japan for the Gold. This is why the WNBA will forever be stagnant and they have a great opportunity right now but of course their blowing it
Y’all been complaining for 28 years and it’s a damn shame mainstream media not put in the main thing the main thing growing the woman game by any means necessary long enough 28 years it damn shame
@@KennyakaTI Caitlin Clark is the only reason I’ve ever turned on a WNBA game and watched highlights lmao. Outside of CC for the hype, women’s basketball is not for me
Mcnutt is not giving a direct answer everytime. I am okay with it? Really? The question was, was it the right decision not to put clark in team USA? and you answer I'm okay with it then explains herself 🤣
If the Dream Team could snub Isiah Thomas for Christian Laettner, then the WNBA could’ve definitely brought in Caitlin Clark, instead of a 41 year old vetera with 6 gold medals! 🏀😆
why does every ex woman basketball player not have a problem with CC being on the team? it’s like they want the salaries to stay where they are and to continue to be the side show of the basketball world. What the hell happened with women’s basketball in 1996 and who cares. it’s 2024!
I can't wait till she gets tired of all this hate (from coaches to players) and walks away from that HUGH $75k contract - 3 vs 3 league looks pretty good right now.
why build a team for diana, her time is over due and its time to give way for the future. if they are concern about caitlyn might not be given more playing time, well do something about it, like at the end of the 1st haft leading by 30 or more.
😅😅😅😅The fact that neither Taurusi, Bird, Stewart, Swoopes, Staley, Leslie, Parker, Griner, Catchings, etc...did not impressed the public about women's basketball unlike Caitlin Clark has done due to making Logo 3s consistently like Steph. Taking a sub par college team of Iowa Hawkeyes for 2 NCAA final appearances is on its own worthy enough to be famous.
NBA needs to stop giving money to this bankrupt league. When the well is dry, they know the worth of the water. And all this fuss just so they don't have to say thank you.
I would absolutely understand that the players 10,11, and 12 would miss out on a dream to attend the Olympics. However, Diana Taurisi isn't as good as Clark AND she's been to multiple Olympic games. There are several women who have gone before. Those ladies shouldn't be put out for an opportunity to advertise their league.
Hindsight is 20/20 and she has 5 million reasons to opt out and go make hers ...the WNBA is a mediocre brand if no celebrity no fans no BIG $$$$$...Ice Cube's offer is HUGE NOW
@@clarktownsend8991 if it is going to increase their bottom line and bring bigger bucks to their contract's hell yes, they will do what it takes to ENTERTAIN to increase PROFIT it is Business ...WWE figured that out a long time ago and rest of sports is catching up
I think if the WNBA wanted people to care about the WNBA, they would have put her on the team so people will watch and help players make more money so they don’t have to go to Russia to play ball in the off season for extra income. Don’t complain about what you make if you don’t make the decisions to put the WNBA first instead of one player that didn’t even play all season.
You all stay pressed over Clark, aka Jerry Seinfeld. The US women's Olympic basketball team has won the gold medal for the past 20 years. They don't need Jerry. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
My takeaway; the majority of the guys (Commentators, Analysts, Athletes, Journalists) seem to understand the importance of this rare moment to capitalize on a business and marketing opportunity without jeopardizing a shot at the gold medal and the majority of the women either fail to understand or willing to sacrifice the opportunity for some idealism. It’s no wonder the WNBA was literally begging for money and views as recently as last season. Meanwhile the Dream Team capitalized on the opportunity in 1992 and NBA players make 100’s of millions.
You just talking!!!! Everyone on the Dream Team was established and proven!!! You talking about a Rook who got her heart took last night!!!! And you want me to cosign so America caN be embarrassed!!! Money ain't got nothing on bragging rights and being THE BEST!!! THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO RELY On MoNEY TO BE GREAT ARE THE KIDS WHO DIDNT MEASURE UP IN SCHOOL. EVERYBODY ELSE KNOW THAT MONEY AINT NEVER STOP A THANG!!! WINNERS WERE ALWAYS ENOUGH; PULLING IN FLIP FLOPS AND GYM SHORTS
@@tabathacrockett5591 Larry Bird was basically immobile cause his back was so bad and Magic came out of retirement from what I remember. They played cause of how much they knew it would help the game as a whole. More deserving people were not selected cause they didn't have the name recognition. Was it fair no but people now are better off because of it.
Very few people watch the women's team, anyone is delusional to think otherwise. Go get that win but the amount of people watching it automatically a lot lower than it could have been...😂😂😂😂
She should absolutely be on Team USA. They're delusional if they think they've got the best players on that roster. C'mon, a 42 yr old has-been and an often-injured player? You know who they are. Additionally, it's absolutely a dumb business decision. They need to stop whining about their low salaries if they don't care about "RATINGS" and "EYE BALLS". The WNBA was irrelevant until CC came along.
Wait. On merit. This year. On merit. Diana Taurasi is demonstrably BETTER thank Caitlin Clark? You can't have it both ways right? On merit, you can make an argument for Clark. (Taurasi is the bad back Larry Bird pick. Let's be real.). Or the other argument, you leave one spot for a young player, like a rookie Tuarasi or a rookie Stewart or a rookie Holdsclaw or a rookie Wilson. You invite the young player to bond with the old guard. And then Clark doesn't play much but signs thousands of autographs for little girls from France and around the world. Double win for the USA.
If Caitlin was playing well she would have or should have been on that team. They can note her current play and say shes not ready but if Caitlin was putting up big numbers it would have been even more of an outrage that she was left off. Them putting somebody on the team who hasnt played all year and saying its because of experience would have never happened
I'm definitely boycotting the Women's Olympics. I'm a fan from the Jordan era and this is dumb. The only reason I started watching the WNBA is to watch Catlin Clark and then I began to notice the rest of the WNBA players. Time will tell who has right.
The woman Olympics already happened. The numbers have not changed. We need to change that integrate the new face of the game magic and bird did it for Michael Jordan indicate the new face of the league.
I’m tired of the WNBA if they don’t want to make the sport global don’t talk about getting paid more money especially when they have a player that can change everything for the sport
The sport is already global, dumbass . Only in America is it not valued . These women make more money playing overseas . The Wnba is their side-job financially .
What people don't realize is that as many people she brings to the game, you're going to loose just as many people because of the fake narratives and the overly bias coverage of catlyn Clark!!!!!
@@stevecourtois3741 What about shooting percentage? Both FG and 3. I would assume hers is worst since she scores by shooting a lot vs shooting well. And I’m sure her turnover are way higher. Its difficult to lead a team to victory when the person with the ball the most shoots the worst percentages, turns the ball over the most, and is an orange cone on defense. I think she will be fine and have a fine career. But this year she hasn’t played well enough to deserve it. I thought it was a consensus that she doesn’t deserve it by play. But the consideration is for marketing purposes.
Give up the spot, Diana. Sacrifice for the good of your league. You don't need the spot. Give it to CC for the good of the game. CC will make your game amazing like Magic and Bird did
Simple 5 bullet points that merits CC's inclusion in the Olympic team 1. #11 and #12 are going to be perennial bench warmers and at worst break the glass 5 min game time players 2. 2028 Olympics is at home and all American teams will be expected to win Gold esp basketball teams.... The pressure will be higher playing at home with those expectations 3. Clark could realistically be integral part of that '28 team and could use the valuable experience from the current Olympics 4. It is traditional to include college basketball player of the year in the Olympic team which is why Laettner was part of the '92 dream team 5. Women's basketball could use more eyeballs and not just WNBA ... Here was the opportunity and the Olympic committee with no vision or foresight has just blown it...
Wow! They actually allowed some debate on get up this morning. I bet lobo was pissed non-wnba players were given the platform to give their opinions. Kudos to the show for pivoting, even though the last week has been cringe (with certain people saying fans, and pundits dont deserve to have an opinion - again lobo) 😂😂😂. Don’t let other people tell you what you can and can’t talk about
@@bacsolo3719 They should stop whining about low salaries then if they don't understand 'marketing' and 'business'. Go play on the playground if you're all about being a basketball 'purist'.
@@drgta6 It's like they've tricked the NBA to pay WNBA alimony. I will use manipulation and say things that doesn't make sense becausethey are goingby feeling, just like the women's soccer team. This is what will happen if you let females run the world. Jealously, envy, hypergamy because of fame and money. It's in their DNA, that's why divorce is initiated by women most of the time. They will keep milking the NBA because they the NBA are simps.
Definitely a missed opportunity. I get the wnba and the Olympics are complete different entities. But with ZERO years of profitability in their 27/28 years of existence, these ladies (as a collective) need to jump on any opportunity, any hype, any big thing that is currently happening. And that is CC!
Kareem tells a great story about John Wooden when Wooden was coaching at Indiana St. I wonder if Stephan A feels that Wooden should have taken the bid for marketing purposes?
I understand from a brand perspective how it helps the WNBA, but I still think it's ok to leave her off a team that she won't be starting on and may see limited bench minutes. The brand impact will be much greater the next time around as she progresses and becomes a star in the league and a clear leader of the next Olympic team. Give her some time to grow and keep developing, she can grow the WNBA brand by balling out in the league and winning some championships. The Olympic team doesn't need her and quite frankly, I don't think she's necessarily ready for it or deserves it when you compare to other players on the team.
Yes the dude with the 1.5 scoring avg and ever receding hair line knows Clark's lack of International competition isn't the reason Nneka Ogwumike has never made thd team
HUMONGOUS MISTAKE!!! From now on, no one should ever whine about WNBA players being underpaid, or not experiencing the same affluence as compared to their male NBA counter parts! You had your once in a lifetime chance to make a quantum leap growth spurt in the Women’s Basketball not just locally but globally , but you blew it because you let your emotions, politics, and ignorance get in your way. The victim here is not just Caitlin Clark but all the new and potential women’s basketball viewers locally and globally that you denied! Like the great philosopher Charles Barkley said: “STOP being so petty and jealous”. There’s no one else to blame but yourselves! Do better!
They should have put her on the team. In the World Cup they put younger players on the final roster even though they really haven't earned the spot but they give the younger player a spot based on his potential. The team knows that he isn't ready yet and wont really contribute much in the current World Cup, but the next World Cup he will be ready. Putting on the team a bit early gives him experience and he can learn from other great players around him so that in the next World Cup that player will hit the ground running. They should have done the same with Caitlin. She will be on the 2028 Olympic squad, put on the squad this year so that she can learn from the current great players and get some Olympic experience. I think the older players are jealous of her and stiff armed her like Jordan did to Isiah Thomas and threatened not to play if she is on the team
Why that smirk when Caitlin's name is being mention. That is disrespectful. You should be happy that people are now interested in watching women's basketball. Dah
In creating the roster for the 2024 Olympic USA Women’s Basketball Team: It shouldn’t be based just Marketing OR just Merit but BOTH! Especially if you want to adhere to the Mission of the US Basketball Team Mission (verbatim): “As the governing body for basketball in the United States, USA Basketball is a worldwide leader in the sport through competitive excellence in international competition and by PROMOTING, GROWING and ELEVATING the game at all levels while ensuring that athletes and other participants compete and develop in a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment.”
I think you missed the fact that they released why they left her of the team and the reason is so petty. “I have two sources, impeccable sources, who said that they had heard from various people that a concern was that if Caitlin was put on the team but only got a few minutes of playing time, which would be logical for a rookie on a great team that last lost in 1992 - the best, most dominant team in sports - that all of her fans would be upset and would be, I guess, just storming the gates and on radio shows and on social media,” she told World Sport’s Don Riddell. -Matias Grez, CNN
Aint nobody watching Team USA. This decision may actually lead to similar backlash to what the Women's soccer team saw in the World Cup where fans turned on them and cheered their loss. SAS is correct, this decision was stupid. Additionally, McNutt might be one of the dumbest people on TV. Goofy.
On this topic Stephan as is the stupid, idiotic one. The USA Team was basically built two years ago.Caitlin is definitely a young star, but the cement was already cast. She can become famous and get the invite next time God Quit trying to rule the sports world Stephan A!!
