hello from Ohio..we had sod laid last fall now this spring some is very tall and some is kind of short but still mostly green, my question is should we thatch and then over seed now or wait till fall?

Where I live it was literally 85 degrees two days ago with soil temps around 55 and now it is 30 degrees and snowing. Should I have put down pre emergent while it was warm or is it fine to wait until we get consistently warm weather? Better to put down post emergent at this point? Both?

Some might pop thru, majority won’t. You should be fine. Good to get it down before the next warm up, things will start up here soon.

I recommend fertilizer in the spring, but not in a full application - Unless your results from a soil test recommended otherwise.

I'm a noob to lawn care but I'm keeping it within my understanding of things. I plan on over seeding in the fall. Is it a waste of money to do it again in next spring? Or should I just work on whatever establishes? Because my lawn is mostly weeds and I want to push them out without doing a lawn renovation because I don't have the time to kill everything and start from nothing

I got wild violets in my yard. I think I have taken care of the crabgrass and plan to put down a pre-emergent. However, I don't think it will take care of the violets. Do you have any tips for that?

No, a pre-M wouldn’t target those. If you want those out (some do, some don’t mind them), you’ll target with a post-emergent

Question from a beginner (1st year doing my own lawn). My lawn could really use some seeding. I was thinking of seeding and using the Scotts triple action for seeding as you recommended. However, I believe the bag states that it only prevents weeds for a month (or less). What is your suggestion after that month? I plan on seeding and laying down some peat moss on the big spots that are pretty bare. I can't find anything online as to how many times i can put down the scotts triple action for seeding. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. Idk if it matters but i'm in Illinois so i have tall fescue cool season grass.

You could lay that down as a split application if you choose to. One at the time of seed and later on. Just be extra sensitive on the fertilizer that’s inside of it. I tend to lean towards a liquid (tenacity) for that reason.

Mesotrione is good, but unfortunately it does not attack all weed types. Which will leave behind the weeds that are unaffected by mesotrione unless some other product(s) will be used to target weeds that are unaffected.
