CC is the reason I watch women's basketball. Period. Now, I look at other women's sports as well. Caitlin Clark has opened millions of new fans to women's sports.
The sad thing is, I don't think they care. They would rather play in front of 12 people while making a political point, than selling out arenas and growing the game.
The bottom line here is marketability and exposure; not only to the USA but to the whole world. To be honest, the USA can win without Taurasi, Griner and Gray (who is seriously injured right now). The team got a great core already.
Chelsea Grey has played zero games this year. Britney Griner has played 1 and arguably shouldn’t be let out of the country again bearing in mind last time. Diana Taurasi is 41 and has worse stats this year that Caitlin….. this decision stinks.
Pierce nailed it. Makes absolutely no sense to leave the face of women's basketball off the team. Worse yet, it reeks of jealousy and racism. Even if Clark plays only five minutes of garbage time each game, it's a WIN FOR EVERYONE from television to the sport to the league to teammates to the player. Even rookie Christian Laettner was picked for the men's team back in the day.
I'm sorry...it's not favoritism if Caitlin Clark is chosen...I mean...she's the ALL-TIME leading scorer in the NCAA PERIOD...men and women...that's no fluke. Her stats are not all that bad compared to other guards in the WNBA right now or compared to the ones who were chosen.
There are people on the team who are old and injured. Two of them have played almost very little in the last year due to injuries. You train the future foundation of TEAM USA over time by seasoning. The team needs new blood to stay on top. They also need money. No one watches the current dynasty. Caitlin even if she has limited paying time brings people to fill the seats. She has earned the right as the #1 pick. In the past the #1 pick is on the team. You have have a history of young people on the team which build the foundation of future teams.
I agree with Paul…CC in the Olympics accelerates growth and that’s why it’s bigger than basketball. They should have some business minds at the table and at minimum, a discussion with NBC for visionary and global discussion and input!
Lol.... No she's not... She is the most popular, but not one of the top players. Not yet. She's had 3 or 4 good games, the rest of the games she has been very inconsistent and turnover prone. I like her, but she is not having the best season.

These other reporters who are disagreeing think it will go against their blackness if they support Caitlin. The WNBA would win another gold regardless if Caitlin is on the team but it would be a great chance to elevate their league and these fools dont want to admit it. it's simple these WNBA coaches and players won't play with Clark is why they didn't select Clark. How could the WNBA get promoted if they don't have a team to play with Clark? It's a done deal.

If you don't have the money there is no sport period end of story. If any country should know this it would be a capitalist country.
